The word Destiny is so beautiful, yet it strikes so much fear in people's hearts. The definition of destiny is someone who is bound or directed to life; predetermined course of events. Why does this scare so many people? The reason why it scares so many people is because everyone wants to be free. No one wants to be bound and lead on to a life that's already figured for them.

Now, can you guess which I believe? Free life or fate? If you know me enough, then you know I believe in Fate. I believe in fate because I believe that life is a story, and each person is a main character of his or her own story; someone's just reading the book and as he reads the book, your life unfolds to him, a new adventure, a new thing pops out, but yet it's already written on paper.

Now, some people believe that Fate does exist, but it only takes you so far before you make your own decision. i can't go with that, but I do believe that people do have some "free will." Yeah, it sounds odd that I believe in fate and free will, but I'll talk about that soon. I'm a little iffy on if Fate takes you so far, usually it's one extreme to another. Like good or bad, hero or villain. I don't believe in a gray area, I believe in black and white because that's how the worlds' been. If you live in a black and white world, how can you know what gray is?

The whole gray area is not also nearly impossible, but also it doesn't explain anything. You go one extreme or another, like a yes or no question. Can pigs fly? Either you answer, "No, they don't have wings," Or you can answer, "yes, with help of a cannon." If you say maybe, how can you justify that? "They maybe can fly, with help from a cannon, but they can't fly by themselves." Then they CAN fly, and therefor the answer is yes.

NOw back to fate and the "Takes you only so far," there is either fate or "free will," none of that "maybe" crap. The whole "takes you only so far" fate is absurd because it's almost saying there's fate, but you have free will, again the "maybe" answer. ALso, if fate only takes you so far, then it's as good as saying "free will" because humans can take themselves that far without the help of fate if that's true.

Now on to my thought on a little free will. yes, I must sound like I'm contradicting myself, and yes, I am, but I believe people have enough will to fight against fate. Like playing a game and the level is way to hard, but you play it anyway, you know you're going to lose, but you can try. With enough trying, you can overcome that and procede to the next level. I apply this to fate and think if you try hard enough, then you can have your free will. Humans are going past their predetermined life right now, but it's still the same. With all respects, humans should be in the food chain being eaten by a whole mess of animals, but here we are, grown and eating everything else. How did humans do this? By willing themselves to overcome fate. It's still the same because humans are still animals, we still have animalistic instincts. We overcame fate, but still in its lines.

The best way I can describe fate as a book can be a linear book, like any book you read or one of those stupid "Your own adventures" book. The book gives you choices every page, and you make it, either proceding on or dying is part of the book. I hate those books, I think they suck and they can toss my salad, but this can apply to fate. Fate is still predetermined, like the story is already written in the book, but you get to choose your adventure, your own path. This is still fate, fate with options.

Fate is like the tide. To go against it is futile. You can try to go against the tide, and sometimes you can succeed. But trying to go against it during a huge wave, and you'll be sure to be hammered. You can choose, choosing can be apart of fate, if it allows. If you want to go to Mongolia, but your plain crashes, your boat sinks, your mother dies so youc an't go, then signs point "Don't Go." You can still chose your path (again like those stupid books) to go to Mongolia or stay home. It doesn't guarantee you survive, but it does guarantee a path and a choice.

Fate can be an intersection, and that's what I believe fat is. If you have an opinion, I'd like to hear it. Please email your opinion to mung@ridgenet.net. I'll post your opinion on fate on this page.
