The History of Garthor El’Vonitor
Hello. I am Garthor El’Vonitor. I feel it is useful to let those around me know a little bit about me. I was born in Mithas and am approximately 23 years old by human standards. As is customary for my race I began training and competing in contests run by the Great Circus at a young age. I showed much promise and was expected to win the competitions. My parents took me often to see the contests between the strongest adults and I watched fascinated. I dreamed of one day fighting in these myself. When I came of age, I joined the others in a competition that lasted two weeks. I came first in most of the events I competed in. I would be eligible to join the Great Circus.
That is the point disaster struck. I had always loved to go on picnics in the mountains outside of Mithas and to celebrate my parents arranged such a trip. We left early in the morning in hopes of being able to do some hunting of game while we were there. The day was enjoyable until about noon. At that point, we met a large party of Ogres on a hunting expedition of their own. My parents and I fought bravely and managed to kill half of their number. My parents were suddenly struck down and as I watched their lifeblood flow out of them, I went into a rage bellowing in anger. I went to claw the eyes of the ogre nearest me and was struck from behind and knocked senseless. I expected never to wake but when I did I was bound in chains and locked in a cage.
I was kept in the cage for what must have been months. One day a group of human warriors came upon the group of ogres. They had long mustaches and their armor was of good quality and gleaming brightly. Later I found out it was a group of Knights of Solamnia. They had been searching for this group of ogres as they had numerously raided human settlements in the area. The knights vanquished the ogres and freed me. I was in no shape to survive on my own as the wounds I’d suffered in the fight had never healed and I was not given much food or water. The knights took me with them, taught me the ways of Kiri-Jolith, and helped me to heal. Once I had healed, I was loath to leave them. They kept me with them for about 2 years and enhanced my training with the sword and other weapons. After that point I felt it was necessary for me to leave and live on my own. I have traveled to many places but have decided to call Kalaman my home for now.
