AWA 4

-=Review=-

Day 1- Friday! Me, Josh, Chris, and Josh's mom went, we arrived around 2:30 and got our hotel room and headed straight to the con. Got our badges then looked around for awhile. We first went to the dealer's room. it was really big this year, with fairly nice prices. Like wall scrolls were around $10 as compared to $15-20 last year. I wanted the Pikachu Pokemon doll, but they sold out fast! what did i buy there? okay, i went to the con with about $300 and left with about $40. Here goes;
Magic Knight Rayearth Poster
DBZ Poster (with EVERY DBZ character ever created)
Slayers Try Poster
Ranma 1/2 Wall Scroll (The OAV one)
Team Rocket (Pokemon) Mini CD
Rayearth Mini CD
You'reUnderArrest Mini CD (yeah, these things are cool, and cheap)
Sailor Moon Pencil Case
Gunbarl PSX
Puyo Puyo Sun PSX
Slayers Royal PSX
Iczer 1 Soundtrack (2 CDs)
Dragon Ball GT shirt
Sailor Moon Hentai (comic, dirt cheap!)
SD Gundam001 Keychain
Ranma 1/2 Card Set
Rockman X3 Model
Zelgadis Pin (Slayers)
Sailor Moon MousePad
i looked in my Con info book, and realized, Unico In The Island Of Magic was on! wow! so immediately i went to watch it. i sat through the entire thing too! sadly there was only about 10 people there. Plenty of room for more people. And when i started saying the lines with the movie, they kinda looked at me, heh. One girl was a real fan cause her boyfriend was like "Cmon lets go see this other movie", and she insisted that she stay there. Ya! You go girl! heh.
Opening ceremonies were okay, but nothing special. Most guests appeared, and when he said "Apollo Smile couldn't make it" we were all cheering! Next was "Ippongi Bang Sings", this group (3 Japanese peeps) that sings Anime opening/ending songs like Urusei Yatsura, DBZ, Cutey Honey, and some others.
Next was kinda embarrassing. Karaoki... Yes, i sang Karaoki, i dunno, it was kinda fun. you had to bring your own CDs, and since i had just got the Iczer 1 soundtrack, i thought i'd sing the ending theme (i got it memorized japanese). Bad thing was, the song on my soundtrack was the Full version and i only knew the half they played in the movie. I sang really well though, got Very nervous half way through though, my legs and hands shook like nuts, but i just clenched my fists and sang away! Midway though, i said "Well, thats all i know, sorry!" and a few of the sailor moon girls watching me were like "Thats okay, you did great!" and everyone clapped! Yes!
Afterward, i remember seeing this girl dressed as Jesse (Musashi) from Pokemon, and i really wanted to talk to her so i did. She was showing me her hotel room, and it was cool. she had taken all her SailorMoon and Rayearth stuff with her and decorated her room with it all over. Made it her own apartment sorta. Her friend  Jenn dressed as Sailor Mars. Yea, so anyway, we Would have sung the Tenchi Muyo ending theme as a duet cause she really wanted to but because she was so nervous, she wanted me to be there singing with her for "emotional support". It turned out that Karaoki was booked so we didn't get to sing (and after we had raced down 10 flights of stairs to do so, ugh!). The rest of Friday we kinda just played in the Video Game room and watched some films.
SATurday was really popular! everyone who could have come was there. Over 2,000 people i'd say. Dealers room was jam packed! We got up early to see "Dr.Slump" one of Akira Toriyama's early films, but it was cancelled so we was pissed. There was another panel we went to called "Space Ghost Rules" which featured the voice of Space Ghost and Zorak and Moltar. Those guys were cool. I'd say mid-30's or so. Funny segment of the convention! We saw some old cartoons like original Transformers, some old Jap cartoons (Speed Racer, Candy Candy, Orbots) then we saw Sailor Moon, which was hilarious cause a buncha guys were there laughing really hard.
Video Contest! really neat. They used the song "I would walk 5000 miles" and used scenes of Ryoga from Ranma 1/2 running, real cool. Nothing out of this world, but a decent job. Costume Contest was sort of a letdown too. Not as funny and most of the skits consisted of a buncha people dressed up coming out and attacking each other. The audience was huge! Almost an entire gymnasium full!
costume contest. overall, pretty funny but not as good as the other year. For instance, the other year, Chairman Dave Merril would comment on every costume and sorta put fun of it, this year, he made a few comments but they weren't as good. Mainly because there were over 60 costumes. no gundam or giant robos this year, but no cross dressers either (thank god!). the Inu-Yasha was funny, his skit was "If you're going to dress as a Manga character, Dress As A Manga Character. If youre gonna have a breakfast have a breakfast at hardee's" (off of that one commercial showing you should do something all the way if you're gonna do it). A Lot of cos plays involved a big crowd of dressed up people going up and fighting one another. Super Sayin Goku was funny. He made Yellow saiyan hair out of sponge and had the stages too. The first one, black, second tall pointy yellow, and even stage 3 which was a long golden sponge sorta hair thingy. he fought freeza. Two guys dressed as Rick Hunter and Derrick Wildstar from Robotech and did that thing from "Night At The Roxbury", they even got into the audience and boogied with some sailor moon girl. Another 13 yr old girl did a really good skit as Washu from Tenchi Muyo. She got a crowd going shouting "Wa-Shu! Wa-Shu! Wa-shu!" it was cool.Three girls dressed as Tifa, Aerith, and Yuffie from FF7, but they didnt attend the costume play, ugh, oh well. I got pics of a few of em, nice ones too. One real good one of Felicia.Sadly my flash on the camera died out about halfway through the costume play so i dunno if half of em will turn out.
After the costume play they made the one big room into two separate ones, and showed last years winning music videos in one, and had the dance in the other. Music videos! yes!I sent off and got that tape recently. it rocks except for the fading sound quality at the starting 5 videos. They didn't put HarshMistress Productions music videos on there. Guess those were 97's winners. they used the song "Lesbian Segull" and showed Sailor Neptune and Uranus together, funny. Another song by LordsOfAcid "I must increase my bust" went really well with the big-busted anime girls. very funny.
Dance was cool. the other year they played some oldies and there were only about 20 people there. This Year was much better. Over 40+ people attended, and they had requests! even bring in your own CDs and play music. They played lotsa anime songs this year too. my friend Chris brought his Nunchuckas so i tried it out (i know how to use those things, so i didn't hurt anyone, i hope =]). it looked smooth cause i was in front of the strobe light with the nunchuckas, i think it got peoples attention! nobody really knew how to dance so it was pretty much freestyle all out dancing. Especially the techno. that was cool.
Con suites. There were two main ones. One was called "Con suite In the sky". Hence the name, it was on the 15th (Top) floor. Pretty nice free drinks (Rum Coke!!!) and Chocolate covered pretzel sticks (called "Pocky" in Japan), another was weird. The lady gives you a sticker as you enter and you say what you think about the world for their "Newsletter", anyway, it got boring fast, despite this one lady ranking on that live-action anime girl Apollo Smile "She stuffs em!". heheh.
i forgot! Earlier we showed Fast Food Freedom Fighters! at first the crowd was like "this sucks" but later on the crowd grew and we had an awesome audience. they laughed at the wrong jokes! arrrgh. i wanted some credit for it. nobody asked for a copy, i guess they just figured they'd find it themselves. but i'm sure they enjoyed it cause afterward in the elevator, people were discussing and laughing about it! Yes!
Not much happened on the final day. We saw Lum and some Japs at the Waffle House where we ate breakfast (Grits suck!). the Dealer's room dropped their prices majorly. They had a sweet deal "Buy 3 t-shirts or cds and pay only $40" so we got it. also, some models dropped to almost 25% off. bad thing was all the good ones were sold out so the deal wasn't as smooth. They showed some nice movies the final day, but we only caught some SailorMoon , Rayearth, and SLayers Try. we left about noon, and had lotsa fun. i will go next year, oh yes, i WiLL. i need to be sure to bring a videocamera this time. My friend who was Supposed to go didn't get his paycheck and used the old "I don't have enough money" excuse so i didn't get anything on tape. However i used 2 rolls of film and audio-mini-recorded some stuff, not that it matters but its nice to listen to some of the music videos, uhh not really. i dunno why i brought the micro-recorder, ugh. Yes! you must go! okay, thanks for listening to my review
