Stories are like recipes. The end product is always unique, as each person has it's own way to use ingredients to shape a story. At first glance, when I saw the title, Shin Slurpee Evangelion made me think about Tendo Akane's cooking. Suspicious. But sometime, Akane's cooking can be quite surprising. And surprised I was as I took a taste of Slurpee. Maybe it was cooked up by Kasumi after all (for the non Ranma 1/2 initiated, it means it looked suspicious, but was very good and enjoyable).
What is the recepe of this "Slurpee"? Mainly, it seems to be a blend of humor and light WAFF. If I had to compare, the first thing that comes to mind is Neon Genesis Evangellydonut (even if both stories are radically different). It's the same kind of light story (as not depressive) with jokes here and there. Although, Evangellydonut may be at times a bit more serious in the later chapters.
The story... One day, Ikari Shinji felt happy. Really happy. Now, since this is Shinji we're talking about, this means something is definitely out of the ordinary. And out of the ordinary it is as we soon learn the unbelievable truth: Ikari Shinji is in love (with a girl should we add for those yaoi amateurs out there). The rest of the story (so far anyway) mainly focus on our loverboy attempt to deal with his new condition... and the girl he's in love with. Of course, that's not all there is in this story. We have Angel battles! We have new EVAs and pilots! And let's not forget Touji's and Kensuke's sandwich war, Yan Can Cook cooking lessons (taken by Rei) and lot more stuff. And let's not forget the jokes...
Bad points for this fic? I tried to find some... but can't really, except maybe a overuse of songs by the characters. Unless you don't like the humor/parody EVA story type, you should like it. Like I said, it's a light, pleasant, WAFFy story. Even the ACC are acceptable, as those characters only mainly straighten the plot (in interacting mainly with Rei, Kensuke and Touji) and bring extra comic relief. This story seems to me like very well written, and the characterization is pretty good for what is mainly a humorous fic. There is some stretching here and there, but it's understandable, if not necessary.
Overall, I like Shin Slurpee Evangelion. A lot. I'd wish the author would hurry up with the next chapter. But I guess we selfish readers always wish that when it comes to great stories.
You want a good time? I recommend choosing a Slurpee ^_^
