Post Tournament Report on Grand Prix Trial Kuala Lumpur on 200604

The turnout was poor, about 17 players because there are several other places hosting the tournament also. I played RG Goblins a build similar to the ones in Japanese nationals. Skullclamp is banned so the maindeck Oxidizes may be quite useless. Nevertheless I go ahead with the deck. There were 5 rounds of swiss.

Round 1: RU deck???
Game 1: I kill him easily with my goblins. I got no idea what he is playing. I think March of the Machines because I saw a lot of talisman and a ingot.
Game 2: I board in my Naturalizes for his March. I kill him easily this game also. A Fireball killed a few goblins but Siege Gang finish him off.
1-0-0

Round 2: Vs Big Red
Game 1: He was playing a deck with Flamebreak, Pyroclasm, Atog, Slice and Dice. I didnt see any Arc Sloggers. I won this game easily.
Game 2: He couldnt deal with my Clickslither. I won
2-0-0

Round 3: Vs RG Goblins
Game 1: His deck is identical to mine except for the sideboard. I got a good hand and he was screwed at 3 lands.
Game 2: I board in 4 Starstorms. He draws 2 Pyroclasm and knocks me down to 3 with his Goblin Goon. Unfortunately, I draw a Siege Gang and he couldnt draw any other creatures. A Clickslither finish him off.
3-0-0

Round 4: Vs RG Beasts
Game 1: My opponent was a good player and he was my friend. It was a bad matchup because he plays with Baloth and had a lot of board sweepers like Starstorm and Pyroclasm. He mulligan to a 5 cards hand. Unfortunately, I couldnt take advantage as I had a slow hand and I draw lots of lands after that. A Arc-slogger and Baloth finish me off.
Game 2: His board was identical to the first game. A Baloth and Arc-Slogger plus a Contested Cliff finish me off.
3-1-0

Round 5: Vs Mono Red Goblins(ID)
3-1-1

When the standings was out, I was at 2nd in place, playing against Affinity in the quarter-finals.

Quarter-finals: Vs Affinity
Game 1: I was rather confident in the matchup because after sideboarding, I got a lot of artifact hate spells. I paris once to another identical hand of 4 lands, Warchief and Sledder. I proceed to draw another 2 Warchief and lands. I lose.
Game 2: I board in Naturalizes and Shaman. I kept a hand of 4 Mountain, Clickslither, Shaman and Naturalize. I got punished when my deck fails to yield a green land till the 6th turn. I die horribly.

My quarter-finals was a disappointing one due to my poor hand. I should have paris in the 2nd game. RG Goblin is fun to play and has a good matchup against Affinity. However, due to the banning of Skullclamp, control decks has re-emerged. Eternal Witness is broken. I'm going to Grand Prix Kuala Lumpur in July and maybe i'm playing Goblin Bidding because it has a better matchup against control decks.
