The Elder Races

The Elder races have existed on Edin for as long as any can remember. They quarrel, they bicker, they kill each other. They create factions within their own ranks that kill their own people. They all commit foolish acts, many of which have been monumental. Below lies the list of the Elder races.

The Orcs  The Gnomes
The Elves  The Humans
The Ukonians  The Dwarves
The Trolls  The Spurs

The Orcs

The Orcs are an Elder race which lies somewhere between humans and elves. Their skin pigmentation takes on a variety of colours, depending on the element they are most exposed to at birth. They are far stronger than any human or elf, and are at least an equal match for a strong dwarf. They have constantly been at odds with the elves, humans, and dwarves, and are known for their horrible acts of cruelty, and their frightening battle strategies. Male orcs are slightly smaller than the females, though more wiry and dexterous.  A female orc is pregnant for 7 Edinian months, shorter than any other Elder race. Their eyesight is just as good as any elf's, but slightly worse than that of a gnome. They are the second least dexterous of all the races, and are quite loud as they move about. They make terrible spellcasters and their intelligence is horrid, but the women are quite often found as being Priestesses, or town Mayors.
The orcs main weapons of choice are axes, battle axes, poisoned daggers, crossbows, slings, clubs and maces. They make brutal enemies, who's main battle strategy is charging headlong into their enemy's main ranks, all the while tearing, punching, biting and stabbing wildly. Because of the large birth rate in the Orcish species, lack of numbers is seldom a problem. The orcs rely on their upper body strength and tough hide to win in hand-to-hand combat, and seldom try to defend against attacks.
Their main weaknesses lie in Light magics, and Spur magics. They spend most of their life in caves or mines, so bright light injures them. Because of their early siding with the Nether, they are cursed with a weakness to the magics of the Spur.
Time and time again, the orcs have sided with the humans, or the gnomes, or the elves, only to change their minds and suddenly side with the Unlit Ones, the Hyena Clan, or the Demons. Thus the Ukonians have decided never to sign another treaty with them again.

The Gnomes
Here's some gnomish music.

The Gnomes are the shortest of all the races. They are fairly intelligent, and make excellent leaders. Though they may be small of stature, they are one of the most deadly adversaries to battle. Their hearts and lungs are nearly twice as strong as that of a human, allowing them to fight or run longer without tiring. They are built like Jack Russel Terriers, all muscle, constantly ready to spring.
They easily wield heavier weapons, and make excellent farmers or miners. They have always lived side by side with the Dwarves, their close cousins. They live almost as long as a Troll, and hardly ever divorce after marriage. They are the most dexterous of all the races, and one of the best when it comes to stealth. Their eyesight is third among the elder races. They live all over Granj, and on only a few of the coastal islands, because all gnomes detest ships and get seasick easily.
Their weapons of choice are warhammers, battle axes, maces, flails, slings, and shortbows. They forge some of the best armor, and wear it, too. Their intelligence makes them mediocre spellcasters. A gnome can harness Nexus magics with ease, and then can be quite a formidable foe.
Their main battle strategy is to run in from the back, using their axes, maces, and warhammers to fell their enemies while they are kept occupied by larger allies.

The Elves
Here's the Elvish theme song.

The Elves are the most charismatic of the races. They are like the Canada of Edin. Always willing to help the starving, heal the injured, fight when none else will see the foolishness of it all. They are slow to act in anger, and always think things through. They are the masters of stealth, very powerful magic users, the most dexterous of races, and they are immortal, which means they live forever, and only can die by great sorrow of the heart, or be slain. They are not affected by sicknesses or plagues, and can go without eating for far longer than humans. Female elves are pregnant for ten Edinian months. Elves are one of the more lightweight of the races.
They time and time again have been crushed underfoot by the stronger, or larger, or more corrupt races, only to spring back tenfold, wielding magical weapons, and being led by legendary heroes. They, unfortunately, are the chief bearers of the Universe-Blade Forestfang, which is more a curse than anything, as evil is steadily drawn to the sword. They live all over the continent of Granj, from the frozen south to the frozen north, and on multiple coastal islands. They make good seafarers, and are the main Edinian explorers, other than the Dragons.
Their main weapons of choice are crossbows, long bows, short bows, magical blades, battle-maces, rapiers, short swords, and long swords. Their main battle strategy is to send the rangers and warriors to the front ranks, as the archers rain down arrows, and the mages, who stand far behind the archers, kill without the victim ever seeing them.

 The Humans
Human music? Sorta.

Humans are the most average of all the races. They are those against whom height and strength are often measured. A human female is pregnant for nine edinian months. Humans aren't very good at stealth, but nonetheless make excellent hunters, spies, or rangers. They aren't as intelligent, as, say, elves, and aren't as quick-witted as gnomes. Not as strong as orcs, not as fast as Spurs, not as magically powerful as demons. They are surprisingly frail creatures, though strangely make up the majority of the ranks of the Hyena Clan. They have proven, though, to be survivors. They are very charismatic, and make excellent politicians, or multi-racial leaders. They generally only mate with other humans, or dwarves, or elves, but it's not uncommon for a half orc to appear in human villages.
Time and time again, they, like the elves, have been smashed down by the orcs, or the trolls, or, as of late, the Hyena Clan. But now they have new allies in the Ukonians, and the Unlit Ones. The elves generally stay out of "Trivial Mortal Matters" but have made an exception with the case of the Hyena Clan, and have sent to guard the weaker human cities a good 1000 rangers, and many magicians.
The Human's weapons of choice are wide-ranging. Because they have mediocre vision, strength, and stamina, they eventually can wield any form of weapon.

The Ukonians

UKON stands for "Ultimate Knights Of the Nexus". The Ukonians are these knights. Born of the nexus completely, they were sent to Edin to defend it against the threat of the Nether and Spur war. they are above average with strength, sight, stamina, dexterity, and life span. Some Ukonians have been known to be immortal. Ukonians take on a wide array of forms, with all of the races except the Hyena Clan having Ukonian citizens.
The Ukonians, like the humans, can wield any weapon with ease, though it takes lots of training. They make even better mages than Elves, and a Ukonian Elf is almost unstoppable, and could easily defeat a greater Spur Beast. However, they all have problems with their tempers. they have been known to start wars for no other reason than foolish arguments.
They are always led by legendary heroes, from Cir Rang-ol, to Longo, to Kra The Chaotic, to Retsam Ghinorwhilyer, to myself, and eventually to Ry-Let Ghinorwhilyer, who, as the prophets say, will end the Nether/Spur war.

The Dwarves
Here's the Dwarven theme song.

The Dwarves are the so-called "Sons of Stone". They are the master weaponsmiths on Edin, and are also the hardiest of all the races, both young and old. They can carry double their own weight for more than a week without eating, drinking, or sleeping. Though afterwards they could quite possibly expire, this is a commonly used method for aiding allies during war. Dwarves are one of the kindest races, holding no racial biasts, and just going about their work quietly.
They wield heavy weapons easily, and reserve the pride of having the greatest Edinian mage ever, Blue Tree, as one of their own. Blue Tree serves the UKON, and every Dwarven town, all over Granj, has sworn alliegance to the UKON because of this.

The Trolls
Here's the Troll's theme song.

Trolls are the stinkiest, dumbest, ugliest, and(fortunately for them), strongest and largest greatures on Edin. They, like the Orcs and Goblins, were easily persuaded to join the Nether. They have fought for as long as any can remember against the Humans, Elves, and especially the Dwarves. They live in deep caves, and are quite commonly found having the job of executioner, or prison guard. They heal exceptionally fast, and are nearly impossible to kill.
    That's good.
As of late, an Unlit One, who, via the Possesser, had taken over the body of a trollish general, entered the ranks of the Hyena Clan, and single-handedly killed every elder and nobleman at a large banquet. Then, he was killed.
Then, all hell broke loose. And the entire Hyena Clan went back to the northern Frozen Continent, deep into the Hurricane Swift, an army of...
...you guessed it, trees, on their tails. The Unlit One had given his life, and given the Elven Ukonians enough time to re-animate the army of trees that had years before destroyed more than 15000 Edinians.

The Spurs

The Spurs live in the plane of being, The Spur. They are seperated into two groups, Greater Spur Beasts and Lesser Spur Beasts. The greater are the leaders, and the lesser are, or course, the followers. The Spur has been at war with the Nether for as long as any can remember.
And you know what? They don't want it to stop. They don't understand the extent to which Edin, and all Edinian life, suffers because of them.
The spur, unlike the Nether, sends only Spur Cats, Drakes, and other lesser followers into battle, and leaves the Lesser Spur Beasts, and the Greater Spur Beasts, behind for defense.

The Dragons

The most wise, elegant, and graceful creatures ever to exist in the planes of being are the dragons. They are also the largest, though several centuries ago they dissapreared, and the Trolls took that title. They apparently went into the Nexus, to aid in the defense of Edin. This was explained by the Dragonians, a form of Ukonian knight that erupted from the Nexus only a little while ago. They are the masters of the remaining few Edinian Greater Drakes, who are almost as large as the ancient dragons were.
Together, the Dragonians and Ukonians battle with all their might against The Spur and The Nether, hoping that some day the prophecies will come true.

The Demons

The mightiest of all the Nether-Creatures, the Demons, in the Elven Religion, are said to be the children of the gods. They sure appear that way. Some, mainly the Edinian Demons, are purely elemental, and exist deep in the core of the earth, or high in the upper atmosphere. Some have been known to breed Black Dragons, who serve their every whim. They use these to duel with the drakes in midair, and to divebomb the Spur Cats on the ground. The Nether-born Demons are the most frightening. They wield pure, omnipotent Nether Magic, and lets just leave it at that, shall we?
