Command & Conquer: Red Alert Review

Do you want fast-paced action that will run on almost any computer?

Ups: Since the game is so old, it is selling for very low prices (average of 15 bucks). Fast-paced action. Will run on almost any computer. Great graphical explosions.
Downs: Some of the soldiers you can't see because they are so small.

Graphics- 8 out of 10- You can't see some of the soldiers very well because of their small size. But the rest of the graphics look awesome. All the explosions are realistic looking. Some of them even shake the screen, a very impressive effect.

Sound- 8.5 out of 10- The music in this game is plain. There is nothing catchy about it. But the sound in this game is just as good as its graphics. The explosions sound great. All the gunfire also sounds real.

Replay Value- 9 out of 10- Most of the missions in this game are very replayable. There are many missions for both sides of the action also. After you are done playing on one side, you can always play it again on the other side.

Overall- 9 out of 10- This game is a hit all the way. With movie clips before almost every mission, fantastic explosions, and cheap price, this game is a winner.

2. General Gameplay Tips

1. Always try to strike your enemies first, the element of surprise is important to winning any kind of game.
2. Be persistent, if you don't succeed the first time in defeating an enemy, try again. If you do this, you will eventually wear down your enemies.
3. Always assign your units to groups when you are attacking; it makes things a lot easier. (After you have your units selected, hit Ctrl & any number, 1-9).
4. Use more than one technique to attack your enemies. For example, don't use just ground forces to attack (tanks and infantry). If you do this, the enemies will catch on, and you will lose the element of surprise. Use a variety of techniques (air, ground, and water attack forces).
5. Always make sure to keep your base (especially your construction yard, any power plants, and ore trucks) protected by either units or defenses (tesla coils/gun turrets, etc.).

3. Soviet Playing Tips/Strategies

General Tips
1. Never under estimate the power of the tesla coil; only 3 around your base will make quick work of nearly any enemy. But this will take a lot of power.
2. If you're going to use tesla tanks, make sure to protect them with a fair amount of heavy tanks because the tesla tanks are very weak and expensive.
3. Take advantage of the Soviet's ability to use heavy/mammoth/telsa tanks; they are very powerful, and if used properly can really hurt the Allies.
4. I suggest you make many ore trucks to support the Soviet's big credit items like tesla tanks, mammoth tanks, heavy tanks, and tesla coils.
5. Be wary of the Allies Gap Generators; if you see one, make sure to quickly destroy it. If you don't, most of the time, you won't be able to see their base. This is really bad if you're trying to plan attacks against them.

Strategies
1. Try to take out any Allied Technology Centers as quickly as possible; to either prevent a launch of a GPS Satellite, or to take out an existing GPS Satellite.
2. A great type of tank rush against the Allies is the heavy tank/tesla tank rush. Make 2 heavy tanks for every 1 tesla tank. This might take a lot of money, but it is devastating in numbers.
3. Try to take out the any Allied Construction Yards as soon as possible. This is easiest to do with many heavy tanks or the before mentioned heavy tank/tesla tank rush.
4. Try to keep the Allies only using one or two forms of attacking of the three (air, ground, water). If you do this, it will make it a lot easier to defend your base. You can do this by destroying the buildings that these types of units are produced in, (war factory, airfield, etc.).
5. Take advantage of the raw Soviet power by hitting the Allies with many heavy/mammoth/tesla tanks because you will need it. I say this because the Allies have Field Medics and Mechanics to repair/heal all of their units quickly during battle.

4. Skirmish Strategies

This is a step-by-step guide to playing as the Soviet's in Skirmish mode against the computer!

This strategy works better with the following Skirmish settings. (Note - During all the construction of buildings, be pumping out offensive units so you will be ready for any attacks.)

Difficulty Level - Easy
Crates - Off
Shroud Regrows - Off
Bases - On
Ore Regenerates - On
AI players - 3
Credits - 10,000
Side - Russia
Unit Count - 0
Tech Level - 10

1. Open Construction Yard in a clearing.
2. Build a Power Plant.
3. Build an Ore Refinery.
4. Build a Radar Dome.
5. *Optional* Build either a War Factory or an Advanced Power Plant (you can build either one first).
6. Produce 5 Heavy Tanks, then 1 ore truck.
7. Build a Barracks.
8. Build 3 or 4 Flame Towers. (One for each side of your base, you don't need one for a natural barrier side like a map edge.)
9. Build an Advanced Power Plant.
10. Build a Tesla Coil near the middle of your base, or near any Power Plants or Construction Yards.
11. Build 3 or 4 ore silos, or as many as needed, but at least 3 or 4.
12. Build a Service Depot.
13. Build an Airfield. (So you will have spy planes to uncover enemies.)
14. *Optional* Build one SAM Site next to any Power Plants or Construction Yards
14. Now you are ready to pump out tanks and other forms of offensive attacks.
15. From here, you are on your own, but you should do fine.
