Needless to say, visiting Peace Memorial Park is a rather sobering and depressing experience, but it’s perhaps a necessary one. Every concerned individual should be informed of the effects of an atomic bomb and should be aware that what was dropped on Hiroshima is small compared to the hydrogen bombs of today.

Like its equivalent in Nagasaki, the A-bomb museum will win no awards for architectural inspiration, but its simple message is driven home with sledgehammer force. The exhibits tell the story of the bomb and the destruction it brought on Hiroshima and its people. A model showing the town after the blast highlights the extent of the damage – seeing this, you might ponder what an insignificant little squib this bomb was, compared to the destructive potential of modern atomic weapons.
