Underdark weather: Dank and musty LETTER TO THE EDITOR From: Mynara I must say that I found your article on PVP an interesting bit of reading, not nearly as interesting as the controvery following it, but interesting none the less. I would have comments on the following points and make a few contributions as well...
Yathrin Mynara Faen Tlabbar Seeress of House Faen Tlabbar 2nd Drow House (Editor's Note - Casting of confusion in PvP in V2 is not a TOS violation (it was a violation in V1) ![]() LORD ZOR'AKs TRAINING CENTER (Part 3) So, you wanna PvP. You've got the will, you've got the urge...so how do you start? Well, there are many ways to start PvP. First off, you MUSTMUSTMUST be in an official PvP area. If you are not sure which areas are PvP and non-PvP, the Adventurers journal has the Official NWN area designations listed for you. Now, once you are in a PvP area, how do you find a foe? The easiest way to start a PvP is to walk up to a KAAOSer or an ITB and call him/her a wuss! ;D Heheheheheh seriously tho, here are some things to consider. There are 2 basic ways in which PvP will happen. 1-You start it. 2-Someone else starts it. Here is a sample scenario: [You are happily walking thru Triboar, on the way to get your ticket. You fight the giants at the entrance to Triboar under. You have most of them dealt with. But then!!! Then!!! Somebody enters your combat and starts casting on you!! This scenario is the most dangerous type of PvP to be in. Usually, you are not properly prepped for PvP, and your opponent is. Your opponent also gets the first cast on you. It is difficult to survive a well planned ambush. So, on the other side of the coin.... [You are happily walking through the Woods on the way to a Drider fight for some goodies. When you get there, someone else is already fighting. Chuckling evilly to yourself, you completely prep yourself and enter the combat. Upon entering, you gleefully cast your spells to and fro on the hapless adventurer(s).] This is the easiest type of PvP to win. You are fully healed/rested/prepped, while your opponent is wounded/low on spells/not ready to PvP. Both of the above scenarios are generally termed "Jumping" or "ambushes". Here is another type of PvP... [You are in Llast, travelling through. You come across an antagonist (OGS/ITB/SA whoever you don't like or who doesn't like you). There is some IC witty banter thrown about, and the decision to "do it" is reached. Both of you prep, and one of you starts the fight.] This is the "most fair" type of PvP around. Head to Head, Toe to Toe. This is also the "Arena" style of PvP. There are several areas around NW where you can continually generate fights on command. These areas are known by most veteran PvPers. Also, certain planned encounters are sometimes staked out by PvPers. The Troll bridge in the West Central Woods (just inside the gate) was a gathering place of sorts by the ITBs. They would stand one square away from the fight location and wait for a party of adventurers to pass through. When the fight started, they would wait for a little while (to make sure the fight was well underway), prep, and enter. Using this tactic, they attempted to deny access to the entire region of the woods. There are many variations on these themes. Sometimes you can come to the aid of an "in progress" PvP... sometimes tempers flare in combat...the possibilities are many. So now you have found an opponent....are ready to fight...but what next? Tune in next time kids.... Future topics will include: proper prepping, spell choices in combat, group PvP, how to win when outnumbered, "jumping" opponents, what to do when feebed and more! ![]() GOSSIP CORNER Hmmm....TOS violations have flown from several of the Drow...will anything come of them? The Houses are growing. The charter is nearing completion. Is sanctioning around the corner? We all hold our breath for the happy day ;> Ack...but who wants to move in next to the KAAOS hole :P There is a major controversy brewing over the new Sanctioned Arena. Check out the massive discord over it in the events boards. hey!....did the password change again? Many of the Drow elders have the sewers and the island mapped. Younger members are clamoring for these maps to be released to all drow....but will the elders give up the fruits of their own labors? Or would they have the young ones pay their dues, and map the areas themselves? The disappearance of Atlantus has raised some questions in theTOL community. Perhaps his disappearance is linked with the sudden appearance of a particularly nasty drider in the woods....film at 11. The LC newsroom has recently been fortified with sandbags and improved defensive positions. When asked if these preparations were in response to an increase in death threats, Zorak Lylyl the editor of LC had this to say: "Get that &%^#$ camera out of here! No comment! No comment!" ![]() DROW OF THE WEEK ::still waiting for those bios:: ![]() FOOD FOR THOUGHT "You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you!"
