As you all probably know, Animorphs is a book series about five teens and one alien who are the only force that is preventing alien parasites from enslaving humanity. That was a long sentence! They have the power to change their DNA into that of animals that they have already 'acquired'.
There is Jake, the leader of the motley band.
Marco, Jake's best friend, the groups realist and comedian.
Cassie the tree hugger, supplier of morphs and Jake's unofficial girlfriend.
Rachel, the psycho one who happens to be Jake's cousin and Cassie's best friend.
Tobias, the nothlit or person who is trapped in morph, the hawk and unofficial boyfriend of Rachel, and finally Ax, the only free andalite on earth, and the Animorphs source of intersteller knowledge.
These six are up against the Yeerks, a parasitic race similar to a slug. In their natural state, they are blind and about two inches long, but the Yeerk's have a terrifying ability. They can enter the host's head through its ear canal and flatten their body around the host's brain. Once connected, they seize control. They can access the dendrites to open the host's memories. They control its body's movements. But the host is not dead or unaware, it can still think, is still alive. The pathetic creature is confined to its brain, and can see through its eyes what the Yeerk makes the body do. The host can 'talk' to the yeerk, and it can respond if it wants. Most hosts scream and rebel when first taken, but day after day, as they see that no one that they love realizes that they are being controlled, except for other yeerks, they lose hope. But Yeerks do have a weakness. On their home planet, their sun had radiated what are known as kadrona rays, so every three days, they leave the host for a small period of time to swim in what appears to be a pool while they absorb artificially created kadrona. One of the worst things is that the Yeerks are not using force to take over, at least not yet, they infest humans in secret. And since a Yeerk can access all of the human's memories, it fools all of their loved ones into believing nothing has happened. The Yeerks have a front organization called The Sharing. It sounds like a fun club for all ages to join, and the 'full members' get numerous benefits. So when the potential is deemed ready, it is taken down to the Yeerk pool and infested. The Yeerks have already enslaved many races entirely, and only the Animorphs can stop them.
