The Retroactive Dispel Magic knack allows a wizard to cast Dispel Magic to counter a spell prior to it being cast. If the wizard has Dispel Magic in a matrix then he may cast it in response to the opposing spell. The wizard using this knack must have knowledge of the spell being cast. In other words, if he does know it is being cast then he cannot dispel it. The wizard must achieve an Excellent success or better to dispel. He will have effectively "drained" away the astral energy required by the opposing mage to power the spell. To represent this, the knack imposes a penalty on the opposing wizard's Spellcasting Test equal to the dispelling wizard's Spellcasting rank. Each use of this knack costs the character 3 Strain Points.
