One on One
Music & Lyrics: Hall Thanks to Ritz for C&C on this one. ^_^ This songfic is YAOI. You have been warned.
[Mitsui Hisashi walked home from another step to redeeming two lost years: another basketball practice session. After his "fall from grace" from being an MVP player back in junior high to basically nothing due to an injury, he wasted two years of his life excelling in being a juvenile delinquent instead of being a basketball player. Now, he is back to playing basketball for a while, accepted by his peers, be it from his delinquent days or his basketball life. However, there's one person who hasn't quite accepted his new self yet and someone that should be thanked for helping him snap out of his delinquency.]
I'm tired of playing on the team
[As he rounded a corner, he noticed someone walking several feet ahead. To anyone, that someone looked like just another bookish student walking home. To Mitsui, that someone was nearly his salvation. Rushing ahead to that person, Mitsui called out "Kogure!" Kogure cautiously turned around to see who called out to him. Their eyes met, and immediately, Mitsui felt a lot less tired.
"Aa, Mitsui! On your way home?"
"Yeah, but I was wondering if maybe we can go for a snack first or something?" With a smile and a nod, they headed off to a café. ]
Oh oh I can feel the magic of your touch
["It's great to have you with us on the team, Mitsui, we could definitely do so much better with your three-pointers, as well as Miyagi's exceptional skills," Kogure pleasantly said as he stirred his coffee.
"Thanks, I'm glad to be back," Mitsui replied "but can we not talk about the team right now?" As soon as he said those words, Kogure gazed up to Mitsui with his soulful eyes, questioning, as if glowing in the dimness of the isolated café booth. ]
One on one I wanna play that game tonight
["If it's about that time in the gym before you came back and you hit me hard enough to knock my glasses off, it's okay---"
"It's not okay," Mitsui found himself interrupting. "I hit you even though I knew you wouldn't fight back. That was low, even for a delinquent like me---"
"But you're not a delinquent anymore."
"But still, I'm sorry. I'm really, truly sorry. I just can't forgive myself for hitting.... For hitting someone I really, truly care about."
Kogure responded by simply placing his hand over Mitsui's, which was nervously clenched next to his coffee cup. After holding it for a while until it was relaxed, Kogure picked up Mitsui's hand and held it to his cheek. "If you 'really truly care' and the other person also 'really truly' cares about you in return, you should know you're forgiven, you should feel that you've been forgiven."
Mitsui looked like he was about to cry. He bent his head down and closed his eyes, allowing a few runaway tears to fall. "I feel you," he whispered as he gently caressed Kogure's face. ]
You can't tell me you don't miss me (girl) boy (my apologies to Daryl Hall)
[The two walked home from the café through the dimly lit streets side by side but in silence.
"I didn't know we lived in the same neighborhood, Mitsui."
"We don't. I'm just making sure you get home safely."
"I can take care of myself, you know."
"Just making sure no one jumps you because they saw you with me."
"Oh."
They continued walking for a few more blocks in silence.
"Mitsui?"
"Yes?"
"I don't think anyone we should worry about saw us together."
Mitsui stepped ahead of Kogure, stopped right in front of him and looked him in the eye. "I just want to walk you home. Is that so bad?"
Kogure simply smiled. "It's so great to have you back, Hisashi."
Mitsui's heart soared.]
One on one I wanna play that game tonight
[Finally, they reached Kogure's house. Before Kogure stepped up to his front porch and leaned against the door, facing Mitsui. Mitsui gathered his courage and placed a hand on Kogure's shoulder. Instinctively, Kogure looked up met Mitsui's gaze. Meanwhile, Mitsui tried his best not to lose his coherent thought processes as he once again gazed into Kogure's eyes. "Thanks for everything."
"What do you mean, Hisashi?"
"For helping me snap out of my stupidity and immaturity."
"Most of the credit actually goes to you," Kogure said as he placed an arm around Mitsui's waist.
Slowly, simultaneously, they leaned closer to each other for a light, sweet, short kiss that spoke volumes, the most important being Mitsui's own acceptance and forgiveness for his lost years.]
'Cause if it's really right there's nothing else
[Sunlight crept in through the blinds of the dorm room the way it would have in any other dorm room. On the bed, Mitsui propped his upper body into a semi-sitting up position with his elbow to gaze at Kogure's sleeping figure.
"He looks so peaceful when he's asleep... How does his mere presence keep me from going crazy here in college?" Mitsui thought to himself as he brushed a stray lock of hair off Kogure's forehead. Kogure snuggled in a bit closer to Mitsui, which urged Mitsui to lie back down to snuggle under the covers.
Quite a while later at 8 am on the dot, Kogure switched off the alarm clock before it even rang to wake up Mitsui by himself. This was a new tradition they had started since they moved in together during college, waking up early on a Saturday morning to spend some time alone with each other playing basketball for a few hours. With one hand, Kogure caressed Mitsui's chest while rubbing Mitsui's scar with the index finger of the other hand. "Wake up, sleepyhead."
Mitsui's eyes fluttered open as he moved to kiss Kogure's eyelids. "I love waking up to you..."]
I don't own the song, I don't own the series, I don't own the characters. I'm not making any money off this project, don't sue me. I don't have any money anyway.
