Alcatraz -- Track 7
    Follow these simple (well...sort of) instructions and you'll be soaring over the prison cells of Alcatraz in no time.

    Note: If you've already completed a circuit and have it saved to memory pak, you can bypass the codes below and skip straight to the four steps to obtain the track.

    First of all, you'll need to finish a circuit. To save you the time of doing that, Atari has included the circuit winning code as follows:

    Once you've done that, choose the option to continue circuit and then let the time run out while racing. After a quick congratulations screen (and the reward code for the Formula 1 car) you can get started.

    Alcatraz -- Track 7 (only allowed if you've finished a circuit, mind you)

    Note: To move between the car select screen, the track screen and the setup screen, use the A and B buttons.

    1. On car select screen: Hold C-Left, press Z, release both, press left
    2. On setup screen: Hold C-Up, press Z, release both, press up
    3. On track select screen: Hold C-Right, press Z, release both, press right
    4. On car select screen: Hold C-Down, press Z, release both, press down, L, R

    And voila -- you're Alcatraz bound.

    We've tried this code 50 million times based on these instructions and it works. Alcatraz will appear as Track 7 on the Track Select screen.

    Finally, a time-saver hint from Atari Games...

    If you have a memory pak you can cheat the system and save Alcatraz (track 7) as follows:

    1. Enter circuit code (above) to continue a circuit.
    2. Finish race/die/let time run out.
    3. Start a new game (without using a player -- to tell system you've completed a circuit).
    4. Go to the car select screen and enter first part of code.
    5. Back up to the setup screen and enter second part of code.
    6. Start a new game, this time selecting a Pak player.
    7. Go to car select screen and enter final part of code.
    8. Start game and track 7 is saved/enabled under current player.

    Note: there is no way to get the Formula 1 car saved on your pak without actually winning a circuit on that player.

The anticipated hidden track is finally here and you won't need a Gameshark to access it

Race tracks with special cars trick (w/o getting every key)
    If you have obtained the special cars on a particular track, you can trick the game into letting you use them on every track in the game.
    Go to circuit and make sure you start on the track that you gained the cars on. Press A to select a new circut -- if the track you see is not the track that you have earned the cars on, then press B. Repeat this process until the track comes up that you have. Select the special car of choice and you can race all the tracks with the special car.

 





Turn Off Track Textures
    From Setup Screen: Hold C-Right) and press L button. Release both and then press the Z trigger. Keep repeating the process for multiple different texture schemes, including a psychedelic mode.

Attempt to Resurrect in Place
    Setup screen: While holding Z press and hold C-Left then press C-Right. Keep holding Z and now press and hold C-Right, then C-Left

    Now when players crash they will be resurrected in place and not miles away.

A great code for those situations that require multiple attempts





No Game Timer
    This turns off the game timer in Rush, leaving the courses completely free to explore.

    Setup screen: While holding Z: Press and hold C-Down, then C-Up. Keep holding Z and press and hold C-Up, then C-Down

Say goodbye to the timer with this code





Drive the burning wreck
    At the car selection screen, hold C-up and press Z four times.
 





Fly up
    Turn on "attempt to resurrect in place" (hold Z, C-left, C-right, C-right, C-left) and the Auto-Abort Disable (C-up C-up C-up C-up). It is now possible to get very high into the air of tracks by hitting the resurrect key, then immediately holding brake. Repeat when your car stops blinking. This is very useful in acquiring certain keys.

 





Play tag
    For all you renters out there, here's a cool trick from the manual: Start a two-player practice game and hit the abort-button (C-Up) during the countdown. The second player will now b "it." Hit the other driver and he will be "it." Whoever is "it" when the time runs out loses.
 





Drive the Formula 1 Car
    You have to beat all 24 races in the Circuit mode first with a ranking of second place or better. Now go to the track select screen and press the Z-Button four times (Z, Z, Z, Z). You should hear a horn. You can now choose the car at the car selection screen.
    Note: You can't have all three extra cars at once. You can only choose the Formula 1 racer or the Hotrod at once unless you turn off the code by entering it again.
 





Secret Tunnel
    Level 2: Drive through the course as usual until you come to the free-way overpass that can be jumped. Now, instead of jumping down to the road beneath angle the car so that it is going from right to left. If you go off the free-way just right you'll fly across the gap to the other side of the freeway where a secret loop and two keys await.
Once you've made it you'll be treated to a red loop of endless possibilities





Papy Land
    Papy Land (named after the track's creator, Midway's Todd Papy), a secret stunt course hidden in track 6, is located at the bottom of one of the many mountains in the level. To find it, follow the pathway which passes a white citadel (at top of mountain) and then leads into the dirt path which, if taken wrong, can send cars barreling over the edge of the cliff. Papy Land is located directly over the mountain's cliff facing away from the citadel. It's at the bottom of the mountain right next to the ocean, so be careful making the trip down.
Inside the secret cave is Papy Land, an immense setup of jumps, loops and walls





Auto-abort Disable
    At the Setup screen: C-Up, C-Up, C-Up, C-Up (quickly)
No more annoying pick-me-ups where they aren't welcomed





Change Back Tire Size
    From car select screen: Press and hold C-Right, then C-Left. Now press and hold C-Left, then C-Right. Repeat the code to select the size you want.
The back tires can change in size, ranging from tiny to gigantic





Change Front Tire Size
    From car select screen: Press and hold C-Left, then C-Right, Now press and hold C-Right, then C-Left
Look at the size of those!





Change Gravity
    From Setup screen: Holding Z, press UP, Down. Then let go of Z and press UP, DOWN, UP DOWN

    Gravity can be changed again and again by repeating the process.

Who says you need a cape to fly?





Change Viewing Distance
    Hold L and press up or down on the control pad.
You can zoom so far out that your car turns micro





Cycle Random High Score Names
    At the Fast Times or Best Laps records screens, hit: L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R.

    Now the computer generated names will be cycled around.

OK, so this one probably isn't going to impress your friends, but hey, you take the boring with the exciting





Disable Car Collisions
    From Setup screen: LEFT, RIGHT-(C-Right), C-Up, C-Left, C-Down, Z

    Now you can drive right through an opponent.

Right through the bus





Enable Foggy Night
    At the options screen during gameplay select 'extreme fog' with all four C buttons held down. This will give gamers the impression of playing through races at night.
Try playing through the courses at night for more challenge





Fog Color
    At the car select screen hold Z and press C-Down, C-Down, C-Down.

    This code changes the color of the fog in the game.

This looks more like LA Rush





Turn Car into Mine
    Note: All cones show up as mines, too.

    If car is a mine and runs into another vehicle it will blow up.

    From car select screen: C-Right, C-Right, Z, C-Down, C-Up, Z, C-Left, C-Left

Turning your car into a vehicle of death and destruction





Change Car Size
    From car select screen: C-Down, C-Up, C-Up, C-Down (quickly)
This code allows players to change the size of their driving machine





Drive the Cab
    Acquiring half the keys on any course in a regular race will unlock the cab. Note: Keys can be saved using the memory pak. Six to eight keys are hidden in each track. Hidden cars are exclusive to the track in which they have been unlocked.
Acquiring half the keys in a regular race unlocks the secret cab





Drive the Hot-rod
    Acquiring all the keys on any course in a regular race will unlock the hot-rod. Note: Keys can be saved using the memory pak. Six to eight keys are hidden in each track. Hidden cars are exclusive to the track in which they have been unlocked.
Once all they keys for a course are obtained the hotrod is unlocked





Turn Cones into Mines
    From Setup screen: L, R, L, R, L, R (quickly).

    This code turns all the cones in San Francisco Rush into huge mines that blow up anything that touches them.

Better watch out for those mines. Unless, of course, you don't mind exploding in a fiery death





Turn Tracks Upside-down
    From Setup screen: Up, Right, Down, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left.

    This code enables players to race the game upside down.

Players will no longer have to stand on their heads to play Rush upside-down
