You swim the short distance to the southern beach.
No Hatching Beach(#27RJ)
The same fine-grained sands which characterize the No islands stretch on the beach toward the west until jutting cliffs cut off passage but for very low tides, and to the east until the shoreline curves out of sight. Brilliant blue-green waters invite swimming and playing, and numerous firelizards dart and hunt in the surf.
To the north the ocean is hard to miss. To the south is the entrance to the hatching grounds, and the candidate quarters lie to the southeast. Slightly apart from everything and to the southwest are the weyrling barracks.

Miranda is asleep on the sand curled up with Litreth. Aw, isn't she cute?
Jerekan is walking along the beach, whistling tunelessly, smiling brightly, and drip-dripping all over the place. He pauses to shake his head, water spraying from the lethal weapon--err, braid on his head.
Litreth rumbles as eyelids open at Jerekan's arrival. This wakes Miranda who smiles sleepily. "hello," she says.
Jerekan's smile brightens at that dragon. "Heellloooo there..." He practically sings. The little 'lizard on his shoulder echoes the greeting with cheery chirrup. He leans around the blue, waving at his rider. "Hiya."
Miranda blinks even more. "Hey... Jerk," she'd almost forgotten him, that'll do his ego a lot of good. "I haven't seen you for ages, how are you?"
Alina waves.
Alina has disconnected.
It is currently the middle of the night during autumn early in month 9 of turn 310. The temperature outside is 68 degrees Farenheit. A few clouds roam the sky.
"Fiiine and dandy, thank you. How are you and yours?" Jerk smiles cheerily, closing those cobalt-blue eyes and letting spray from the ocean's wave splash at his face. "Lovely evening.." He comments lightly, keeping those eyes closed.
Miranda hrms. "We're well," she says. "Busy," she adds.
Jerekan nods, opening those eyes and leaning forward to peer at Litreth again. "He's very lovely." He comments, smiling. He pauses though, correcting himself. "Handsome, I mean.." That firelizard on his shoulder echoes the sentiments once again.
Miranda smiles. "Gee, thanks," she says, "He is isn't he?" Then more awkwardly "I'm sorry you didn't... you know... impress."
Jerekan blinks blue eyes in surprise, head tilting to one side. "Oh. Well, that's a silly thing to be sorry about..." He blushes faintly, turning away. "Err.. /I'm/ sorry about being sort of.. nasty to you, that one day in the barracks..."
Miranda ohs. "WEll I was being a bit silly," she notes.
Jerekan shrugs, smiling warmly. "Aw, don't worry about it.. I was the one at fault.." He shrugs again, then idly reaches up to scritch the little blue on his shoulder who chirrups yet again.
Miranda hrms. "I guess I just... well I'd been a bit fond of those love letters I found. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."
Jerekan just shrugs it off. "It's okay. I figured you weren't serious..."
Miranda grins a bit. "So, friends then?"
Jerekan shrugs, and extends his hand. "Sure. Friends."
Miranda takes it. "Maybe next clutch?" she suggests.
Jerekan grins, shaking his head. "Naah.. What are the chances of /me/ getting searched a third time?"
Miranda hrms "Don't they just ask you to stand? Yevir said he'd stood 4 times before this one, and I..." she grins at him "think you'd make a great rider.
Jerekan blinks in surprise. "Me? /Me/?" Those cobalt eyes grow wide. "..I don't think so.. have to be mature and.. willing to do physical labor." Shudder.
Miranda ers. "Mature? Lots of the riders are younger than you," she says. "Well, if you impress, you don't mind so much, I do it for /him/ you know," gently poking Litreth. "Lots of things I wouldn't do if I didn't have him."
Jerekan grins faintly, shaking his head. "Nah... I don't think it's worth /that/." He's lying, of course.. "But I have Ikkan to keep me company.. When he hasn't disappeared without a trace, as he usually does..." He scritches that blue again, but no sooner does his arm drop back to his side than the 'lizard flutters off toward the main island.
Miranda hrms? "it's not the same you know," reaching to scritch the blue who rumbles contentedly. "I think you can do it, if I can...."
Jerekan shrugs. "I just figure it's no use getting my hopes up..."
Miranda smiles. "I know you can do it."
Jerekan shakes his head, smiling faintly. "Nah, that has nothing to do with why people impress.. they're just.. chosen." Shrug. "I don't think my dragon will ever hatch." He shrugs again. "...But, maybe then I can travel across Pern, instead of being tied down to one Weyr." He winks, smiling faintly.
Miranda grins. "Well, when we can fly, and we can take passengers, you're welcome to come with us," Litreth rumbles something that sounds like draconic agreement.
Jerekan grins, nodding. "Thanks, Miranda... And...You." He winks at Litreth. Forgive him. he's bad with names.
Miranda supplies. "Litreth," Litreth rumbles, extending his neck to eye Jerekan.
Jerekan nods, repeating, "Litreth... Lovely name." He comments, grinning. Ikkan blinks in from between, chirruping his agreement one again.
Litreth regards Jerekan with eyes whirling blue contentment. "He says thankyou, and your little one is very cute," says Miranda, leaning to scritch midnight blue eyeridges.
Jerekan grins, chuckling lightly. "I suppose so..." He scritches at the little blue. Scritch scritch scritch. "But not as cute as his guardian, of course." He winks. Just kidding. REally.
Miranda laughs. "Now you wouldn't like it if I agreed with that," she points out.
Jerekan wriggles those auburn eyebrows. "Says who?"
Miranda grins. "You didn't before," she points out. "Me and my romantic hides."
Jerekan grins, too, shrugging. "Well, who doesn't like a compliment?" He asks, winking.
