Castlevania 2: Simon's quest

Back in the 80's three of the largest gaming franchises came out with sequels, Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, and Castlevania. The thing about these sequels is that they totally different from their preodcessors. Castlevania 2 took it's step in the direction of RPG like elements such as towns, nonlinear gamplay, and the ability to buy items.

Castlevania 2 takes place right after the first one. After Simon defeated Dracula, he started getting chest pains, he is suffering Dracula's curse, unfortunately the only way to remove the curse is to reassemble Dracula's body parts and burn him.

The remaining of Drac's minions placed his body parts in 5 different mansions.

The game starts in the town of Jova where you should buy a white crystal. Crystals help you see invisible platforms, open paths in lakes, and stuff like that.

Once you actually get to the mansion you must buy a stake from an old man in a cloak to break the orb that holds Drac's first body part, his rib. And the game goes from there.

The game has several good points including a password which was missing from the first game. Also, the game is somewhat easier, whenever you die, you start off right where you died, very cool. It's still classic Castlevania action for fans of the first one. The music and RPG elements don't hurt either.

Like all games, Castlevania 2 is not perfect, there are a few flaws in this game. One of them is that all the forest and towns and graveyards looke alike, they are only different color. And sometimes it's hard to tell where to go next. But that's just nitpicking.

Graphics Music Sound Control Overall
Improved over the first one, but the repeating backgrounds don't help. I give it a 7 Still rocks, maybye even more so than the first one. The music gets a 10 from me. I hate rating sound FX. The SFX in this game is OK. I give it an 8 Same as the first one, pretty much. I give it a 7 Great game Castlvania fans should pick this one up! It gets a 9 from me.
