Believe it or not, there is actually a pattern out there for a Sailor Moon costume. It's made by McCalls and if you are feeling craft-ish, then you can make your very own Sailor Saturn costume. Unfortunately, it comes only in children sizes. Those of us bigger children must know how to alter a pattern. All the accessories, such as the bow and bands for the gloves, can actually be used on a larger person.
The costume does look very nice when done though. I used it for my Halloween costume.
However, if you are not the sewing type, a navy skirt and white shirt should do. You can use the pattern to make the bows and glove bands, and the collar and stuff.
Essential to all Sailor Saturn costumes is the glaive. I used a few wrapping paper tubes taped together and black spray paint. Cut the blade of the glaive out of cardboard and cover it in aluminum foil. Voila, a Sailor Saturn costume.
Two words. Value Village. Everything you ever wanted to be a Sailor Senshi can be found there or at other seconhand stores. Find a green plaid skirt, and a maroon skirt. From the pattern for the Sailor fuku, use the collar in green for the collar of the uniform. Make a prety blue bow.
As everyone knows, accessories create the outfir. Black nylons are an absolute must. Use a fabric pen to draw a black star on the uniform.
How to dress in regular Senshi clothing. If you can call it regular. Once again, second hand stores come in very handy. To dress like Hotaru requires one thing, BLACK! Hotaru is nearly always seen in black or at the least purple.
Also, as an added bonus, stores with vintage clothing also offer a variety of Sailor Moon type dresses. Watch the show for a really long time and study the fashion. Next go to Value Village or a similar store and look at the vintage clothing. About half of he dresses could easily be found on Serena or Mina.
