Today we have a respected pyschology professional, to talk to us about the most famous SM love triangle, Mamoru, Usagi and Seiya. Please give a big welcome to Dr. Joyce Daughters!
*A woman, with an extreme resemblance to Umi, enters the room and sits in the couch near Umino.*
So, I heard that you have studied the subject deeply, what are your thoughts on this subject.

*Umi... ejem... I mean Dr. Joyce takes a way too long deep breath*

Umino, it seems that Usagi's romances followers have divided into two teams: those who support Usagi and Mamoru and those who believe Seiya should be Usagi's love.

This debate has created a trend to bash either one of those two guys. They both have received flames, insults, rants, etc. All of the parties have come up with bad things of Usagi dating the "other", they have work on huge list explaining why their choice is the best one.

To me, one thing is clear, Usagi chosed Mamoru. However, another point is also obvious to me, Seiya is a wonderful guy. I like both sides of the story. The way Seiya flirted with Usagi tenaciously, in spite of all the times she told him she had a boyfriend found a way straight to my heart. It made me laugh several times.

I was really mad at Mamoru, since I missed the Stars episode where he died, so I thought he was just being incredibly rude by no writing back. That made me like Seiya even more. I believe that without his friendship, Usagi would have given up to the blue earlier.

	Always irritating her, always acting so sure about himself, always Seiya. No matter how many times he was asked to leave her, to give up their friendship or to accept she would not love him, he kept trying.	Seiya would have been Usagi's perfect first boyfriend. That guy who remains your bestfriend forever, someone to have fun before comitting for that relationship you hope will last forever. That guy you grow up with, making mistakes, chosing paths.

But he wasn't. He came once Usagi had found her true love. So he didn't have a chance. Poor Seiya. Maybe that is one of the reasons people like him so much, his hopeless love, so Romeo and Juliet like. He even had his balcony scene with her. Mamoru was then, the only winner. I truely believe that, even Seiya might be sweeter to Usagi, more relaxed and fun, Mamoru is the right guy for Usagi. Why? You Seiya fans might ask.

A perfect relationship is not only that were there is love, companionship and communication. It has to make both members of it develop the best in them. Mamoru does this to Usagi, Seiya doesn't. Mamoru lets Usagi grow by herself, pushes her harder and harder.

Simply, without his help, I can't imagine Usagi becoming Neo Queen Serenity. Usagi needs to gain serenity (yes, pun intended), equanimity and maturity. This is given and shown to her by Mamoru. He is more serious, reflexive and responsable.

Seiya is more like champagne, all bubbly and sparky. He makes your head light. Mamoru forces you to keep your feet on the ground. I adore Seiya. I just can't picture a Neo King Seiya. He needs to be the center of attention, to be in the spotlight. He would have a hard time being second to Neo Queen Serenity. Mamoru doesn't.

His style is just to interfere when extremely necessary and let Usagi do her work. A Neo Queen with Seiya as a king would have been a mess. Mamoru spoils her, but he does not allow her to be rude, unpolite or lazy. Seiya does, just once he asked her to give more, when they played softball. Mamoru asked her to behave all the time.

If Usagi had lived the normal life she wished for, I think Seiya would have been her perfect match, but she had huge responsabilities both in the present and in the future. No normal life for her, so Usagi needs a different man. One who would make her a better woman, a better Queen.
Basicaly, I love both, but I understand Mamoru was, is and will be Usagi's love.

*Dr. U... Joyce, finishes her speech, as Umino snores soundly.*
