Welcome to the Journal of Now and Forever. This Journal is a collection of my Star Control and Star Control 2 fiction. Note: Some of this material is, by necessity, extrapolation from the slim information provided by canon sources.

New fiction is posted first at My Livejournal before it appears here. This story is in response to 15 Minute Ficlets' Challenge #25.

Never Forgive, Never Forget

[momentary background hiss of ship noises]

It's me again, as if you couldn't tell – I mean, who else is gonna send you messages from space? At least, I'd better be the only one sending you messages from space. Can't tell you specifically where we are, of course, although it's not that hard to figure out. At least, not for spacers. Ah, forget it – let me just get to the point.

We dropped off – damn, I don't think I can tell you the ship names here – anyway, we dropped off a couple ships en route, to go investigate other star systems, that kinda thing. Mine's still in the fighter wing, but I don’t know if we'll be continuing on to Earth or not. There's some talk about, y'know, vengeance and stuff.

Ooh, like I wouldn't know anything about that! That's what I like about you, Lynn – you understand me and that I can't forgive the Earthlings for what they did to us. I know, I know, we can't do anything right now, probably not for a long time. But oh, when we can, I'm gonna be in the front lines. I didn't become a gunner to plink away at asteroids, har!

Anyway. Word is that anyone with a real gripe against the Earthlings is gonna get watched very closely, because we don't want to start a war, just see what they're up to. And there's noise about a special mission, too, although for the life of me I can't figure out what it could be. Unless we had a huge horking bomb to drop on them, which we don't, and any bomb that big would probably take out the ship delivering it too.

I do know the captains've already looked around for anyone with "Earthling sympathies," to make sure nobody got the bright idea to try to make contact with our old masters again. I have no idea how any of us could feel anything positive for those bastards, but it takes all kinds. As far as I know, nobody felt that way – sympathetic, I mean. Which is a good thing, y'know?

Well, I better wrap this up so it can get sent back with the rest of the transmissions. Don't know when you'll hear this, of course, and it'll probably get listened to and maybe censored, though I can't think I've said anything that matters in a military sense. But hey, what do I know.

Don't know when I'll get another chance to record anything, but things are going well so far and it shouldn't be any trouble just to nose around Sol system and spy on our former oppressors. Nah, I'm not bitter at all, am I? [laughter] If we do run into trouble, though, I'll bag an Earthling for ya.

...How do I shut this thing off? Damn first-generation –

[disconnect]
