St. Elles

Checklist-Walkthrough for Soul Blazer Area 3

St. Elles Shrine

Seabed Sanctuary (town)

Once again, there's no one in town except for one mermaid statue. She tells you to go to the island of Southerta through the shrine and search for the Bubble Clothing(Armor) as no human can survive for long under the sea. Although your character is not really human (he came down to earth from the sky on a ray of light) but is currently in human form, and so needs to breathe just like regular people. Return to St. Elles Shrine and go into the newly opened blue warp tile on the left to reach the island of Southerta.

Southerta (Monster lairs: 14)

  • Monster lair - frees a dolphin
  • Monster lair - opens a path by creating a sandbar across the river, leading back to the blue warp tile. Unfortunately you still can't reach the lair to the right of it. However, circling around the trees to the left leads to a lair that you can reach, so go there and get the lairs in the center of those trees first.
  • Monster lair - opens path to island with another lair
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid. After this, backtrack then take the right path.
  • Monster lair - reveals 2 more lairs.
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair - opens a path by removing trees
  • Monster lair - reveals a treasure chest
    • Treasure chest - Medical Herb
  • Monster lair - opens path by removing trees
  • Monster lair - removes lots of trees, revealing another lair
  • Monster lair - removes the little pond, revealing another lair
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid (she asks if anyone needs the Bubble Armor)
Monster lair remaining: 1

Seabed Sanctuary (town)

A new building has appeared south of the blue warp tile, so go down there and get the Bubble Armor from the blond mermaid. Make sure you have the Bubble Armor equipped before trying to leave town through the south exit of this building, or else you'll drown (lose about 1 HP each second) in the sea. This same blond mermaid will also heal you if you speak to her when you're hurt. Also in the right side of this building, there is a treasure chest containing Mermaid's Tears. You'll need this item later on the volcanic island of Durean, so you might as well get it now, though you could wait until later if you want to.

Seabed of St. Elles [1] (Monster lairs: 10)

  • Monster lair - opens path (shortcut? it seems to just clear up the area around the entrance without really going anywhere that you couldn't already go)
  • Monster lair - opens path by creating stairs. Although once you go down those stairs, you'll run into a dead end; the path is still blocked by a stone with a fish design on it.
  • Backtracking, left of the entrance from the Seabed Sanctuary are some stairs leading up. Take these to return to Southerta, but this time you'll be inside the area you couldn't reach earlier, the part blocked off by trees.
Monster lairs remaining: 8

Southerta (Monster lairs remaining: 1)

  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid's statue (she will open a path for you when you speak with her)
Monster lairs remaining: 0

Seabed Sanctuary (town)

Speak with the mermaid statue you just released in Southerta, and she will remove the fish-stone that was stopping you from going further. Now you can set off for the Shore reef of Rockbird, via the Seabed of St. Elles.

Seabed of St. Elles [1] (Monster lairs remaining: 8)

Head left first for 2 lairs, then right as the mermaid statue told you to.

  • Monster lair - opens path on the left side
  • Monster lair - opens path (shortcut, it just goes back to the entrance) Next backtrack to the right, and head downwards.
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair - reveals another lair
  • Monster lair - opens path (shortcut back to the left) To the right are the stairs leading to the Shore reef.
Monster lairs remaining: 3

Shore reef of Rockbird (Monster lairs: 16)

  • Monster lair (furthest South-west) - removes water revealing another lair to the North
  • Monster lair (revealed by above) - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair (furthest South-east) - removes water revealing two treasure chests
    • Treasure chest (to right of above lair) - 60 GEMs
    • Treasure chest (to left of above lair) - Medical Herb
  • Monster lair (left of above lair) - removes water, revealing another lair to the left
  • Monster lair (revealed by above lair) - removes water, revealing yet another lair to the left of it
  • Monster lair (revealed by above lair) - frees a mermaid (I think this is the mermaid who will give you the Magic Flair spell, but you can't reach her yet because of the large gaps in the town.)
  • Monster lair (furthest North-east) - removes water, revealing another lair to the left
  • Monster lair (revealed by above lair) - removes water, revealing another lair (it may be covered by a monster disguised as a rock)
  • Monster lair (revealed by above lair) - removes water, revealing another lair to the left of this one... *sigh* isn't this getting boring and repetitious?)
  • Monster lair (revealed by above lair) - reveals 4 more lairs
  • Monster lair (SE revealed by above lair) - removes rocks blocking off SW lair
  • Monster lair (SW " ) - frees an Angelfish (Soul of Shield)
  • Monster lair (NW " ) - removes rocks blocking off NE lair
  • Monster lair (NE " ) - frees a Mermaid's Statue
  • Monster lair (furthest North-west in reef) - removes water so that you can reach the lair to the left of it
  • Monster lair - reveals blue jewel
    • Blue jewel spirit - gives some EXP, offers to return to town
Monster lairs remaining: 0

Seabed Sanctuary (town)

The mermaid statue you just released from Rockbird will open another path, this time downwards to the volcanic island, Durean. Before you head for Durean, make sure you get the Soul of Shield (Angelfish who enables you to avoid the "magma rain"[I think it would make more sense if it was volcanic ash, since magma is the molten rock still inside the volcano; once it comes out of the volcano, it's lava, not magma anymore.]) to join you. Also, if you intend to finish clearing Durean in one trip, make sure you have gotten the Mermaid's Tears from the chest at the right side of the building which exits town. Then head South-west along the seabed past the place where the fish-stone used to be.

Seabed of St. Elles [1] (Monster lairs remaining: 3)

  • Monster lair - frees a dolphin (who can carry you to a treasure chest, but you can't reach the dolphin yet because of all the gaps still in the town)
  • Monster lair - opens shortcut back the way you came
  • Monster lair - opens another shortcut back the way you came, and also reveals a blue jewel
    • Blue jewel spirit - gives you some EXP and offers to teleport back to town
Monster lairs remaining: 0

Durean (Monster lairs: 16)

The Soul of Shield will somehow prevent you from getting hit by the "magma rain" that falls from the sky onto this island. You may notice that when it lands away from you, it causes a small pillar of fire to burn for a while. This is what you would have had to be constantly avoiding if the Soul of Shield were not here to protect you. However, the Soul of Shield cannot protect you from the patches of lava on the ground, so you should still try to avoid stepping on those; you'll lose HP if you do step in the lava. The Soul of Light is also active here as well, although you don't really need the light to see since it isn't that dark.

  • Monster lair - frees the dolphin, Lue (but you can't reach Lue yet)
  • Monster lair - opens a path to the left, revealing another lair
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid (she will fill in part of the gaps in town, finally allowing you to reach: the mermaid who gives you the Magic Flair spell, the dolphin who carries you to a treasure chest containing the Big Pearl, and The Secret Cave where Lue is trapped, although you still can't reach Lue yet.. :-/ )
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair - reveals 2 more lairs
  • Monster lair (revealed below the above lair) - opens path to a treasure chest
    • Treasure chest - Strange Bottle
  • Monster lair (revealed above the lair described above) - opens path to another lair
  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair - opens a path by removing some large boulders (also a shortcut back to the entrance)
  • Monster lair - belongs to metallic rock-throwing monsters; return later after acquiring the appropriate sword.
  • Monster lair - frees a dolphin (who is coming to save Lue, you can now finally reach Lue and get the Thunder Ring)
  • Monster lair (in the middle of a patch of lava; you may want to wait until later for this one) - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair - opens path by creating stairs
  • Monster lair (in the far corner of a patch of lava; you may want to wait until later for this one) - frees a Mermaid's statue
  • Treasure chest (beyond a strip of lava; you may want to wait until later for this one) - Critical Sword
  • Monster lair - opens path by creating stairs (also a shortcut back to entrance)
  • Monster lair - creates stairs; circle back around to take the stairs up to a spot, where you can use the Mermaid's Tears to cool all the lava into stone, thus making it safe to go back and get the lairs and chest which were previously surrounded by lava.
Monster lair remaining: 1

Seabed Sanctuary (town)

The mermaid statue you just released from Durean will open another path up the seabed to the island of rain, Blester. If you intend to clear Blester in one trip, you should make sure you have spoken to Lue and gotten the Thunder Ring. The Magic Flair spell may also be useful, although not absolutely neccessary. Head North-east along the seabed past the place where the fish-stone used to be.

Seabed of St. Elles [2] (Monster lairs: 9)

  • Monster lair - frees an angelfish
  • Monster lair (to left of above lair, in a dead end) - frees a mermaid (gives you free Medical Herbs)
  • When you go up into the fast-moving one-way stream, try to come back down out of it twice for the following two lairs.
  • Monster lair - frees an angelfish
  • Monster lair - reveals blue jewel
    • Blue jewel spirit - gives you some EXP, and offers to return you to town
  • Monster lair - unblocks the stairs leading up to Blester
Monster lairs remaining: 4

Blester (Monster lairs: 9)

  • Monster lair - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair (to right of pyramid) - frees an angelfish
  • Monster lair - opens path
  • Monster lair (right fork, lower lair) - removes the wooden fences
  • Monster lair (right fork, upper lair) - frees a mermaid
  • Monster lair (left fork, upper lair) - removes the wooden fences
  • Monster lair (left fork, lower lair) - frees a dolphin (sleeping)
  • Monster lair (middle fork, right side) - reveals blue jewel
    • Blue jewel spirit - gives advice, offers to return to town
  • Monster lair (middle fork, left side) - frees a mermaid's statue
    • This lair has metal monsters; in order to defeat them (since you don't have the right sword yet) you need the Thunder Ring. Equip the Thunder Ring and lure the metal monsters towards the five small pyramids. When you touch (or get close enough to) a Lightning Pyramid with the Thunder Ring, lightning will strike, instantly destroying any monsters near it. Cool, huh? Too bad Blester is the only place where there are any Lightning Pyramids, those would have come in handy in other places with metal monsters... Oh, and there also seems to be a bit of recharge time for the lightning as well, which means that once lightning has struck, it won't be able to strike again for a couple of seconds.
Monster lairs remaining: 0

Seabed Sanctuary (town)

The mermaid statue just released in Blester will open a new path North-east along the seabed, which leads to a sunken ship. The boss of this area is there on that ghost ship. Back in the Secret Cave with Lue, if you use the Dream Rod on the sleeping dolphin, you can enter A Dolphin's Dream. If you equip the Big Pearl before speaking with the dolphin, he/she will move aside, allowing you to reach a cleared lair. Stepping on it will open a path, but the dolphin wakes up before you can go any further, and you find yourself back in the Secret Cave in town. However this will allow you to reach The Secret Cave later (from the Seabed) where you can find Emblem D, among other things.

Seabed of St. Elles [2] (Monster lairs remaining: 4)

  • Treasure chest (right at first fork) - Power Bracelet (doubles your attack power, very helpful)
  • Monster lair (left from same fork as above) - removes some lily pads, opening a path that lead left from the entrance
  • Monster lair (left from entrance) - frees an angelfish
  • Cave entrance (further left, must have previously entered A Dolphin's Dream and spoken to the dolphin with the Big Pearl equipped.)
    • The Secret Cave (Monster Lairs: 1)
      • Monster lair - reveals four chests
        • upper left chest - Emblem D
        • upper right chest - 80 GEMS
        • lower left chest - Medical herb
        • lower right chest - Nothing inside (what's the point of this anyways?? Is there some secret that I missed?)
  • Monster lair (back up and right from the fork) - frees a dolphin (sleeping)
  • Monster lair - reveals a blue warp tile (to St. Elles Shrine)
Monster lairs remaining: 0

A ghost ship (Monster lairs: 1)

  • Treasure chest - 1 GEM (don't bother trying to get this until after you've beaten the boss; do you really want to risk getting hit by fireballs or jumped by wormy things for a measly 1 GEM?)
  • Skull Master (Boss battle) Note: there is a safe spot in the left corner; if you stand there, you can hit the head and hands of the boss without getting hit yourself. See screenshot (to be added later)
  • Monster lair - frees the Queen
    • Get the Blue Stone from the Queen when you return to town; it will allow you to move to the Soul's Sanctuary from the St. Elles Shrine
Monster lairs remaining: 0

Seabed Sanctuary (town)

Speak with the Queen to receive the Blue Stone. Once you have it, you can go on to the Home of the Mountain Spirit immediately, or you can take a look around town first if you'd like. If you use the Dream Rod on the sleeping dolphin in the North-west house, you'll find yourself in Servas' Dream. It takes place on the sunken ghost ship where the boss was at, but you can't really do anything except watch and listen to the boy and his father. Servas says that he put 1 GEM into a treasure chest, which he hopes someone finds, and then the dolphin wakes up and you're back in his house again. Well, that explains the 1 GEM "treasure" on the ghost ship; apparently the (human) boy Servas was reincarnated as a dolphin after he died.
