There's not a lot known about the Angels except for the fact that they enjoy trying to squash all us humans like bugs. Not a very pretty thought. The Second Impact was created by an Angel, and the later attacks by the other Angels (17 in all) led to some pretty ugly destruction (what Aidan's room looks like on a normal day, the Angels do to Japan everyday). The Angels don't seem to have a uniform shape or method of attacking, which forces NERV to come up with new battle plans with each angel. The only thing known to the lesser officials at NERV is that Angels have the same genetic makeup as humans (only, their blood is blue). The higher officials of NERV know more about the Angels, but they're not willing to give out any info.
