Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos

Ninja Gaiden 2 is one of those games. It's the kind of game that you won't finish the first time you play it. It is long and hard(emphasis on hard), and it doesn't spoil you with things like passwords. It's a "gamer's game" and there isn't a whole lot of games like it out there.

NG2's intro starts out right after the first game's end. A forebodding figure is standing on top of a castle balcony looking at the lightning filled horizon. A ninja drops behind him and informs him that Jaquio has been defeated. Then the large figure responds and asks him if the Ninja knows anything yet. The ninja servant responds with a negative. The forebodding figure laughs and talks about when all men will bow to him. The screen fades out.

The Ninja Gaiden series has always been well known for it's cinema between stages, these scenes moved the story along and are very entertaining on the whole.

Basically this game is about taking control of the Ninja Dragon, Ryu on a quest to defeat Ashtar, Lord of Darkness. The game starts in the middle of the city where Ryu is caught in an ambush. After fighting his way through the ambush, he comes across Robert T.S a military seargeant investigating Ashtar and the Sword of Chaos. Then the game goes from there, trust me the game is amazing.

The gameplay is simple, yet fun. You can climb on walls, do flips, wall jumps, use your sword, all kinds of powerups. Now the powerups in my opinion help make that game. From the windmill stars to the fire wheels they are all cool. But one powerup stands out from the rest, the Ninja doubles, when you pick one of these babies up, a red, transparent clone appears behind you and imitates your every move. This is extremely useful when there are enemies coming from behind you.

Another thing I want to mention is the challenge. This game is HARD. I have never finished this game. Oh I've made it to the final boss several times. But every time I get their I get excited and choke. Of course after repeated dying I finally decide to quit before I kill myself.

Graphics Music Sound Control Overall
Truly excellent. Incredible detail and enviroments. I give it a 9 Another shining part of this game. I give it a 9 Basic yet nifty FX. I give it an 8 Only one flaw which really can't be attributed to the control, if you get hit you get knocked back, often into pits. I give it an 8.5 Really hard, great game. You won't want to stop playing until you finish it. I give it a 9.5
