Sunlight streamed through the bedroom window and onto Crono's bed. He woke up, stretched, and yawned. Remembering what Tiger had told him, he dialed up Diddy.
BRRRIIIING!
"That must be him." Diddy answered.
"Hello?"
"Diddy, it's me."
"Hi Crono. So, did you think of anything?"
"Well, actually, I found something out." Crono explained what Tiger had told him.
"Ooh, I thought we'd seen the last of him!"
"Well, I guess not. I'm going to contact my friends, and we'll be over soon."
"Thanks a bunch! Bye." Click.
K. Rool sat on his throne, laughing hysterically.
"Ha ha ha! My plan worked perfectly. With no bananas to eat, the Kongs will starve! Now I'll have my revenge! MWA HA HA HAAAH!"
BRRRIIIING!
"Hello?"
"It's me."
"Hi, Crono! What's up?"
"Well, it's more of what's down, Lucca."
"Why? What's the matter?"
"The Kongs' banana supply has gone pretty low. Could you contact the others?"
"Sure thing! But why?"
"Some guy named K. Rool has stolen all the bananas, and they have hardly anything to eat. They need our help."
"If he only knew who he was messing with!" Crono chuckled.
"I know. Bye!" Click. Crono flumped back onto his bed. He had a lot of planning ahead to do. Knocking at the door downstairs interrupted his thoughts. He heard his mother answering it.
"Oh, hi Marle! Crono's upstairs in his room. Come on in!" Crono could hear the footsteps coming up the stairs. Soon there was knocking on his door.
"Come in, Marle."
"Hi Crono. Lucca called me and said something was the matter. What is it?" Crono explained it all to her. Marle was outraged.
"That awful person!"
"Calm down. I told Lucca to call the others, and they should be here any--" Knock knock knock!
"Come in!" Lucca and everyone else came in.
"Crono, we've all heard the news now. So how will we get there?"
"I know how already," smirked Crono.
Tiger was resting against a tree. After all the action, she was pretty tired out. At least now she had a chance for a break.
BRRRIIIING!
"A person's work is never done," she sighed as she picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Tiger?"
"Crono! What's happening?"
"Well, we kind of need to get to--"
"Diddy's place? I know. I'll be over in a sec." Click.
Soon Tiger had arrived. She created a Gate for them and waved good-bye.
"Good luck!"
"Aren't you coming with us?" But the Gate drowned out her answer.
When the friends arrived, Diddy greeted them.
"Finally! Come on over and we'll discuss the matter." They all sat down by the tree house, and Diddy began to speak.
"You know our story, right?" They all nodded. "We need to split up into teams to search for his new hideout. It could be rough."
"How many teams?" asked Marle.
"Three. Donkey, Dixie and I will lead each of the groups. You can all divide yourselves."
Finally, it was all sorted out. Crono was with Frog, Marle was with Magus and Ayla, and Robo went with Lucca.
"Okay everyone! If no one has spotted the hideout by evening, we'll all meet back here. Understood? Good."
As they left, Marle shouted back to Crono, "Good luck Crono! Please be careful." He gave her a wide grin before turning back.
After hours of traveling, fighting off Kremlings and such, Crono, Donkey, and Frog sat down for a rest.
"The way I see it," Donkey was saying, "K. Rool must have a pattern. First he was on a ship on the ocean, then in the air. What's the next part in the pattern?" Crono scratched his head.
"Beats me. Say, do you hear something?" Frog looked around.
"It comest from thy bushes over yonder."
"Should we check it out?" asked Donkey. Crono looked doubtful.
"I don't know. It could be a trap." Just then, as if on cue, a bunch of Kannons jumped out of the bushes. There were at least a dozen of them, and they were all armed with cannons. They surrounded the three friends completely in a circle.
"Man, do I ever hate when this happens!" groaned Donkey. They stood up and prepared to fight. But before they could raise their weapons, the attackers leaped on them like savage dogs, pounding away with their cannons. The two swordsmen did their best with their blades, but they really couldn't do very well in such close combat. Finally, the attackers went back into their circle, satisfied. Frog was badly injured and kneeling; the other two remained standing.
"Well, well, well. What have we here?" one Kannon jeered. "An ape and two strangers."
"Ha ha ha, look at that hair! Hey, who's the little frog prince there? What's the matter, Froggy? Hasn't the princess kissed you yet?" The Kannons all laughed. Frog got angry. He used his Cure2 technique to heal himself, figuring he had taken more damage than anyone else, and prepared to fight again. But somehow, Crono had been poisoned during the battle, and the other two hadn't noticed. He knew he was going to fall soon, the poison already beginning to bring him down. He couldn't tell either of them in time, but he had one last, desperate idea. With his last bit of strength, he called out silently, Kat! Help! We're badly injured. . . With that, he collapsed.
"Well, looks like the little boy has had enough! Come on, guys, let's tie these three up." They advanced slowly forward.
