Battle Plan

Super Mario RPG - First Battle

Attack Pattern: He pulls lots of bombs out of his sack...this is probably his favourite attack, but he will also attack with a regular chomp now and then. Near the end of the battle, he restores his HP with a Weird Mushroom.
Basic Fighting Strategies: Mallow causes hardly any damage with his regular attacks, and his bolt attack is a waste of FP that Mario could be using. Use Mallow for HP Rain, and to fill up your FP with honey syrups when necessary. When he isn't doing either of these things, you might want to put him in defense mode (I personally just have him attack...I find that defense mode doesn't usually do a lot of good...but that's just me).
Meanwhile, Mario goes on the offensive. Fire Orbs will cause tons of damage, and they might start Croco's tail on fire, which will take away one of his turns! Regular attacks also cause a fair amount of damage, and you may want to alternate between the two to conserve FP. Basically, Croco's a chump in this first fight. He only gets one attack in for every two of yours (sometimes he gets even less than that), and you shouldn't have much trouble beating him with a combo of regular attacks and fire orbs. Advanced Strategies: You can block Croco's attacks by pressing A just as he chomps, or just before a bomb hits you.

Super Mario RPG - Second Battle
Attack Pattern: If you try to leave the mine by spring-board, you'll bop your head on the roof. Croco will show up and steal your coins while you're unconscious, then he takes off with them. You have to chase him around in circles until you catch him. After that a battle begins. At first he uses a bomb attack, whihc isn't too dangerous, but later he'll change to "Chomp" - an attack where he throws an enemy at you. This attack may be dangerous, I think it's power depends on the enemy Croco throws.
Basic Fighting Strategies: Special attacks don't seem to be that useful against Croco in this fight. The Geno Beam or Fire Orb may be useful, but they aren't any better than regular timed-hits, from what I have seen. So stick to timed hits, and have Mallow cast HP rain, or else use mushrooms to keep your HP up.
Advanced Strategies: It's a pretty easy fight, so there isn't much else to say.. Blocking his regular attack is pretty much the same as before.
