Details about the campaign
The Setting
The campaign is set 30 years later than the present Lastaria timeline
in the country of Erland where times are somewhat darker. There is no King
on the throne of Erland, civil war had spread throughout the country which
ultimately caused the death of the last King. The country has now settled
and a ruling council governs the countries affairs until a new King can
be found.
The Start
The campaign started with three young heroes trying too save a village
from the ravages of a pack of wolves. Only one survived a young Ronic woman
called Anya, a Priestess of Idun. She eventually met up with other adventurers
and set about going on Adventures. They got themselves in several dangerous
situations with bandits and Formorions The group saw several deaths and
members leaving yet soon they got a stable membership.
Of some of the new members who had joined were Sir Erlmarc, a
warrior gallant who's heart was good and he seeked too do good in the land.
He also had a weakness and that weakness was women. Divina, a bard of some
potential, who also liked to flirt with Sir Erlmarc, Evina, a cleric
of the Holy Order of the Oak, she became infatuated with Sir Erlmarc at
one of his performances for he was also a poet. Evina followed him where
he went so she soon found herself involved in the group. At first she mainly
put her healing talents too use with Sir Erlmarc but soon was doing it
for the whole group. And Anya’s brother a powerful Ronic warrior who was
very protective of his sister and the heir to the leadership of his tribe
back in Ronayer.
The group started too establish themselves a name as they carried out
more tasks such as putting a stop too supernatural forces plaguing an old
miners town and traveling too Saradown seeking an the second half of an
artifact. Along the way they picked up a young Paladin called Sir David
who was a great believer in Justice and good, though mostly a quiet man
he always spoke his mind when he thought the cause was just. He also tracked
down evil magic users to bring too justice.
The offer
It was whilst traveling that a lycanthrope got scent of the party,
he was intrigued by the potential of the party as allies. He approached
Sir Erlmarc offering to change him and make him lycanthrope but was flatly
refused he then unbeknown too her friends approached Anya who’s culture
venerated the wolf. She cautiously agreed and soon found the spirit of
the beast within her.
She later found out the lycanthrope who made her this way represented
a group bent on dominating mankind, the spirit would have dominated her
had it not been for the intervention of a Werewolf with benign intentions
towards mankind. He took her too his village deep within Farral forest
where other of his kind resided and taught her how to deal with the beast
within her.
Lycanthropes Lair
As time went on the party found themselves in more dangerous situations,
at one time Anya, Sir Aelmarc and Sir David went up too a village in the
Northeast of the country which had several strange inhabitants, (What Sir
David and Sir Aelmarc did not know was that Anya had steered them there
because it had a group of Werewolves working against mankind.) they soon
uncovered the work of several Lycanthropes and set about trying too destroy
them. They combated several before finding out the lair and were ready
the next day too set out and hunt the rest down. That night however the
lycanthropes had over plans they vowed too destroy the trios most experienced
warrior, Sir Erlmarc and an assassin hid under his bed that night. The
creature stabbed up into him using a poisoned blade and severely injuring
him. It had not expected him too live but soon found itself confronted
by the now agitated warrior, they fought long but finally the assassin
gained the upper hand, he was about to perform the killing blow when Sir
Erlmarc companions entered the fray and manages to deal with the assassin.
The next day Sir Erlmarc was nursed back too health with priestly aid and
the companions set off too deal with the lycanthropes.
They soon found the lair and quickly dealt with many of the Werewolves,
scaring off the others. However what they had not expected was the presence
of a Vampire. They attempted too slay the Vampire but were unsuccessful
and the creature escaped. They found in the now empty lair a powerful magical
dagger used for slaying Vampires that the werewolves possessed and it was
then that Sir Erlmarc vowed to seek out and slay the unnatural bloodsuckers.
Homeward Bound
Grave news reached the ears of Anya and her brother. Their village
had been attacked and many of the warriors lay dead. They gathered the
party together and traveled back too their homeland. There they found their
village in chaos. The chief (their father) was on his death bed and made
his son promise to track the creature which had attacked the village down
and destroy it. And with that he died. They tracked it through the wilderness
and engaged it in combat, the fray was a fast and furious one and in the
end the creature lay dead, but so alas was Anya’s brother carried off in
the arms of a Valkryr.
Anya’s Departure
Anya returned to the Lycanthrope village where she had learned how
to control her abilities with Sir Erlmarc by her side. Sir Erlmarc still
didn’t know her secret and she simply told him that she had connections
with the lycanthropes there. Sir Erlmarc soon started to become suspicious
of her and on their return to civilisation he confronted her with his suspicions
that she was herself a Lycanthrope. She denied it and there was great unease
between the two. Eventually Anya announced she was leaving the group to
Sir Erlmarc surprise.
The Hunters Hunted
Sir Erlmarc and his companions including a new companion Lady Teleri
a noble warrior wizard who they had saved from the clutches of a demon
decided it was time too start hunting down Vampire kind. They tracked one
down that lived in the wilderness and engaged in combat. The combat was
long and the heroes lives were greatly endangered, eventually however they
managed to defeat their foe. Many lessons were learned that day and Lady
Teleri started research on spells that would better enable them to defeat
Vampires in the future.
They soon discovered Vampire activities in the city of Vordurn and
traveled down there. They combated several Vampires and Sir Erlmarc showed
his compassion when they discovered a child who had been infected. His
friends had wanted too slay the young Vampire yet he refused. Taking the
child down to the Holy Order of the Oak he was blessed when a single acorn
fell from its branches. Placing it upon the boys chest it was soon absorbed
and the boys humanity returned. Sir Erlmarc saw this as the gods blessing
his work and placed the boy in the care of some priests.
At one point Sir Erlmarc was approached by an unusually ally. Lord
Valerious, the ruler of an Isle and himself a Vampire offered advice and
aid. He only wished for Sir Erlmarc to be just when deciding the fate of
a Vampire for he pointed out that not all were evil and some fed through
use of volunteers. Valerious then went to tell him about a great and powerful
Vampire known as the Patriarch who was said to be the oldest Vampire in
existence. Sir Erlmarc vowed to find the Patriarch and slay him and Valorous
told him that he would find three allies that he would not have expected
when it comes to the time. But one of them would ultimately betray him.
The first of the three he met was Allister the Black a Necromancer
of immense power. The second was a being known as the Shadow Rider or Shadow
Lord a grim warrior who strove too wipe out Undead yet was suspected of
being Undead himself. He was also known to show no mercy. The third was
yet too be known
The groups work continued and more Vampires fell before them. The Vampires
of the city rallied and gave the heroes good warning when they slayed the
inhabitants of an Inn in which the heroes had been staying yet still the
heroes continued discovering the whereabouts of a much more powerful Vampire
and leader within their organisation. The heroes attacked but were beaten
off and forced into retreat. The Vampires decided that a new message must
be sent.
Legacy of Heroes (Of Beowulf and the Wrym)
Sir Erlmarc awoke as he hit the ground. He was under attack. He discovered
himself in the wilderness at night with no equipment and three Vampires
ready too engage him in combat. He quickly ran but they soon caught him
and he valiantly fought them but was soon overcome.
His companions only realised he had disappeared after several days.
Using magic they discovered his body within the castle of Lord Valerrious
and traveled there not knowing what to expect. When they arrived they were
greeted by the Lord who explained that Sir Aelmarc had been attacked by
the Vampires and left for dead. When the Vampires left another individual
came and took the soul from his body before Valerious could reach him.
Lord Valerious had his body in stasis but the would need to return his
soul. They tracked it down to Ronayer in an ancient underground lair and
they discovered that the person who had taken the soul was a powerful entity
known as the Raven. They eventual managed to overcome the complexes guardians
and find his soul though the Raven was no-where to be found.
Sir Erlmarc now back with the group a new threat grabbed the groups
attention. An ancient Wyrm had arisen and decimated a village. The heroes
vowed to find away to stop it and began the journey too its lair. On the
way they came into contact with an individual known as the Ancient. He
told each of them had the reincarnated soul of a great being in the past
and would inherit a Legacy from their past. He told Sir Erlmarc that he
had once been Beowulf but the others he said would have too wait too find
out who they once were. Before they left he released within Sir Erlmarc
the great potential he had had as Beowulf and said it would last until
the Wyrm or he himself was slain. he traveled on with companions and entered
the lair of the Wyrm. The creature was immense, a great serpent over 500
feet in length. The battle was great for the beast blasted forth a great
breath of fire engulfing the party. Yet they fought on. Sir Aelmarc strength
urged on his companions and in the end the Warm lay dead and the party
knew so would have they if it had gone on much longer.
The Raven
Several weeks went by.
Lady Teleri received a letter from an old childhood friend of hers
Robert of Ness who was a Sarak ambassador to Aladaer. The letter asked
for her and her companions to travel urgently to meet with him. They did
so and when they arrived he told them that a ship had been traveling up
the coastline raiding villages and taking prisoners. He implored them to
help. They set off in a ship loaned to them by the Aladaer government.
They soon came into sight of a ship traveling away from a burning village.
They pursued and soon found a mist building up around them they lost consciousness
and awoke to find themselves in a strange land far from the ones they knew.
They investigated the several islands nearby and soon discovered many prisoners
that had been kept there used too feed a strange machine. They fought many
Undead and managed to rescue the prisoners. They also finally managed to
put a stop too the ship that had been bringing them here. They learned
that the master who was behind all of this was the Raven and they finally
met him after they had freed all the prisoners. They did not combat him.
And he told them that in times future when they fought the Patriarch he
would offer his aid for they were once allies but were now enemies. They
had found their third and final ally.
Echoes from the Past
The weeks rolled on and and the heroes recuperated in Farrel Castle.
One night Lady Teleri awoke after troubled dreams and was astonished
to see the ghost of her father Sir Stephen of Shallowdale beside her. The
spirit told her of her mother (Lady Brionne of Farrel Keep) who was trapped
within the realm of the God Balor.
Lady Teleri gathered up her companions and with the aid of several
powerful mages travelled to Balors realm. They travelled the realm but
found it eerily quiet, after awhile they came upon a man trapped in rock.
They managed to release him and found out his name was Harken who had disapered
several years earlier where Sir Stephen, Eltar Fireblade and other heroes
had lost their lives battling Balor. Harken agreed to help them whilst
within the realm. They fought several Formorians before finding out that
Brionne was within Balors own castle which was high up on a mountain peek.
They found that the only way they could penetrate the castle was through
a portal on the mortal realm that was in a temple devoted to Balor. They
travelled back to Erland and then onto the temple which was located on
an Isle off the northern coast of Erland. After fighting their way through
the temple they eventually found the portal and once more journeyed to
Balor's Realm. Balors Castle was empty when they arrived and they found
out he was battling Lugh of the Shining Light. They came upon Brionne entrapped
by magic and after many attempts they finally released her and returned
to Farrel Castle. Brionne collected together her equipment and tomes and
after speaking to her daughter Teleri decided to leave. Times had moved
on and she thought it was not her place to resume control of the county.
Legacy of Heroes (Of Aifa and Connla returned)
For a second time Lady Teleri was visited by a spirit. It was of an
ancient warrior of long ago. The spirit told her her son Connla had been
captured by Balor and that she must find him and save him. He told her
that she had within her the spirit of the ancient heroine Aifa.
The next day Teleri awoke with the knowledge and skills of Aifa and
with Erlmarc and Evina travelled to the land that Aifa had once ruled the
Land of Shadow which was now known as Caragar. Through a priest they found
that after Connla had been taken from Lugh's realm by Balor, Balor had
placed his soul in the body of a child on Caragar and altered his memory
to believe he must travel to find his father (Cu Chulaine) but this time
he would conquer the lands he came to whilst searching for his father.
The heroes discovered the boy had travelled to Weneth where they followed
him. Once there they realized he had raised a small army and had travelled
off to Irenayer. They quickly pursued him and found him at war with the
militia of the city of Cort. They battled the attempted to reach him but
were blocked by a giant of stone. After a powerful battle with the creature
they eventually defeated it.
When Teleri (Aifa) reached Connla she managed to get his attention
and after a great deal of words she eventually managed to persuade Connla
that what he was doing was wrong and how he was inhabiting the body of
a innocent boy. He called of his soldiers and agreed to try and leave his
hosts body and return back to Lugh.
They travelled to the tomb of and Cu Chulaine where Connla's
spirit left the body and ascended with his father.
A New King to Heal the Land
A great tourney and combat was arranged to decide who should finally
be the King after all these years. Sir Erlmarc decided to enter. When they
arrived there were many warriors and Knights. Sir Erlmarc fought well and
was in the last eight. During the final battle news came that the Sword
Calaburn had been pulled from Goibhniu 's anvil by a young man called Aynon.
Whoever pulled the sword was to be King. The Lords and Knights quickly
divided in their opinions as to whether he should be King. The most outspoken
against him was Sir Arthur Barrafield yet speaking in his defence was Sir
Christopher Darkmoor and Erlmarc.
The next day battle between the factions erupted the group fought on
the side of Aynon. Eventually Sir Christopher Darkmoor challenged Sir Arthur
Barrafield to single combat and after a long and bloody battle he bested
him and forced him and his Knights to retreat from the field. With Sir
Arthur gone Aynons allies soon won the day and that evening the celebrations
were great.
Several days later Aynon was crowned King and as one of his first acts
he Knighted Sir Erlmarc who had before not been a true Knight.
He then declared he would rejuvenate Castle Tarey and make it once
more a place of wonder and a place that stood for the spirit of the land.
