The only way a person can make themselves better is by remembering where they've been. And if it sucked, not going there. Ever again. Welcome to Clarinetboy's spot, Greg's personal online experiment. The site was started way back in 1997, so by webstandards, it is getting kinda old. I really wish I knew the exact date, but at the time I started it, it was more like a joke, I didn't think it'd still be around this long. For any of you who have followed it's path, know I've tried to abandon it several times, only to find myself formulating some new design in the back of my head. It's become a part of me. It's where I share with the world my thoughts, hopes, dreams, frustrations. It's become a friend. It was started in this very spot. Well, back then, Geocities used longer addresses, but I digress. My friend Gibsonlespaul from the Loudhouse chat talked me into doing it. His exact argument escapes me. Thank you Gib! (btw, clarinets own you!). So it originally started as a midi archive, 'cuz I had an insane amount of RPG midi's on my computer. Eventually, I realized this was a pain in the bootay to maintain, so I had to do something else. It eventually became an rpg parody site, in which I talked about conspiracies running about in Final Fantasy III (I wish I still had those, some of those were hilarious). As I got older, and realized there are other things in life besides video games (yeah middle school!), the site evolved into focusing on myself more. The super duper abridged version is the video game parodies turned into video game shrines... which led to anime shrines... which led to rants... And the rants strangely enough became insanely popular. Everyone at school suddenly knew about them, and every time I'd walk into school, some random person would be asking me when I was writing another, or commenting on something I wrote. So I made lots of them.... some sucked, some were kinda classic. The rants became the main focus of my site, when I started playing with Photoshop. Finding quality anime wallpapers on the internet at the time was kinda difficult, so I started making my own. And at the request of several people, I started doing that seriously too. And around this time, I started reading the webcomic Bob and George. Upon seeing sprite comics, I was excited to try that too. Which pretty much brings me to today. Just recently, the site has been split into several smaller portions... because... it wasn't a site anymore. It was just a bunch of random things thrown together with the name "Clarinetboy's Spot" on it. so even today, after almost 5 years, it's still an experiment. New little HTML tricks, new little fads. And I imagine, it'll always be my experiment. The site has been on serveral different servers. Geocities, Crosswinds, back to Geocities, Buppytropolis.net, back to Geocities... probably some other places not springing to mind. As much as I hate geocities, I have to admit, their service is probably the most quality of the free services. So that was an ABRIDGED version of this site's history. Sadly, I never kept most of my original versions, so I have no pictures to look back on. But the vision in my head is still crystal clear. I still chuckle when I think what the site was, and what it is now. To this day, I have always created my own layouts and graphics, and have never blatently advertised myself. If someone wishes to link to me, I want it to be because they like the site, not because they have to, or I'm paying them.
