Grass Valley
Checklist-Walkthrough for Soul Blazer Area 1
HELPFUL HINTS
-It is almost easier to "crabwalk"/kill enemies for this area-Crabwalking is done by holding L or R while moving. Although it only drains 1 life at a time, it drains faster than swinging AND you can still move (though, don't rely on this forever-it only seems to be effective in Grass Valley and on bosses)
-Figure out which monster lairs release people-When you release someone, any undestroyed monster lair refills with monsters! Therefore you can get more experience (see example below).

Following this example, you should:
1) Take out any non-lair monster (fires, slimes, etc)
2) Take out an entire lair (that rescues a person!)
3) Take out all but ONE monster from each remaining lair (To find out how many are left you can either use a freeze-state save/load in an emulator, or eventaully we will post how many in each lair).
4) Step on the destroyed lair, releasing the person. (and also regenerating monsters for each remaining lair!)
5) Repeat 1-4 again for each remaining lair.
Note: This is done to maximize your EXP..while it isn't necessary, you can level up a lot faster by doing this (and no, this does NOT only apply to Grass Valley! You can do this anywhere.)
Note: Monster Lairs are listed as: Monster Lair: #/ # of monsters - single (1 monster at a time) or multiple (many at a time) - what it does
example: "Monster Lair #1 /4-s - free Soul of Magician, receive Flame Ball magic
This is the first monster lair in the game, it has 4 monsters that come out one at a time and it releases the Soul of the Magician.

Grass Valley highlands (town)
At the moment, the town is completely empty except for a single solitary tulip, so you should go on to the Underground Castle beneath the town and clear out some monster lairs first.

Also, while you're here, find the ivy you released earlier and go down into the Treasure Room. It contains two treasure chests (Iron Armor and 50 GEMs) and a blue jewel spirit who will give you some EXP. At this point, you must return to town again if you have not already done so after freeing Lisa, and talk to her (with the Dream Rod equipped because she is asleep) before you can proceed any further. You will find yourself in Lisa's Dream, which takes place in the Underground Castle (east) inside the part that was blocked off. There will appear to be a monster lair (that has already been cleared) nearby. Step on it, and it will open a path to the left of you, though it won't be of any use until you return to the real world when Lisa wakes up. Return to the Underground Castle (east) to the place you saw in Lisa's Dream; you can now reach that last monster lair and a treasure chest containing Leo's Brush.
Monster lair remaining: 0
Return to town and show the brush to Lisa, who will ask you to look for her father, Dr. Leo. Your next destination is Leo's Paintings, inside the large house at the north (upper) end of town. Equip Leo's Brush before approaching the painting and you will be dragged inside.

Grass Valley highlands recap
Once you have the Brown Stone that Leo told the Village Chief to give you, a new option to "Move" will appear at the yellow tile in the Grass Valley Shrine. At this point, you may go on to Greenwood, or you can explore the town further to make sure you didn't miss anything.
- There is a Medical Herb in the lower right corner of the goat enclosure fence; this is the something that the lonely goat saw.
- There is a sleeping tulip at the Southeast end of town.
- You can use the Dream Rod to enter the Tulip's Dream, where a blue jewel spirit will give you advice and offer to return you to town. This is also the only way to get out of the Tulip's Dream, since the tulip never wakes up.
- If you push the sleeping tulip aside, you can find A Pass underneath it. This is the pass that the boy in the house hid.
- A boy is blocking a path North of the Water Mill. Equip the pass before speaking to the boy to go through the Child's secret passage and come out on a ledge above town. You can find a Strange Bottle in the rightmost clump of grass there.
Go on to Area 2: Greenwood
