In Comparison:

  • One zealot (no upgrades) will (should) kill 3 attacking marines, 4 zerglings or 2 hydras (w/out upgrades).
  • Zealots can defeat dragoons (1 on 1)
  • Zealots can defeat Goliaths (1 on 1)
  • Zealots kill ultras when attacking 2 zealots per ultra (many zealots'll live)- much more effective in large groups as well.
  • Effective Uses:

  • The protoss have an ass-kicking first attack unit. Use it! Follow a fast build order and rush 'em. Marines, zerglings and even hydras fall easy prey to zealots. 3-4 gateways are a must.
  • When attacking, they can take some damage without a problem. Use them to take our certain targets or to run at an enemy mineral line.
  • When done correctly, zealots alone can stop any zerg player from going for mutas. Make them fight on the ground where you have an advantage!
  • Great on defense as well. Put 'em by a shield battery and you'll think they'll live forever!
  • They're still great in mid-game. They take down dragoons and golaiths without much of a problem. In groups, they can even take out large numbers of siege tanks by running right up to them (speed upgrade helps a lot).
  • In general, you should always have zealots. Their power and "cheap" cost (for protoss) makes them very cost efficient at all points in the game. They should always be the bulk of your attack forces.
  • Good when used with...

  • Dragoons. Send in the zealots to wipe out the troops and the dragoons will mop up buildings.
  • Reavers. The ultimate ground strike force!
  • Templar. Psi storm units and destory the buildings with zealots.
  • Scouts. Zealots=ground superiority, scouts=air superiority.
  • Shuttles. Shuttle-drop some zealots into a mineral line- or anywhere where they might be needed in a hurry.
  • Arbiters. Recall a large group of zealots behind enemy lines.
  • Overall, zealots compliment most all protoss units.
