The January bannings was in place so i decided to play my favourite UG Madness deck. There was about 40 plus players. I only managed to borrow 2 Troll Ascetic so i played 2 Daze and 2 Trolls. Here is my decklist:
Round 1: Vs The Rock
Game 1: I didn't really see any action on his side. My turn 2 Aquamoeba go all the way. He cast a turn 5 Genesis but i have Wonder in graveyard. His life count goes 20, 17, 14, 13, 10, 9, 6, 2..
Game 2: I sided in 3 Callous Oppressor and took out 2 Daze and 1 Arrogant Wurm. I beat him down with flying Arrogant Wurms, Rootwalla. His side is like Defense Grid, Planar Void... Poor guy..
1-0-0
Round 2: Vs Goblin Biddings
Game 1: He beats me down to 5 which i stabilized with a Mongrel, Aquamoeba and a 6/6 Wurm in play. He got a Warchief, Piledriver and Ringleader. I then topdeck Wonder and flys over for the win.
Game 2: I sided in 3 Chills and 1 Baloth. He got a slow start and i draw a lot of Mongrels and Aquamoeba. I win with my life total at 20.
2-0-0
Round 3: Vs Red Deck Wins
Game 1: He went first with Mountain, Mox, Slith Firewalker. I went Island and go. He then lay Port and Grim Lavamancer. He ports my land during upkeep and I drop forest and go. He then drop Tangle Wire and i concede. My hand was 2 Mongrel, Arrogant Wurm and a lot of stuff. If i won the dice roll, i may manage to survive.
Game 2: I board in 3 Shaman, 1 Baloth and 1 Rushing River. I can't remember much about this game. I won this game.
Game 3: He didnt have a fast start. i went down to 5, thanks to his 2 cats. But he couldn't draw a finisher to kill me with his active Lavamancer. I kill him with a Mongrel and 6/6 Wurm. Very close game.
3-0-0
Round 4: Vs The Rock
Game 1: This game is basically the same as Round 1. My turn 2 Aquamoeba goes all the way. I draw my lone Wonder again.. :P
Game 2: I sided in 3 Callous Oppressor. I went turn 2 Aquamoeba and commerce the beatdown with Intution for Wonder on turn 3. He was racing me with Baloth. I tapped out to flashback for Roar of the Wurm when i was at 11 which was a big mistake. Then he end of turn Vampiric Tutor for Deed and Deed for 3 killing my Aquamoeba, Roar and Oppressor. He knocks me down to 7. I cast Oppressor and Mongrel on the following turn. I took another blow from Baloth which i was down to 2. Then I block his Baloth the next turn with my mongrel, discarding 2 Forest and a Logic. I then managed to recover by drawing an Arrogant Wurm and beat him down.
4-0-0
Then i ID the next 2 rounds. The top 8 was 3 UG Madness, 2 Red Deck Wins, 2 Rock and 1 Specter Tog. I play with Red Deck Wins in the quarter-finals.
Quarter-finals: Vs Red Deck Wins
Game 1: He didn't have a fast start. I finish him with Troll Ascetic and Mongrel.
Game 2: I sided in 3 Shaman, 1 Rushing River and 1 Baloth. He goes turn 1 Mountain, done. I go Forest, done. Turn 2 he goes Firewalker and beat for 1. I go Mongrel, done. He Shrapnel Blast my Mongrel and i discard a Roar. He beat me for 2. I go next turn Trol Ascetic which i traded with his 3/3 Firewalker. My next 2 Roar traded with his 2 Cats. I then cast Mongrel and Arrogant Wurm and kill him.
5-0-2
Semi-finals: Vs The Rock
Game 1: I paris once and kept a 6 cards hand with 1 Walla, 2 Forest, 1 Study, 1 Arrogant Wurm and Aquamoeba. I didn't draw a Island for many turns which he goes turn 4 Visara, thanks to Birds and Elves. I lost.
Game 2: I sided in 3 Callous Oppressor. This game was anti-climax as I paris twice and I kept my 5 cards hand with no lands. I didn't draw lands for the next 4 or 5 turns. He kill me with 2 Baloths.
5-1-2
As you can read from the report that my semi finals was a disappointing one because of my poor hand. If I play the deck again. I would play 4 Trolls Ascetic. They are very powerful. If you manage to resolve a Troll against a Tog player, he would have no solution to it. I would change my sideboard to 3 Viridian Shaman, 3 Gainsay, 3 Oppressor, 2 Stifle, 1 Bind, 3 Baloth. If you go second, then the Chills wouldn't really hurt the Red Deck Wins cos most of his casting cost are 1 or 2, the Firecats can morph. This is all for my report, happy reading!
