Rin Nadow Lojm Class Monitor
RPG Stats and Background by: Rick R. Mortis.
BACKGROUND
The Zentraedi monitor, or Rin Nadow Lojm as the Zentraedi call it, was created to forfill a specific role in the Zentraedi fleets. The Robotech Masters posessed a tremendously powerful wepon; the Reflex Cannon. Unfortunately, they had very few ships designed to carry such weaponry. While the Nupitent-Verigntiz class flagship carried this weapon, the ship was way to expensive for mass-production.
The result of the program was the Monnitor. At just over 1200m long, the The ship was the second smallest in the fleet (only larger than the Scout). It carried relatively few mecha and a relatively small arnament, but it's Reflex Cannon made it an invaluable asset. The Cannon itself was modeled along the same "bow split" design as the cannon on the larger flagship, giving the Monitor a long, somewhat stretched appratance resembling the bow portion of the Queodel Magdomilla class command ship.
Initially, Monitors were only assigned to large fleets under the command of trusted senior officers. Dolza and the Masters considred it too dangerous for potentially untrustworthy commanders (such as Khyron) to use this ship. Later, as the Zentraedi fleet's resources began to deplete, the ships were all re-assigned to a special fleet under the personal command of Lord Dolza. These ships were used in the Zentraedi assault on Earth, and accounted for the majority of Damage done to the planet. Most of them were destroyed in the counterattack by the SDF-1 and Breetai's fleet. A few survived and were either scrapped or used for components for the REF's fleet.
The other infamous moment in this ships history wahs when Khyron used one in his final Attack on Macross Coty. The ship's main gun was by this point nearly inoperable, although it did do enough damage to destroy the SDF-2 with a single hit. The ship was crippled by the SDF-1's main gun, and destroyed when it rammed the SDF-1 minutes later.

NOTES:
- Depleting the MDC of the forward section means that the forward third of the ship has been destroyed. This includes the main cannon and the command centre. Nothing on the ship, including life support, engines, and weapons will work, l;eaving the ship a floating wreck.
- Depleting the MDC of the main engines will force the ship to rely on its
secondary engines. Depleting the MDC of the main engines AND secondary
engines will leave the ship adrift in space. If in an atmosphere, the
ship will crash (destruction of the main engines will render the
antigravity system useless due to loss of power).

WEAPON SYSTEMS:
Reflex Cannon: A smaller version of the incredibly destructive wepon found on the Zentraedi Flagship, and similar (but less powerful) to the SDF-1's main gun. To fire, the monitor needs 5 minutes (20 rounds) to power up, then one minute (four rounds) before it can fire. When ready, the front of the ship opens up like a monsterous jaw, with energy crackling between the two booms. The weapon destroys anything in its path.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Heavy Assault
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Warship
- RANGE: 320,000 km by 2km wide. (Half range in atmosphere)
- DAMAGE: Destroys EVERYTHING in its path, regardless of MDC and
movement. The only way to avoid obliteration is to avoid being in the
path of the beam! If used against a planet, the beam causes
3D6x1,000,000 MD (!), leaving only a radioactive crater 1D6x10 miles
long and 3D6x100 feet deep. The resulting shockwave will also cause
substantial damage to surrounding terrain for an additional 1D6x5
miles from the edge of the crater. (Note: A sufficiently
strong force field can deflect/absorb the beam if necessary. Examples
of such fields include multiple pinpoint barrier shields layered on
top of each other.
A force field must have AT LEAST 20,000 MDC capacity before
it can resist a heavy particle beam of this magnitude.)
- RATE OF FIRE: Once per 8 minutes (32 melees).
- PAYLOAD: Effectively Unlimited, but limited to five times per hour.
- Thirty Retractable Laser Turrets are scattered across the ship. The cannons are nomally concealed within the ship's hull, but rise up when needed to attack the enemy. Each turret can rotate 360 degrees with a 180 degree arc of fire.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault/Defence
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Warship
- RANGE: 320,000km (Half in an atmosphere)
- DAMAGE: 1D4x100 M.D. each
- RATE OF FIRE: Each turret can fire twice per melee
- PAYLOAD: Effectively unlimited.
- Thirty Missile Turrets are scattered across the ship. The turrets are nomally concealed within the ship's hull, but rise up when needed to attack the enemy. Each turret can rotate 360 degrees with a 180 degree arc of fire.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-Aircraft
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Warship
- MISSILE TYPES: Any type of Long Range Missile can be used. Reflex missiles are commonly used to avoid hitting friendly aircraft.
- RANGE: Varies
- SPEED: Varies
- DAMAGE: Varies
- BLAST RADIUS: Varies
- RATE OF FIRE: Each turret can fire one missile once per melee
- PAYLOAD: Effectively unlimited (hundreds of missiles)
- Twenty Torpedo Tubes are located along the sides of the ship. The tubes launch boosted long-range missiles that fire straight ahead, but have a longer range and faster flight speed.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-Warship
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Aircraft
- MISSILE TYPES: Any type of Long Range Missile can be used. Reflex missiles are commonly used to avoid hitting friendly aircraft.
- RANGE: Varies, but 50% longer and faster than listed.
- SPEED: Varies
- DAMAGE: Varies
- BLAST RADIUS: Varies
- RATE OF FIRE: Each tube can fire one missile once per melee
- PAYLOAD: Effectively unlimited (hundreds of missiles)
SYSTEMS OF NOTE:
- ANTIGRAVITY PROPULSION SYSTEM: The Monitors are
equipped with an anti-gravity propulsion system used for planetary landings
and liftoffs. The system is good for vertical ascent/descent only and can
lift the ship at speeds of up to 1,320 feet (400 m) per minute. The system
will function so long as the main engines can supply energy to it.
- HYPERSPACE COMMUNICATIONS: Based on the same technology as the
space fold system, the hyperspace communications relay allows
faster-than-light communication between the monitors and other
vessels or planetary bases. Hyperspace communications are still not
instantaneous, however. Audio/video communication travels through hyperspace
at a rate of about 5 seconds per light year, so messages communicated over
vast distances can still take days, weeks, or months to arrive.
- LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS: The monitors have sufficient life
support to provide breathable air and comfortable temperatures for 2,000 full-sized Zentraedi
people for up to 12 years (air is recycled). In an emergency the life support
system can support up to 3,000 people at one time, though living conditions
onboard will get extremely cramped at that point.
- LONG-RANGE LASER/SATELLITE RELAY COMMUNICATIONS: The impressive
communications array of the Monitor can communicate with up to 1,000
craft simultaneously at ranges of up to 900 miles (1,440 km). This range can
be boosted indefinitely by using satellites or other spacecraft as to relay
communications.
- LONG-RANGE RADAR: The radar array of the monitor is equally
as impressive as the communication system, and can track and identify up to
2,000 craft simultaneously. The radar system has a 2,000 mile/3,200 km range.
- SPACE FOLD SYSTEM: For FTL propulsion, the battleship is
equipped with a Shik-Telnekulla fold system cluster Fold System. The range of
the fold drive is theoretically unlimited except by the life expectancy of the
spacecraft.
- SUBLIGHT ENGINES: As a backup to the Fold System, the battleship is equipped with a Geteulmaqulla-Zollia monopolar-induced gravitic space-time distortion drive that can
propel the craft at speeds up to 0.001 speed of light
in space. Note that these engines are mainly intended for rapid movement
inside a planetary system and are not suited for long voyages between star
systems. In a planetary atmosphere the carrier is limited to subsonic speeds
maximum due to hull stress.
- SUBSPACE MASS SENSORS: The Monitors are equipped
with subspace sensors, which are based on the same principles as the
hyperspace communications array. These sensors can essentially instantly
detect mass readings and movement of objects up to 1 AU (93 million miles)
distant from the carrier, and the readings are used both for early warning and
for navigation when travelling at sublight speeds. Readings taken with the
subspace sensors are not very detailed (-25% penalty when trying to identify a
detected object) and cannot detect objects of less than 60,000 kg (this
includes most mecha).
OPTIONAL MACROSS II BACKGROUND:
Even though the Gunship (Macross name for the Monitor) is not seen in Macross II, it is likely that the UN Spacy Forces posess some in their fleets (especially when you consider how many of them were seen in SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love?). Certainly, the Firepower of this ship would be useful to the UN Spacy. If the GM decides to use this ship in a macross II campaign, I would reccomend the following changes:
Crew:
- Ship's Crew (450 total)
- Zentran and Meltran (Full Size) 300
- Human Pilots: 150
Mecha Compliment:
- 105 VF-2SS SAP Valkyrie II
- 2 Light Artillery Pods
- 6 AJA-1JF Jets
- 2 VF-2JA Icarus (in Storage)
- 2 VC-079 (Recon Version)
- 38 Zentran Power Armour (Old Type)
- 45 Meltran Power Armour (Old Type)
- 20 Battle Pods (Old Type)
- 9 Officer's Pods (Old Type)
- 2 Shuttles
- 20 Human Hover platforms
- 20 Zentran Hover platforms
Designers Notes
Japanese Name: Gunship Super Dimensional Fortress Macross
Episodes Seen in: #27, #35, #36
Conversion Notes
The info on the Gunship is limited to its breif appearance in the footage and some very sketchy information. The Macross II version is purely hypothetical on my part (although I see no reason why not to use it).
