The Mobile Infantry is equipped with some of the finest field weapons available. It should be noted that very few weapons are energy based, the majority of field arms will rely on basic projectile systems.
This is the basic assault rifle used by the MI. It is a robust bullpup design. In all appearances it looks like a scaled down version of the M-41a pulse rifle used by the Colonial Marines. Unlike today's smart weapons it does not have a cyberlink to make targetting more effecient, it does however have the ability to function as a guided weapons system. By using field guided projectiles and sighting contiunously through the telescopic sight the trooper is able to guide his rounds to a moving target with a fair degree of accuracy. It should be noted that this is not the standard round issued to MI troopers.
Conceal. | Rel. | WA | Rnd Type | Damage | # of Shots | ROF | Range | Wt |
None | VR | +5 | 7.62 special | Varies | 50 | 25 | 500m | 2.5 kg |
NOTE: The weapon is designed to fire a wide variety of rounds, each having its own damage rating. The basic round is a 7.62 caseless, mounted in a power assist magazine to increase rate of fire. Though in the movie there are no actually suggestions about the number of rounds in a clip I have choosen 50 to avoid some of the problems associated with the M-41a from Aliens. There are also suggestions in the movie, but not on the Starship Troopers HP that the weapon also includes an under the barrel shotgun.
Tracer | Damage |
7.62 standard | 6d6 |
HE | 9d6 |
AP | 4d6 |
Tracer | 7d6 |
In addition there are several field classified rounds under development. The Gamemaster may feel free to add whatever type of special round he prefers.
This is the standard crew served support weapon in use by the MI. It is called a twin 50 because of its appearance, not because of the rounds it fires. The weapon has all the same damage and accuracy values as the Morita but is capable of firing approximately a 1000 rounds a second, and comes with an absolutely mammoth ammo hopper, which though no value is ever given in the movie must be capable of holding 5 or 6 hundred thousand rounds easily.
The Smart or Target Seeking Round: This round is currently available only for the twin 50. It has a range of 5000m and is able to lock onto a target via HUD sighting, remote obersrvation sighting, direct sight, and over the hozizon target assistance. The round is fairly rare, only a tenth of the total rounds in the hopper will be target seeking, but they can be considered to have a WA of +10.
This is the standard grenade issued to MI Troopers. It can be detonated by digital timer, impact, 10m proximity detector or remote control. The weapon is designed to release sharpnel and flechette packages over a 30m radius. The damage goes down for each 3m radius beyond 30m.
There are two other versions of this grenade available. The MX-90TF, which also releases a neurotoxin tailered to the bugs, which adds biotoxin II damage to all bugs, and biotoxin I effects to all humans caught in the blast. And the MX-90SK, a stun grenade without the sharpnel effects. Several other versions are mentioned on the Starship Troopers HP but none are given designations, an Incediary version, and a gas version that releases non-toxic gases (perhaps tear gas). There is also mention that a psi-activated detonator might soon be available.
Type | Blast Radius | Damage | Weight |
MX-90 | 30m | 6d10 | .65kg |
MX-90TF | 25m | 6d10 + Biotoxin | .65kg |
MX-90SK | 20m | 3d10/temporary | .65kg |
Incendiary | 25m | 4d10 + fire | .65kg |
Non-Lethal Gas | 50m | Gas Effect | .65kg |
Smoke | 50m | Reduced Visibility | .65kg |
This is one of the most dangerous weapons issued to the MI trooper. It is a 2kiloton nominal yield field artillery weapon designed to eliminate large numbers of enemies. The weapon makes use of a very high effeciency design that makes the production of nuclear fallout very limited, and in fact must use only a few grams of fissile material at all. Unlike normal explosives the tac nuke can be assumed to destroy everything in its blast radius, and do 10d10 damage, decreasing by 1d10 for each additional 25m radius. The N2 is the smallest of the field nukes, and there are several other sizes.
The weapon can be detonated by timer or manually. It can be slotted onto the end of the Morita Smartrifle, and fired like a rifle grenade for up to 300m.
Blast Radius | Weight |
250m | 2.5kg |
This is by far the preferred way to launch a field nuke. The weapon system makes use of a reusable launching tube, with built in HUD targetting. The warheads however are modular and different yields can be slotted onto a universal rocket projectile. Each trooper may be required to carry upto 3 pairs, one warhead and one launcher per pair, in a special backpack.
The MR-7 rocket motor has an effective range of 65km. Minimum safe range from tac warheads is 3km.
Conceal. | REL. | Type of Rnd. | WA | # of Shots. | ROF | Weight |
None | VR | MR-7 | +5 | 1 | 1 | 4.3kg |
Type | Range | Minimum Safe Distance |
MN3 | 65km | 3km |
MN20 | 65km | 10km |
NOTE: This weapon system makes use of a much dirtier warhead. This means more damage and more radiation, thus the much larger minimum safe distance. Assume anything inside the blast radius is destroyed. These weapons can be deployed in a variety of fashions. They can be air detonated to destroy surface troop formations, they can be impact and tunnel detonated to destroy ground and sub-surface installations. They can be linked to HUD visual, and IR/Radar Target for smart launching. They can be set for Neutron bombardment to destroy enemy troops without harming installations. The blast from the rocket motor is particularly large, nothing in the direct line of fire is safe, and the exhaust cone from the weapon can cause burn damage to anything in a cone of 45 degrees, plus upto to 25m behind the shooter.
