Dancougar is a robot formed by the components of the Cyber-Beast Force.
GENERAL ROSS IGOR and
PROFESSOR KOTARO HAZUKI assembled this special military unit in order
to combat the ZORBADOS MUGE aliens
who wish to add the Earth to their growing empire.
The Cyber-Beast Force (or Jyusenkitai) is comprised of Masato Shikiba, Shinobu Fujiwara, Sara Yuki and Ryo Shiba.
SHINOBU FUJIWARA - the first member of the Cyber-Beast Force (CBF) and
pilots the Eagle fighter. He is six feet tall and hang glides as a hobby.
He has an explosive temper, which causes him to get into many scuffles.
Yet, he was
chosen as team leader because of the sheer strength of his willpower,
which is a crucial element in controlling the massive
SARA YUKI - She was the second member to enter the CBF, and pilots Land Cougar. She stands five foot eight and enjoys music and swimming. She has emotional ties to the earthling traitor SHAPIRO KEATS, which weaken as the series progresses.
MASATO SHIKIBU- pilot of the Land Liger; stands five feet nine. His
specialty is in the art of taming animals. A kid at
heart, Masato is LAURA SULLIVAN's best friend. First appears and joins
the CBF in episode 4.
RYO SHIBA - The fourth CBF recruit, his job is piloting the huge "Big Moth" or Mammoth. He is six foot two and is an expert in the martial arts. His philosophical ways serve as a counter to Shinobu's temper.
SHAPIRO KEATS - A former Wing Leader at the academy, the ambitious Shapiro defects to the Zorbados Muge aliens as his first step to conquer the universe. He composed the song "Harmony Love" for his fiancee, Sara. With his defection, however, the two fell apart.
The rest of the CBF include General Ross Igor, Professor Kotaro Hazuki,
Chris and Captain Geral of the transport team,
and the young girl Laura Sullivan. The Zorbados Muge Empire is ruled
by… Zorbados Muge. His right hand woman is the mysterious Luna, while Generals
Death Gaia, Gil Dorom and Helmut commandeer his armies.
The CBF is composed of four machines. The Eagle Fighter is a mechanical eagle which can assume "Aggressive Type" (a sort of firebird) mode and "Humanoid Change" mode. It stands 6.7 meters long and weighs 2.76 tons. It forms Dancougar's head. The 10.3 meter tall, 24.2 ton Land Liger converts from tank to Liger to Humanoid mode, as does the 10.1 meter, 21.3 ton Land Cougar although the Cougar transforms into a cougar, of course). These two form Dancougar's feet. The massive Big Moth, standing 18.6 meters and weighing 60 tons, follows the same pattern as the Cougar and Liger, and becomes Dancougar's main body. (Okay, I don't like the transformation myself, but the story, music, and characters make up for it and besides, the robot looks cool anyway.) The main principle of the multiple transformations, in my opinion, is that it represents the evolution to godhood. First are lifeless machines. Then, when the pilots activate the Beast-Instinct center in their mechs, they use their psychic energies to assume animal mode, where their basic instincts guide the machines. Next is humanoid mode. Finally, all four machines combine all four pilots' psychic energies into more than the sum of it's parts: as quoted from the TV series: "Go beyond beasts, beyond humans, become God's Warrior! The SUPER BESTIAL MACHINE GOD… DANCOUGAR!"
Dancougar requires the psychic energy of the four pilots. While this
is draining to the four, the results are spectacular.
Dancougar's sheer power and strength are more than enough to overwhelm
the more advanced technology of the Muge
Empire. In addition, Dancougar has his "Daigun" (Great Gun) with which
to blast the baddies.
