The perfect embodiment of kirei is logically a blank sheet of paper. Whiteness is colour without impurity and the plane is necessarily simpler than a cube. A white sheet of paper may seem to be empty but in reality it is full of kirei. Kirei also evokes a sense of sadness, which is why the Hinomaru looks not only beautiful but a little lonely as well.
