The Filipino Youth Organization consists of all Filipinos ranging from twelve to about twenty-five years of age. As long as you are someone that is committed to doing their part as a member, the group is pretty much accepting to everyone. For the officers, there is always a President, Presiden-elect, Treasurer, Secretary, and PRO, but as something new, an FYO writer was added.

The President is the head of everything, the main role player, the monarch of the land, the heart of the circulatory system....you get the idea. He or she is the one that makes eveything possible and approves all ideas. Of course, the president doesn't automatically make the decisions for the members. When the FYO sits down and discusses certain things, the President waits and see if the WHOLE group can agree to an idea, then he or she says, "Well, ok. Since everyone agrees to this idea, then it's settled."

After the President is elected, a President-elect is elected so that when the President's "term" is up, the President-elect takes over. It's like a whole "cycle" situation, but it's pretty much in order. The President-elect is basically the Vice-president who is one level below the head of the group. Just as the Vice-president of the U.S. would do, he or she helps out the President with calling meetings, arranging events, and making difficult decisions. He or she can take over, just in case if the President isn't there to take care of things.

The Treasurer holds the $$green$$. He or she keeps track of the FYO expenses, balances, and anything else that deals with $$money$$. This HAS to be a person that is VERY trustworthy, so that we know he or she won't go crazy with greed and end up running away with our money. That doesn't usually happen though, thank goodness.

The Secretary plays an important role in our organization. Each meeting the Secretary has his or her handy-dandy notebook and writes down everything that occurs during a meeting. Everything from the members that arrived to the ideas that were expressed. This is so that we can refer back to any ideas that we could use later on.

The PRO's or Public Relations Officers try to find out where to hold events or to get in touch with the people in the area to approve the holding. (Note from one of the FYO Page creaters: We'll have to find out more about this position later!)

There is a newsletter that is distributed monthly throughout the Greater Kansas City area called the Tambuli. This newsletter is made possible by the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City (FAGKC) from which the FYO was created (we are like a branch off of the Association, to put it more easily). The Tambuli contains everthing about our Filipino society. So, all of a sudden, it was thought up to create a page to add on to the newsletter, since the FYO is important for all the young Filipinos to be acknowledged about. That's where the FYO writer or Tambuli writer came in. He or she makes up a section about all-things-FYO, like having a profile for each member, upcoming events, etc. To put it in simpler terms, the FYO Page is a written-printed version of this FYO Website! Tah-dah!
