Here's a brief walkthrough / minor translation of
the entire Speed Summer Special. If you have any
questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free
to e-mail me at: sashimix@juno.com.
The first part contains a brief history of Speed from their debut
to Rise giving numbers sold and such.
Another interesting thing is that they show Speed in very
short shorts! Something you'll never see more than a few times. ^_^
Neptune comes out. Who are these guys? I have no idea what their
relationship to Speed is...anyone care to fill me in?
They also have a segment where they have
four items: a microphone, marbles, spaghetti in a dog dish,
and rotten / old chocolates. These are then explained via
re-creations.
Neptune then bring out a video with Hiro-chan singing at
a contest when she was 3. Kawaii! ^_^
They also have a video of Eri-chan when she appeared on a show
when she was 5. You see Eri-chan in a little P-I-P (picture-in-picture)
doing the same exact moves with her hands...I guess she still remembers.
^_^
Then Neptune brings out her dress that she was wearing and she
tries it on to see how big she's gotten.
Next comes a Super Hit Medley featuring Body & Soul,
Wake Me Up, Steady, Go! Go! Heaven, White Love, and
my graduation. For Body & Soul through Go! Go! Heaven,
they're in their Body & Soul outfits. For White Love and
my graduation, they are wearing their my graduation outfits.
Note: The songs are not complete, they just sing parts of each,
but it's a nice mix because they go non-stop from one song to the
next.
Some Jpop artists then talk about Speed. Then we find out
Taka-chan has bad eye-sight. ^_^ Then something about
Takenouchi Yutaka (I guess Eri-chan likes him?). They
show a picture with her doing the peace sign next to him,
then they pan out to show the rest of Speed with her. ^_^;
Hehehe Then we find out Hitoe likes Usher. They show
him watching Speed's videos on a monitor. He says he likes their
voices and says that he hopes they come to see him perform when
they're in the states and vice versa. He then signs his CD for Hitoe;
"with much love." ^_^ Neptune make fun and hand Hitoe a
signed Usher CD by Neptune...then they give her the real deal.
Next comes a small snippet about how they were practically unknown
in 96 and then 2 years later they are so popular that crowds are
huge for the parade they appeared in.
The next part is probably the best part for getting the Speed Special.
It's a segment where Speed is on vacation and they're in
Tokyo (I believe) and they split into two groups; Hitoe & Eriko
and Takako and Hiroko. It opens with Hiroko wating near an intersection
for the rest of Speed. Eri-chan comes and then Hitoe and Takako come
a little while later.
We see Takako and Hiroko walking and numerous times Taka-chan
seems to wander...you need to see it. ^_^ Soon after there is a scene where
they are approached by a lady taking a survey; Hiro-chan escapes, but
Taka-chan is taking the survey. ^_^ Hiro-chan comes to her
rescue and pull Taka from the lady.
Hitoe and Eri-chan go to an HMV CD shop and Hitoe says something
like "No one's buying our CDs" so Eri tells her to "buy it." When
Hitoe goes to take it to the counter, there's a customer there.
They then go to the listening stations where there are some guys
looking at magazines and I believe they say that Eri-chan and Hiro-chan
are cute and have good voices.
Hitoe then goes into the R&B section and a gaijin approaches her.
He asks her if she likes R&B music and she says yes.
Eri-chan has begun to talk to the guys that are near the
listening stations and she says she likes White Love. ^_^
Hitoe tells the gaijin bye. She then meets Eri and tells her about him.
The gaijin meets Hitoe again and says, "We keep meeting." She
asks him who his favorite R&B artists are and he says, "you."
Eri is shown taking off some headphones at a listening
station and she bumbles almost knocking off her sunglasses.
The gaijin then shows Hitoe around and picks out some albums
and what not. She goes to the cashier and tells them she
didn't bring money.
Meanwhile Taka and Hiro-chan go to a shop where there are
puriclubs and take pictures on a machine that has Eri and Taka-chan
frames. They make all sorts of weird faces. Truly something
worth seeing.
Eri and Hitoe go to a food shop and Eri calls the employee an
"obasan" (old lady), but Hitoe says she's not an "obasan".
Eri then says "oneesan". They go upstairs to eat and Eri-chan
puts something really hot (steaming hot...not spicy) and...well,
you gotta see it. Hitoe tells Eri she sees a cool foreigner.
She points out a black man. They then see a couple and they
start pretending to say what they're saying. "No" "I don't believe
you." "Believe me" etc. Then they say it's good that they're together.
Hiro and Taka go to a round the house sushi place (one of those places
where the sushi is on a conveyor belt and you pick what you want to eat).
They then eat and talk asking each other what this sushi is and that.
Hiro wants egg and a while later one comes down the line. Just at the
last moment Hiro grabs it. Along comes a sushi with green stuff on
it (seaweed salad I believe) and Taka says "Wow, look!" The guy that
makes the sushi then places another sushi with the green stuff
right in front of them and Hiro says "Ah, eat this" Taka says
no....horse, horse, horse, horse. They look at it and say "ready...
go" but Hiro doesn't eat it and then asks Taka if it's good.
Hiro then tells Taka that she can pick something for Hiro to eat
and Taka replies "fufun" (subtle laughter) and then she
says "umasashi." The chef gives them three because they're
good customers or something. Hiro is going to eat it, but she
says "no..." She eats it and Taka asks her how it tastes. She
says something and then Taka tells her she's not a child, just
drink water.
Eri and Hitoe go to a Karaoke place and sing songs.
Hitoe sings "Katsudaze" by the Ulfuls. They move the table
and then start banging their heads. They sing Sharan Q's
"Iiwake" Eri sings some sort of cute popsy song.
They then sing "La*La*La*Love Song" by Toshinobu
Kubota. Then they re-enact a scene:
Eri: "Minami"
Hitoe: "Sena"
Both: "Aaaa..." (as they hug)
Hitoe then picks a song and says "Hello, I'm Arakaki Hitoe...
are you my fan?" Eri nods her head. Hitoe sings and then
Eri does a fan cry "Hi~to~e!"
We then switch to Taka and Hiro. Taka bows and says she just
turned 15. Taka begins to sing and Hiro starts to laugh. Taka
continues to sing and then sits back down and grabs Hiro
around the shoulder. Hiro and Taka then sing another slow song
while holding each other around the waist. Taka then puts her
head on Hiro's shoulder. Taka then sings and says something
(Aishiteiru???) and Hiro shoves her away in repsonse.
They then start singing Puffy's song "Asia no something..."
Taka gets into it and knocks a drink down and while she getting
something to wipe it up, she tells Hiro to continue singing.
We then move back to Hitoe and Eri who are singing the exact
same song; complete with motions. Cut back to Hiro and Taka
who are doing the same song...they start doing the jogging sequence.
Next comes a split screen with both groups singing the same song
at the same time.
Hiro and Taka go to the train station and buy tickets from the
machines but they get 3 instead of two. So they go to the booth
to get a refund. Taka then slips her ticket into the machine
and tries to walk through but it's the wrong one so the doors close and
Hiro walks away like she doesn't know her. They then try again at a different
machine and get through. They're looking for their station and they
meet an old lady who needs to find "Yamaten" line. They point her
in the direction and they ask her if they should show her. They take her
to the station and then proceed back to their station. They then say that
they helped the lady even when they weren't sure where to go, but it
was good. They are then on the train talking. Hiro is looking out the
window while Taka continues to talk. Hiro then tells her she's tired.
Hiro says she has to use the toilet asks Taka to come, but she says
go by yourself. After Hiro leaves, Taka goes into Hiro's bag and
pulls out a pocket game (looks like a Pink Tamagotchi Gameboy).
Hiro comes back and asks her what she's doing.
Hitoe and Eri are now on a bus. They meet two foreign girls and tell them
their name and ask their age. The girls ask Hitoe and Eri if they
have boyfriends and Eri starts making those cute girl sounds.
Then calls them "ecchi." ^_^; They then talk about whether they should
show the girls the Rise album that Hitoe bought. Hitoe takes it out
and Eri and Hitoe are saying in English "Me" while pointing at themselvs
on the cover. Hitoe asks Eri if she should give the album to the girls
and she does. Eri then tells Hitoe that her 3000yen is gone. ^_^
Eri and Hitoe then talk and wander if these girls might know
Olivia from D&D so they get their telephone numbers.
Hiro and Taka then get to the beach (this was their destination / goal)
Hitoe and Eri are on the electric train and say it's "wonderful" while the
train is going through a street. They're now at a road crossing a train track
and a train is coming. Hitoe tells Eri to smile. They smile and wave and then
Hitoe says "Dare mo mitenakatta" (I guess it translates to
"Who did I see"). Eri calls Taka on the cell phone. Eri asks
where they are and they then start on a trip to Nishihama (I think that's the
name). They place sticks in the sand where the water meets it.
Eri is walking and looking away from the ocean and Hitoe tells her
to watch out and Eri starts to scream as she runs while water is coming at her.
A bunch of guys training by running pass Eri and Hitoe and they
tell them to "fight." Eri tells them they're slow, and to do their best.
They stop to take a picture. They finally arrive at the beach. Hiro is going to
take a picture of Taka when Taka sees Eri and Hitoe. She
then yells that they're late. Hiro yells at the top of her lungs "YOU'RE
LATE~~~!!!" Hitoe says "We're late?" and Eri says, "die." ^_^;
Eri and Hitoe ask them what they did and Hiro tells Eri and Hitoe that she
ate horse. A bunch of kids along with their teachers come to meet
them and one of the boys says he bought their CD. They then sing
a part of White Love. The kids say goodbye and they then play with fireworks
on the beach.
Next comes the fashion show segments. Taka is dressed in some 70-ish
clothes with a big 'fro. They turn off the lights and it glows in the
dark. Eri sports a high-tech science fiction type robot design
with CDs (I guess Speed CDs, eh? ^_^;). Hiro is set up
with a Japanese / Chinese style outfit complete with eye makeup
that makes her eyes look even more slanted. Hitoe comes out
with a diva look. Some dummy soldiers then shoot their guns at her
as the lights go out. When the lights come back on, she loses the robe
and has a gun. She fires at the soldiers and they fall down.
Here's another cool part of the special. A small behind the
scenes / making of Andromedia special. There are some
clips from the movie. Then they show Hiro doing her lines and she
keeps messing up. She says it's hard. Then we go to Eri. She
is supposed to be getting shocked, but the director says she
needs to put more tenshion into it. She says it's hard.
We then move to April 20, the day they shoot the kissing scene.
Hiro seems very nervous and uneasy about the whole thing.
It takes them 7 scenes to get it right, at which time, Hiro jumps
up and down.
We then move to a tear-jerkig scene where Mai says, "Moo iino...
watashi wa...sayounara...aeteyokatta...oniisan ni..." (nevermind...
G...goodbye...I'm glad I got to see you...) She then cries.
Da Pump and the other guy (Yu from Andromedia...sorry, forgot his
real name) come out.
Da Pump then do their "Rhapsody in Blue" which is kind of catchy.
Nice song.
The segment features Speed as they prepare for their long
RISE concert tour. It shows them practicing their dances...
Eri-chan is told she's doing the dance wrong...I didn't really see
anything wrong...then again, I'm not a dancer. =) They practice singing
their songs to the live instruments. There is also some talk about
the members of Speed doing solo works.
Finally, the end of the show ends with Speed singing "Alive."
BTW, there was something like this available on someone else's
Speed site, but it was just certain scenes that were explained...
not the entire thing like I just did. Well, I hope this was more than
enough information for you. Also, if you want to get the
video, check out my page for information on how to get it
for $5. I believe it's in the "Special Offers" section of my
Speed page (http://www.oocities.com/Tokyo/4718/speed.htm)
