Dragonball is a manga series that was created by Akira Toriyama (Dr. Slump) in 1984 and originally appeared in the Shuukan Shonen Jump weekly magazine. It is comprised of 48 volumes spanning two different series, Dragonball and DbZ, and it has been translated into many different languages and published all over the world. Dragonball is inspired by an ancient Chinese legend called Xiyouj/Hsi-yu chi or "Journey to the West" in English and many of the characters, names, and settings in Dragonball are based from this story. The Dragonball story focuses around a young boy with a tail named Goku and his friends' adventures to gather the seven magical dragonballs. Once all seven balls are gathered togethter, a great dragon appears and grants the wisher one wish. During their "quests" Goku and friends meet many people, some good who help them and some who will stop at nothing to get the dragonballs for themselves. Below are manga summaries that cover the first sixteen volumes, covering only the Dragonball half of the manga. It is seperated into three different sagas, the Pilaf saga, the Red Ribbon saga and the Piccolo Daimao saga.
