BACKGROUND:
Like their cousins, Octolots, Octovaders are believed to be alien creatures used
by Smithy to invade the Mushroom World. These monsters are adept at herding and
taming other life-forms, so many researchers believe Smithy employed them to
take control of native wildlife on the planets he invaded and use them to control
rebellions. In the Mushroom World, they worked with a variety of monsters to
slow down Mario and his friends. Octovaders are purple Octopus-like creatures which carry two turtle shells with bat wings on them. The purpose of these shells is unclear: one theory is that they are magic talismans used to focus energy into special attacks. Octovaders are not very dangerous on their own, but they almost always appear with other monsters. They are more powerful but also a bit slower than Octolots.
QUOTES: "I'm a part-time typist!" - SMRPG
BATTLE PLAN: Attack Pattern: Octovaders use a lot of special attacks mixed with a rare regular attack. Drain Beam will cause average damage to all party members and Gunk Ball will prevent one character from using magic and cause a below-average amount of damage to the character as well. Octovaders will sometimes counter regular attacks. Basic Fighting Strategies: Most magic attacks are only mildly effective. Geno's attacks are best, especially Blast. Octovader takes about two timed-hits to beat and it's okay to leave them until later in the battle although they may mute some of your characters. Advanced Strategies: Geno Blast can wipe out all of the Octovaders (and probably many of the other enemies) on the screen, but you should normally stick to regular attacks unless your party is weak. Use your most powerful fighters against these guys so they don't get as many chances to counter attack. Blocking Octovaders is pretty easy. They move towards you and "kiss" you. Press A right on the "kiss".
