Chrono Trigger Walk-through Part One
This walkthrough is owned by Eez
I have done lots of researching on the game, etc., and the parties I suggest are the ones I beat it fastest with. No fancy colors here, it's easier.(I'm going to point out this: If you give Lucca all your tabs, they'll pay off and she will eventually be VERY VERY good.) Also, I found the FTTP link's problem. It's fixed now.

- After naming Lucca, talk to Crono's mom and get the 200 G in allowance.
- Go to the Mayor's Manor. Get the stuff from the two treasure boxes.
- Go to the fair. Have Marle join you. Be sure to talk to her before you grab her pendant.
- Go to Guardia Forest. It's a good place to build up exp. and Gold.
- Go back to the fair. Take the cat on the upper-left part of the square to it's owner on the upper-right. Don't steal the old guy's lunch. Then talk to the girl sitting on the fountain in the main part of the square to remove the guards blocking Lucca's exhibit.
- Let Marle buy her candy, and don't walk away.
- Go to Lucca's exhibit. Ride the telepod once or twice yourself, then talk to Marle. After she's gone, get the pendant.
- Fight the imps in Truce Canyon to gain experience and gold.
- Proceed to Guardia Castle through the forest. When you see a bush rustle, approach it and press A. One of them will drop a Shelter.
- The queen will stop the guards from bothering you. Talk to the king, and rest in the knight's quarters. Then, go to the King's side(on the left of his throne up the stairs)and look for chests on the way up. Keep going upstairs and find his bedroom. Get the Bronzemail from the chest. Then proceed to the Queen's side. Get the Tonic from the chest on the way up. Talk to the queen. After the "queen" disappears, take what's in the chest.
- Upon going downstairs, Lucca will run up and reveal some surprising news. After that, she'll join you.
- After going back through the forest, go to the Market. If you can, buy the dart gun for Lucca. Buy about ten Tonics, and at least one Revive(you'll find another later)
- If you haven't already, go to the inn and talk to some of the people to find information.
- Proceed to the cathedral and talk to all the women. After you talk to the one in front of the organ, a sparkle will appear on the floor. Get it...
- The easiest way to beat the Naga-ettes is to have Crono use Cyclone, clinching as many as three of them. Have Lucca use Heals and Tonics, and when she has nothing else to do, attack.
- Frog will join you. Play the organ to open the secret door.
- You will see a door before you in the cathedral. Don't go through it. Instead, turn left. Get the items from the chests and keep going left. Go through the door when you see it, and go up the stairs. Go through the first door. Get the contents of the three chests and then open the drawer. You'll get the Naga-ette bromide, which can be used later. The Henches are fairly easy to defeat. Exit that room and continue around the balcony until you see a second door. Hit the skull on the wall to open it. Go inside and get the Power Tab. Then leave that room and continue along the balcony. Comb the opposite side in the same fashion.
- In the next section of the cathedral, whichever staircase you take will collapse. Go through the door you will see. If you're on the left, don't hit the skull, it makes monsters appear. Go around all the rooms to the stairs that didn't collapse. Hit the skull on the right side of the cathedral. Find the room that had the spikes blocking you. Play the organ.
- Go to the place in the upper room where there was a note. Go through that door. Follow the hall, and save the game before going through the door. Make sure Frog has learned Slurp Cut.
- Yakra is pretty easy. Use X-strike with Crono and Frog, and Fire Whirl with Crono and Lucca. Have Lucca use Tonics and have Frog do Slurp to heal. Yakra should be dead in no time.
- Back in the castle, go back to the queen's quarters to have Marle rejoin you.
- Marle will invite you and Lucca to dinner. Lucca has some work to do, leaving you to escort Marle home. You now know she's the princess, so take her to Guardia castle. You'll get in trouble for "kidnapping" the princess. You'll be put on trial.
- If you behaved yourself at the fair, you'll be found not guilty, but still be locked up. Marle will try to stop the insanity, but to no avail.
- You have two choices: Wait in the dungeon for the three days, and Lucca will save you at the critical moment, then she'll join you. If you want to bust out of the dungeon, go up to the cell door and shake the bars until the guard comes in. Then walk up to him and press "A" at first chance. He'll collapse. Then you must fight your way out of the dungeon. Lucca will join you after she takes out the manager.
- The Dragon Tank is a lot harder than Yakra. Have Crono attack with Cyclone or Slash, if he has it. Have Lucca heal the group when nessesary. First take out the head. Then attack the wheels. Finally, take out the body. Have Lucca handy with Tonics at this point because Dragon Tank will counterattack.
- Run! Run toward the exit of the castle, where Marle will rejoin you. Then, head to the east in the forest. When you find the gate, take it.
- Stop in Trann Dome to the south if you need healing.
- Go to Lab 16. The enemies here aren't very hard, but avoid the rats! If the rats touch you, they'll steal a Tonic from you.
- Find Arris Dome. Go inside and talk to Doan. Then go downstairs and make your way to the Guardian.
- Attack the bits first. If you attack the Guardian before the bits, they'll counter with a Delta attack. After you take out the bits, use regular attacks on the Guardian. Repeat after he revives the bits. Use Aura Whirl to stay healthy.
- After Marle and Lucca find the seed, search the dead man one more time.
- Catching the rat can be difficult, but keep at it. The password is: Hold L and R and then press A, but you have to catch the rat first anyway. I tried.
- Watch the little movie of Lavos destroying the world in the basement, then take the seed back to Doan. He'll give you the jet bike key.
- Make for Lab 32. Johnny will come in and challenge you to a race. You have to race once, then you can walk if you like. In the race, use the B button for a boost. Watch the small figures at the bottom of the screen, and hit a boost right before going across the finish line.
- Find Proto Dome. It's the southernmost dome. Take out the various buggers(or debuggers. Whatever's there).
- Lucca will fix Robo. Here you will have the option of changing his name. When selecting which girl to leave behind, choose Marle.
- You can head for the factory area, but you can save time and head straight for the lab, because I'm going to tell you the password: It's XABY. (Get it? Zabie, XABY...)
- On the R series, use Cyclone, Flame toss, and Fire Whirl. Use Lucca to heal with Tonics and Mid Tonics.
- Use the sparkling bucket to restore HP and MP.
- Talk to the old man. When selecting whom to leave behind, choose Robo. (You should come back and get him right after you visit Spekkio)
- Spekkio will give you magic! You can try it out on him, but he's pretty hard at this point.
- Now that Marle knows magic(Robo can't use magic, but his lasers inflict Shadow type damage) pick up Robo.
- Take the timegate to Medina village.
- Visit Medina Square. Talk to all the people chanting to find out about Magus. (NOTE: Don't jump to conclusions, as you will find out, some of this info is slightly off.)
- You don't really need to shop here, the prices are a little...steep, shall we say. Don't bother with the inn, either. If you need to restore your HP and MP, go to the house with the imps in it and eat the cake that's on the edge of the table.
- There is a Magic Tab and a Speed Tab(forgive me if they are a different type) in the leader's house. One's on the kitchen counter, the other's on the counter in the upstairs bedchamber.
- Visit Melchior. His prices are a lot more reasonable.
- Work your way through Heckran Cave. It's pretty straight-forward. Use Magic on the enemies, they don't take physical attacks.
- Watch the message bar in the battle with Heckran! If it says "Go ahead..." Then do not attack! He will counter with a water wave spell that will hurt. When it says "Brief Counterattack break" then use Lightning and Fire Punch. Heal with Robo's Cure Beam.
- Jump in. Go into Lucca's house and see her mother. Wait until Taban goes back downstairs, then talk to him.
- Use the Gate at the fairgrounds.
- Guardia Castle's in an uproar. The King is injured, and Queen Leene is waiting by his side. Maybe you should check on the troops at Zenan Bridge.
- At the bridge, talk to the Knight Captain. Poor knights are so hungry, maybe the chef can help.
- Talk to the chef, wait until the maid and he stop talking, then exit the castle. The chef will give you the Jerky and a Power Tab.
- Give the Jerky to the Knight Captain, then talk to him again to recieve a Gold Helm.
- Use lightning on the Deceased, and attack Ozzie, because you have to, I guess. Follow Ozzie.
- Use Fire and/or lightning on Zombor's legs. Use things like Rocketpunch and Cyclone on the head, or Ice if you brought Marle.
- Visit Dorino and Porre. If you have the Naga-ette bromide, a man in Dorino might give you a Speed Tab.
- Go to the Denadoro Mts. Finding your way up is pretty straight-forward.
- You'll see two Free Lancers sharpening their swords or something. After you fight or avoid them, head to the left. Fall down the leftmost waterfall. You'll get the Silver Earring (Erng) and the Silver Stud.
- He's the wind, or is he? Attack only one of the twin terrors for the first fight. They do X-Strike mostly, so heal with Robo.
- In the second fight, use your strongest magic spells. This might include Fire Punch, Fire Sword, etc. Whenever you see the words "Starting Tornado Energy," use Slash on him. Trust me. Masa and Mune together will surrender after you deplete 3,600 HP. ("They beat us, big brother." "That was fun!")
- Ride the wind, and head for Tata's house. He lives in Porre. Claim the Hero Medal from him.
- Go to the Cursed Woods, north of Porre. Head straight up and enter the bush from the back.
- Show Frog the Hero's medal. Open the chests(they look like acorns) to claim the Masamune's hilt and the Magic Scarf.
- Take the pieces of the Masamune to the person who made it. (Hint: He put his name on it.)
- Did you notice a portal at the End of Time that led to 65,000,000 B.C.? Take it now.
- Use spells that hit a lot of things at once on the Reptites. After two fights, you will get to name Ayla. You will attempt to explain things to Ayla, but she won't understand, especially if Robo's switched in. ("Rawboot?")
- Find the cheif's hut in the Ioka village. Talk to Ayla. Before this, switch out Robo and Marle in if you want to dance at the party.
- Great party, huh? Do you belive that Lucca actually likes that stuff? Talk to everyone, eat the poi, dance with Marle, etc. After that, challenge Ayla. ("Push A button much times!") If you keep at it long enough, eventually she'll get full.
- Talk about an unlucky thirteen! The Gate Key's been taken. Those footprints look pretty suspicious. Must've been Reptites. Talk to Ayla,(keep Robo with you) then find someone in the village who knows where they went.
- Before you follow the Reptites, go to the Hunting Range. (North, up by the Dactyl's nest)Fight everything. You'll win precious items for barter. Take them to the trade hut and get new weapons for everybody.
- The Forest Maze is long, but again pretty straight-forward. So is the Reptite Lair. Just remember: "Thunder stun all dinosaurs!" (For those of you who are a little slow, that means use Lightning on the dino jerks)
- Stun Nizbel with lightning, then use Rocketpunch with Robo and attack with Ayla, unless you've learned Rollo Kick. Heal with Cure Beam and Kiss. Keep Crono up.
- Climb back up the Mystic Mountains and jump. Take the Dreamstone to Melchior.
- Take the Dreamstone to Melchior. He'll repair the Masamune. Take it to Frog.
- Those memories explain a lot, don't they? Take Lucca with you and head for the Magic Cave. (It's the mountain to the right of the Denadoros. It doesn't have a hole at the entrance.)
- Wow! More memories! Now I guess you understand the whole thing, huh? Before you enter the cave, take Frog to visit Spekkio, otherwise Magus will be VERY hard for you.
- Work your way through the Magic Cave.
- Enter the castle and talk to everyone. Spooky, isn't it? Hit the thing that looks like a save point after exploring both sides.
- Slash is on the left and Flea is on the right. Since Flea is harder, take on Slash first.(You win a weapon for Crono) Fight the Omnicrones and Decedents until Frog learns Heal. This spell is essential.
- Use X-Strike on Slash. It takes away about 500 HP every time. Have Lucca help out with the Techs when Frog is healing.
- Use your very best on Flea! The first one is a fake that will cast MP Buster, usually on Crono, I've noticed. Give Crono MP, pronto! You should now know Swordstream. Use this and the latest techs you've learned.
- Work your way through the castle. Just remember you have to alternate between Magic and physical attacks with the Jugglers.
- If you fall down the trapdoors Ozzie is pulling, two of the save points in the room will be enemies, one will take you back to the trap room, and the last one is real. THE REAL ONE IS ALWAYS ACROSS FROM THE TELEPORT. Be sure to open all the chests.
- Ozzie isn't the only target. Attack anything and everything else, and you'll win.
- Hope you're well stocked. Magus is one of the hardest bosses in the game. Here's a list of the spells you should know:
- Red Pin
- Swordstream
- Spire
- Fire Sword
- Heal
- The battle is long and tough. Have Frog alternate attacking Magus with the Masamune and casting Heal when Magus is on a different type of Magic.
- No, Ayla can't eat Frog. Get some rest, you need it.
- The North Wood is opposite the Hunting Range. It's where the Reptites followed Ayla. Now look at that mess!
- Go to the Hunting Range and stock up on the goods. The trade house will have new stuff. GET RUBY VESTS.
- The Dactyl nest is just north of the Laruba Ruins and the Hunting Range. Head on up to the top. Yet another straight-forward area.
- Take Frog with you to the Tyrano Lair.
- Hit the A button to open the Tyranosaurus skulls. Go in the one that opens.
- Work your way to Kino. He'll free the Larubas and open the locked skull for you.
- Once you get up to the top, you'll usually have to flip switches to open gates. It's pretty easy. Remember that the dino's weaknesses are lightning.
- In the room that teleports you and enemies attack without warning, be persistant. You should reach the stairs quickly.
- Nizbel II is easy if you do this: Use Volt Bite with Crono and Ayla, and cast Heal with Frog. When you don't need to heal, do Leap Slash.
- If you have Fire Armor, equip it now. I hope you listened earlier and got Ruby Vests.
- Take out Azala first. Azala and Black Tyrano will use many HP Down attacks, so use Slurp Kiss. When he starts roaring, use Volt Bite, Spire, and Bubble Hit. When Black Tyrano reaches 0, he'll lash out with a deadly fire attack!! Stay healed, because all his roars do HP down. BT has 10,500 HP. Just keep at it.
- This is a MAJOR turning point!! From this point, the plot thickens, a lot of sad things happen, and the enemies and bosses become MUCH harder. (Can you tell I looove emotional plots?)
- You can't go to Terra Cave right now. Find the skyway, and use it. Explore Enhasa. Speak to Doreen(she looks like Masa) for some wise sayings.
- Here's how to get all the treasures: First go to Kajar, and talk to the Nu facing the wall in the back. (Nus are the fat blue guys.) He'll tell you that "Water summons wind, wind makes fire dance." In Enhasa and Kajar, there are a lot of books, but only three are openable. Open the book of Water first, then Wind, then Fire. (In both cities.) You'll face six Nus in one city. Have Frog handy to cast Heal. I suggest Robo for your third member. You'll win tabs. The other time, you'll get the Black Rock. It invokes a triple tech, but you don't yet have the third member of your party. In Zeal Palace, scratch the Nu's back, and go back to Kajar and scratch the Nu's back. It's the one standing at a bookcase in the big research room.
- Find the bedroom in Zeal Palace. Here you'll see two of the most important characters in the game having a conversation. You've probably learned a lot about the queen, but these two will reveal the truth. You won't get a chance to talk to Schala. She'll leave. Don't bother Janus. Alfador only likes him.
- Go up the main hall. (You have to wind around because Masa and Mune are blocking the way.) Schala will open the door with her pendant. If you try it, however, it won't work. You must have heard people comment on the pendant. You must have heard people what happens when Schala communes with the Mammon Machine.
- Charge the pendant at the Mammon Machine. Now you can open sealed doors and chests! I'll inform some information on it in "Break the Seal!"
- Break into the queen's hall. She won't be happy to see you. Let Golem beat you. The outcome will be the same.
- Now, how in the heck are you gonna get back there? "The key to defeating Lavos" DOES lie in that period. Hey, maybe the Old Man at the End of Time can help!
- Open the sealed chests and doors. NOTE: There are chests in 600 A.D. And 1000 A.D. in the same position. DO THIS: Open the chests in 600 A.D., but don't take the stuff out. Now go to the same place in 1000 A.D. The item will have upgraded! Then you can get the regular one from 600 A.D. You might have noticed the pyramid north of Medina. Take the armor. There are at least three better weapons, and only one better armor.
- Head for Sewer Access in the future. It's SE of Arris Dome.
- The enemies in Sewer Access are pretty easy. Make your way through.
- Hmmm.. Keeper's Dome, eh? There's a sealed door here! What say we open it?
- Huh? Examine all the lights. There's also a Magic Tab in here, in the outcropping before the door. Take it now, it disappears later.
- The Wings of Time... here you may name the Epoch. Head back to the Dark Ages.
- The Skyway was closed by the prophet. NOW you can enter Terra cave. Switch in Lucca and Frog. Buy new weapons for the three you have in. Save the game before you enter the beast's lair.
- There are two paths at the beginning. Go right to find a tab.
- Use Lightning and Fire on the Blue Beast, and Water on the Red Beast. Ignore the Imp. You can attack him, but it's likely he'll run away before you kill him. He has 1,200 HP. The beasts have 5,000 each.
- You'll find your way up Mt. Woe eventually. I can't give understandable instructions. You'll have to fight a LOT, but by the time you reach the top, you should know Lightning 2, Fire 2, and Water 2. Put 'em together... DELTA STORM!!!! Use this Triple Tech against...
- Giga Gaia. I hope you opened the sealed chests. Equip armor that absorbs either Fire or Shadow. Cast Delta Storm on Giga Gaia. After the hands are destroyed, heal with Frog and use another attack on Giga Gaia. Then let him have it until he revives his hands and repeat. Crono should know Life now.
- Hey, it's Melchior! Our resident Guru of Life is in the wrong time period, or is he? You'll find out later.
- Schala left the skyway open. You'd better go follow Dalton, but.. where'd he go? OK, I'll tell you. He went back to Zeal Palace. Head for the Queen's Hall.
- Head to Zeal Palace and take a long, last look at the beautiful kingdom of Zeal.
- Find Dalton. All I can say is this: Heal with Frog, and use Lucca and Crono's best attacks. Also use your triple tech. Dalton has a mere 3,500 HP.
- A sort of Gate. Prepare to enter a Hell filled with Lavos devotees...
- This is the "great" Undersea Palace. Make sure you have Lucca in, and either Frog or Marle (prefferably Frog.) Use only Fire on the Red Scouts(actually you can hit the red ones with Shadow also), Water on the Blue, and Lightning on the Scouters. IF YOU DO SOMETHING ELSE THEY'LL DO A DEADLY COUNTERATTACK.
- You have to flip a lot of switches here. Hit the switches on either side of the first room to open the paths to the back room. Hit the switch in the middle of the back room to open the door to the main way. Enter the back room on the left side, and make your way along the edge of the room. Nearing the center, find the hidden room with the Demon Edge, a weapon for Frog.
- After the elevator, you must trip the switches on either side of the big room to open the way forward.
- On the Golem Twins, you can stop them from attacking altogether this way: Cast Lightning 2, Water 2, Fire 2, and keep going. NEVER cast the same type of magic twice in a row. They'll only attack with a Dalton Copycat of buuuuuuuuurp.
- The hall of the Mammon Machine! Crono will try to stop the machine with the Red Knife, but, alas, it won't work.
- You'll face Lavos. He'll annhilate your party. But the game isn't over.
- The prophet will reveal his true form. It's Magus! Maybe if he wants to cream Lavos, he can't be that bad. Magus will try to stop Lavos, but it won't work. Schala will beg her mother to stop. Her mother is too far gone to listen. She lets Lavos begin to engulf Schala and Magus.
- The only way to save Schala is to stop Lavos. Of course, Crono may pay the ultimate price...
- You'll have to accept it: Crono's dead. Now, explore the Last Village. Buy from the Nu. If you wait for him to leave, you can get a Magic Tab.
- Save the game before entering the commons. Switch in Lucca, Frog, and Ayla.
- Find your stuff in the Blackbird. Don't leave until you have opened five chests. Then head to the wing.
- Golem Boss won't even attack. Just hold "A" with a rubber band and get some cookies.
- For Dalton, he'll always counter with opposite magic. Fire to water, etc. Equip Blue vests/mail and use Red Pin and Flame Kick.
- You're not done. Speak to the people at the Commons. Learn of the stranger at the North Cape.
- Magus is Janus.. No wonder he was so irritable! Now you have to make a split decision: You can kill Magus, and Frog will turn back to a human at the end of the game. Or you can let Magus live, and he'll join you. Once he learns DarkMatter, that Black Rock will be very useful! In this guide I will assume you let him live. If you kill him, substitute in the suggested or preffered character.
- Either way, Magus tells you to find Gaspar and ask. The Old Man might know, if you haven't figured it out already. Either way, make for the End of Time.
From hereon, these chapters can be completed in any order, and do not have to be completed. It's a good idea, though.
- So, you've discovered Gaspar. Take the Chrono Trigger to Belthasar. Magus already knows Magic, so you don't need to take him to Spekkio.
- Ready your party of Lucca, Ayla, and Frog. Follow Belth's instructions and get a clone from the Tent of Horrors. Pick it up at his house.
- If you have the Chrono Trigger and the clone, you're ready.
- Up on Death Peak, dash up to a tree and walk in place until the wind dies. Then dash up to the next and repeat. This isn't easy, so have heart.
- You will have to fight three Lavos Spawn. Use only single attacks. The Lavos Spawn will immediately attack with needles; you can't prevent it. Heal up with Frog and use your best techs that only hit one enemy. DO NOT attack the shell. It will die with the head.
- On the slippery part, hold up+left to walk fairly safely. Let go of up when you need to go down. Dash to get back up.
- Push the shell up to the ladder and climb it.
- Your party is now full again!(provided you spared Magus)
- "The knight spirit that wanders..." This is the first in the default order for the optional objectives.
- Fly the Epoch to Truce, then head west until you see a new continent. This is Choras, your goal. Land here and save the game.
- Go to the Cafe in the year 600 A.D. Talk to the man who is missing his tools.
- Go to the Cafe(or Inn) in 1000 A.D. Talk to the man chugging soda.
- Get the tools from his wife.
- Give the tools to the man in A.D. 600. He'll go to repair the Northern Ruins.
- Enter the ruins, and take out the monsters. Use the party of Frog, Crono, and Lucca. Use Leap Slash, SpinCut, and Lucca's Napalm or Mega Bomb on the skeletons. The sentries must also be physically destroyed.
- Head into the basement (the Sentry's side)and read the gravestone. Watch what happens. This claims you the NewMasamune, Frog's best weapon.
- Follow the steps listed in "Break the Seal" for opening the sealed chests. If done so, you will find Marle's best weapon: The Valkereye, and the Shiva Edge: Crono's second best.
- If you talked to the woman with the plant in Zeal palace and told her to plant it, you should be set. If not, she happened to survive, so find her in the commons and tell her to plant it. If you tell her to burn it this will not work.
- Near Fiona's Villa there should be a whirlpool. There you can find the sunken desert.
- The monsters in the desert hate water, and it lowers their defense, so your party should include your two strongest characters (if you have Wondershot include Lucca!) plus Frog.
- You'll have to fight a lot in the first section. Go for the treasures prepared. Ice 2 or Water 2 should kill the fishmen, and the Hexapods will be weakened.
- In the Retinite's room, you should go for all the treasures and walk around until he attacks you. Use Ice 2 or Water 2 (he won't take damage but he'll be weakened) and attack with your other characters. Frog should use Water 2 and then Heal when you need it. Have one character attack the top and the other attack the bottom. He may take a while.
- Leave the desert and talk to Fiona with Robo in your party. Let him stay. Take the Epoch into the future. Looks different, huh?
- The women in Fiona's Shrine sell Vigil hats, the third best armor in the game. If you can afford it, buy a few.
- Find Robo at the back of the Shrine.
- The characters will have a discussion. Lucca will wake up in the middle of the night. Walk toward the right edge of the screen (near Magus) and find the red Gate. Read Lucca's diary, then go downstairs, into the kitchen. The password is Lara, or, in other words, L-A-R-A.
Part 2
