The Fortressbound Rebel
A rebel banner shines deep within a secure stone fortress.
Intimidating they both seem; the banner to many unknown,
The fortress impenetrable.
Banners do not desire confinement or arrest,
But to sing in the skies as the angels and aves.
Talismans like these are supposed to shine with the bright sun,
Yet this rebel lies within the fortress.
When will this little one walk out?
Or should we ask why it will not?
Children seem to penetrate the solid walls through the tiny hole.
"How is this possible?" the elder ones ask.
They could not fit through even if they could see it.
Yet the children do not realize it is a hole.
Are the elders unaware that children can pass through any fortress
and see any banner?
The fortress is more solid than stone to some,
Yet thinner than paper to others.
The banner still waits for the elders to become children again.
