Startropics

Released in 1990 Startropics was a new franchise created by Nintendo that never really took off like they wanted to. It's an adventure game done somewhat like Zelda except it's a lot more linear.

This game stars Mike Jones who goes to C-Island(guess what it's shaped like) to see his Uncle who is a famous archeaologist. When he arrives there the cheif of the village on the island tells him that his Uncle has been abducted by unknown forces. After giving Mike a trusty yo-yo(your main weapon) he gives him instructions to go to his Uncle's laboratory to get his Sub-C.

This game is sectioned in chapters, for example, chapter one is the introductory chapter where you get your yo-yo and Sub-C(a submarine). In Chapter 2 you must rescue a dolphin baby from a giant octopus. In 3 your Sub-C's been wrecked from a storm, after going through a series of adventures in this chapter you get your Sub-C repaired. In 4 you've been swallowed by a whale. In 5 you must find a way around an old pirated ship blocking a strait. In 6 you finally find your Uncle who tells you about aliens, cubes, and crap. In 7 you must battle your way through the alien ship. And 8 is the final battle.

If there is one thing that is really bad about this game is it's the godawful control. Many times you'll find yourself walking into enemies and jumping into pits and such. Plus you can't move diagonally. It's really a shame that the controls are so bad, because it would be a pretty fun game if they were.

When you play this game get ready to get annoyed because this game is full of....BAD JOKES! Trust me, you'll see when you play.

Graphics Music Sound Control Overall
Not bad in the fighting areas, but on the overworld they look superdeformed. I give it a 7 Cool music with a tropical beat. I give it an 8.5 The sound effects are for the most part uninspired. I give it a 5 You read what I said about the control. I give it a 4 An average game. It would have been much better if the control was improved. I give it a 6
