Episode 1: Sakura's Rival (Aired 6/17/00)
This episode starts out with Sakura having another strange dream about a boy with cards flying around him. She awakes after Kero yells at her a few times. Sakura's brother, Tori (Touya), comes in to tell her that he's leaving in 10 minutes. It appears Tori is suspicious of Sakura and Kero because he heard her talking to someone and always stares at Kero. Kero must always act like a stuffed animal with other people around. Sakura hurries to school with her brother after saying goodbye to her dad. They meet up with Julian (Yukito), Tori's friend, and you can tell Sakura likes him a bit. At school, she's greeted by schoolmates, Rita (I think that's her new name) and Madison (Tomoyo). There's a surprise today at their school, there's an exchange student from Hong Kong! Why it's Li Syaoran. The teacher seats him behind Sakura. Sakura realizes that Li was the boy in her dream. Li walks by giving evil glares at Sakura making her feel uneasy. Madison tells Li that he sits in the seat behind her in a very 'Protecting your friend' way. Madison is really outgoing now. They cut to outside in the schoolyard near a fence where Li is chanting some incantation on his board and it shoots some light at Sakura which reveals she is the holder of the Clow Cards. Li tries to get them but Tori comes and jumps over the fence and saves and protects her. They are about to fight KUNG FU style when Julian jumps over with some food. When he goes to give one to Li, he gets all scared and runs away. He trips on a rock and falls into these plants then runs away again. When Sakura and Madison are walking home, they see these black clouds in the sky getting ready for a storm but there's no rain! They see this lightning bolt jump around causing havoc. Sakura goes back to Kero to tell him about what happened. Kero tells her that Li Syaoran is a descendant of Clow Reed, the maker of the Clow Cards and a very powerful sorcerer. Sakura thinks she should have given the cards to him since he is a descendant of Clow Reed but Kero explains why she was right not to. To open the Book of Clow requires some magical power and Sakura had it. Sakura found the book and she wrote her name on the cards meaning that they are hers. Madison calls and tells Sakura to look outside to see the lightning, they meet up and Sakura changes into an outfit that Madison made. The outfit is made out of some rubbery substance to repel the thunder. They chase after the Thunder card and then see Li. Li uses his sword and Lightning spell to fight it and return it to it's normal form. Sakura then uses Shadow to trap it and capture it. I think the card went to Li but it's not clear in this English Episode.. That's it!

Changes this episode:
The scene where Sakura is flashbacking to when Yukito (Julian) gave her a candy earlier that day and talking about it to Tomoyo (Madison) is cut out. This is after they enter school and before Rika (Rita) walks in.
The scene were Rika is looking at the teacher with loving eyes and the teacher is coughing as if he notices and awknowledges it is cut out.
Li's name written in Kanji/Chinese characters was erased from the board. So the stupid teacher is writing his name on the board with invisible chalk. Very handy for teaching!
After Li sits down and is introduced, there is another scene where they are in another classroom. Li is staring at Sakura again. This is cut out.
When school is out, Sakura and Tomoyo are walking home with Rika. Rika leaves and Tomoyo explains that she likes someone and is getting a birthday present for this guy. This is obviously cut out.
When Sakura uses her Shadow card against the Lightning Card, there are different background music and sound effects throughout all of this.
After Sakura captures the card, she goes to pick them both up and it shows both of them. The English version has different drawings for the cards.
When Tomoyo comes rushing in to see how Sakura's doing and passes Li, she doesn't say anything to him. The English Version added some more 'Madison Attitude.'
At the end of the episode in the English version, it shows the 2 cards: Shadow and Thunder and Sakura gives another line. In the Japanese version, this never happens.
