During Belle's baptism Marlena sees
Stephano standing at the door of the church looking at her. She knows that
is she won't tell Roman that truth about her affair with John, Stephano
will, so she tell him, in front of everybody in the church.
Marlena sees Stephano at the door.
Marlena: (To the reverend) Stop
it !
She turn to Roman and begging to
cry: I have to talk to you.
Roman: Doc, we are in the middle
of the baptism.
Marlena: I know...there is something
that I have to tell you.
Roman: Can't it wait until we are
done here?
Marlena: NO...no, I have to tell
you right now.
Roman: Why are you so upset? What's
the matter?
Marlena begins to cry.
Marlena: He is going to tell you
(she looks at Stephano)...I have to tell you before he tells you...
Roman: What are you talking about?
Who is going to tell me? Tell me what?
Marlena can't hold back her tears.
Marlena: I lied to you (she cried
harder). I broke my marriage vows. I was unfaithful you you with another
man.
The camera get closer to Roman,
Marlena, John, Sami and all the other guests. The all looks shock. Marlena
keep crying.
The Scene Fades out.
Marlena: Caroline...
Caroline rushes over and take Belle
from Marlena's arms.
Caroline: Here, honey, here, give
me Isabella. It's ok. It's alright.
Roman: Doc, Doc, what's wring with
you? You are talking crazy.
Marlena: No, it's not crazy. It's
very painful and very sad, especially for you. Oh god, I'd do anything
to keep this from hurting you. I can't. The truth has to come out and you
have to know about it.
The reverend: Marlena, I think
you need some time alone to talk about this.
Roman: No, it's ok. She has just
been under a lot of stress lately. That's it. (he turns to Marlena). You've
been under a lot of stress, Doc. The stress from the kidnapping, the worrying
about Sami. It would be too much for anyone.
Marlena shakes her head: Roman,
it's true.
Roman: Listen, I know, I know that
you blame yourself for what happened all those years we were separated,
but I told you that doesn't matter anymore. It happened a long time ago,
you thought about was dead. I got over that.
Marlena: No, it's happened when
you came back (she begins to cry harder. she can hardly make the words
out). It happened last winter.
The Scene Fades out.
Roman: No, it can't be true.
Marlena: I wish it weren't. I'd
give anything if it hadn't happened, if I could take this back, If I could
change it and make it different, but I can't. Roman, i know it's a terrible
time for me to do this.
(she turns to the reverend): I
am sorry...(she turns to Roman again still crying) I am sorry...I couldn't
let you hear this from somebody else. I couldn't. I had to tell you myself.
The Scene Fades out.
Sami jump in and screams at her
mother.
Sami: You said you wouldn't. You
make your choice this morning. You said you wouldn't change your mind.
Marlena can hardly speak: Sami,
I am sorry. I had to...I had to...
Sami: You said his happiness is
more important than anything. You promised. You promised you would never
hurt him like this. Oh, Daddy, I am so sorry...
Roman: You knew, sweetheart? You
knew that your mother was having an affair?
Sami hugs her father.
Marlena sobs: Oh, yes...
The Scene Fades out
Sami: I tried to protect you, I
tried. I did everything I could to make sure you wouldn't find out, to
make sure you weren't hurt. I am so sorry, Daddy.
Roman: So it's true. Oh, Sami,
oh my god, sweetheart, peanut...no wonder you've been having so many problems.
You've been keeping this terrible secret. I am so sorry you had to bare
this thing alone.
(He turns to Marlena and screams
at her) And you...How could you do this to your daughter? You saw her suffering.
You saw what it was doing to her and you just stood by and did nothing
to stop it? how could you do that?
(Marlena is crying so hard she
can barley stand. John couldn't care to see her like that and he steps
in).
John: Roman, you can't blame Marlena.
Roman: John, stay out of this.
This is between my wife and me.
John: No, it's not.
Roman: Yes, it is. This doesn't
concern you.
Sami: Daddy, let's just go home.
Roman: It's alright sweetheart,
I have to talk to your mother.
Sami: Daddy, please...
John: Roman...
Roman: John! You are not involve
in this.
John: I AM involve in this.
Silence. They all look at each
other for a few moments.
Roman: YOU? YOU WERE SLEEPING WITH
MY WIFE?
The Scene Fades out
John: Roman, you can't blame Marlena.
It's not her fault.
Marlena: I am at fault too.
Roman (to Sami): Sami, you go sit
with your grandparents. Sami turns around and Roman jumps to hit John.
Shawn and Caroline hold him and Marlena begins to cry again.
Marlena: Roman !
Roman (to his father): Let me go
!
Caroline: No, not in god's house.
Roman, no.
Roman stop fighting and calms down.
Shawn (to Caroline): I think it's
best if they had some time alone.
The reverend: I'll be in my office
if you need me.
Everybody leaves the church, except for Roman, Marlena and John.
The Scene Fades out
Roman (Firmly, to Marlena): I want
to hear about it.
Marlena: Oh, no...don't do this
to yourself.
Roman: I want to hear every detail.
I want to hear about the first time it happened, how many months this has
been going on.
Marlena sobs.
John: It wasn't months, Roman.
It wasn't anything like that.
Roman: It wasn't anything like
that, ha, John? What don't you tell me what it was like, old friend, old
buddy? You don't tell me what it was like sleeping with the wife of a man
who called you friend? why don't' you tell me, John? The man why asked
you to be the godfather of his child. You tell me.
John: I have mistaken and I never
felt worse.
Roman: You never felt worse, ha?
Don't you stand there and don't you even pretend to know what I am feeling
like. You are not the one who is betrayed. Let me ask you something, John.
Kristen...does she know about this? Does she know that you've sleeping
with my wife (he turns to Marlena and waves his hand and if to hit her.
she jumps and begins to cry again). Or did you manage to to keep it a secret
from the whole town except for poor Sami?
Marlena: No, no, no. Roman, it
wasn't anything like that. We never planed it, we never wanted it. Oh...(she
cries harder).
John: It's happened, Roman. It
just happened and I am so sorry.
Roman: you are sorry, are you John?
I am glad you are sorry, and I know what you are sorry. I know the reason
you are sorry. It's because the whole damn world knows about it now. that's
the reason you are sorry.
Marlena: Roman, Roman, This all
thing is SO complicated. All the feelings and all the emotions are so complicated.
Roman: No, they are not, Doc. They
are crystal clear to me. It's all very simple. The two of you betrayed
me. My friend...and my WIFE. You betrayed me. so the list you can do now,
Marlena, is tell me WHEN and WHERE. I need to know.
Marlena cried and can't get a word
out.
Marlena: RO...MA...N....
The Scene Fades out
silence.
Roman (in a bitter voice): Don't
you talk all at once.
Marlena: Roman, I want to go home.
I don't want to talk about this here.
Roman: Why not? They say confession
is good for the soul and what better place than here?
Marlena: Please don't of this.
It will just make it worse (tears streaming down her face).
John: She is right, Roman. What's
the point?
Roman: What's the point? You have
the audacity to ask me what's the point? You are having an affair with
my wife.
(he turns to look at Marlena):
My wife blurt up the news in front of all my friends in the middle of my
baby's baptism and I am not supposed to ask questions here? It's not fair?
Am I supposed to just sit back, turn my other cheek and say: hey, there
is no problem. that everything is fine?
Marlena: No, of course you are
not, of course you are not. (she tried to touch him but he turns away).
Roman: You lied to me. All those
months you were lying to me, sneaking around behind my back. I trusted
you. I trusted both of you.
John: Roman, I hate myself for
what happened here. I never meant to hurt you.
Roman (screaming at him): You never
meant to hurt me, John? What the two of you were thinking - that I would
never find out?
Marlena: No. We tried to protect
you.
Roman: Protect me why? Because
you "love" me so much?
Marlena cried: BECAUSE I LOVE YOU
SO MUCH.
Roman (screams louder): Well, certainly
not enough to keep your marriage vows and certainly not enough TO STAY
OUT OF HIS BED !
The Scene Fades out
Roman speaks to Marlena. John watches them from the corner of the room.
Roman: When I came here today for
my baby's baptism I really thought that all was right with the world, that
you and I had finally made it, that we definitely overcome all the evil
that Stephano has done to us. All the heartaches, the pain, all of this
was all behind us and life was beautiful for us again.
Marlena (whispers): They can be
beautiful...
Roman: Don't say that. Don't say
that to me (he turns away from her).
Marlena: Hoeny...Look at me...Please...(she
whispers).
Roman: I can't. And I don't want
to look at HIM. I have to get out of here.
He turn away to leave the church.
She jumps after him, trying to hold him and stop him from leaving but he
pushes her away.
Marlena: Roman, don't go, don't
go. ROMAN...
He stops for a second to look at
her. She looks at him and cries.
Roman: No, no, no...Let me tell
you something. Do you know what's really funny about all of this, really
funny? When Stephano Dimera first came back to Salem I put myself on guard
because I expected he would try to do something to us to try and wreck
out lives. I always thought that if there is any threat to our happiness
it would come from Stephano (Marlena closes her eyes with pain, he faces
filled with tears). I never dreamed that it would come from a man that
I called friend or the woman I thought was my wife.
He turns away and leave the church.
Marlena cries harder and can barley stand. Eventually she falls down on
her knees and look up and cries. John looks at her in pain and as the scene
fades out.
