Purpose:
Charter of the department is to study the geology of the country in detail and to assess its resource potential. Its functions and responsibilities include geological, geophysical and geochemical mapping of the country on appropriate scales, basic and supplied research in earth sciences , exploration and assessment of internal resources, geotechnical and engineering geological studies and advice to the government on the matters relating with the development of mineral sector.
