Cambodia
This February I spent 8 days traveling Cambodia. I entered into Cambodia over land from Bangkok to Siem Reap. I spent 3 days wandering around the ruins of Angkor Watt and environs. After that it was a couple of days in Phnom Penn, and then down to Sihanoukvile. From there I caught a boat which took me to the Thai border. I spent the night in Tratt, and then it was back to Bangkok the following day.
Cambodia was much more expensive than I imagined it would be.
The entrance fee to Angkor Watt for three days (you definantly need three days to
apreciate Angkor Watt) was a steep $40.00 US. Accomodations, though reasonable by
developed country standards, were also high considering the basket case economy of
Cambodia. A double room in a guest house in Cambodia will run you between 5 and 6 US
dollars a night, and meals are somewhere in the 2 dollar range. Have this being
said, allow yourself about 25 dollars a day for expenditures. The most expensive
part of the trip being Angkor Watt. Three days and four nights in Siem Reap will run
you close to if not over $100.00 US.
Expensive or not... Cambodia is one of the best places I have ever visited. Angkor Watt is by far the most impressive made made structures of its kind, and is a must visit for anyone intrested in Asian architecture, history, and religion.
