Japan's school system is based upon morals and Japanese traditions. Japanese are respectful because this would bring reproach onto themselves and their family. Japanese schools are very efficient. If America could learn from their system, we would also have as well set up schools.
Back to the subject, Japanese school bevaior is almost contradicting. Students are to be served but the teachers are to be respected. They are addressed as "sensei" (teacher). Hands are always raised and you never speak out of turn. In the town I was at, the students did not know their day-to-day schedule. I do not know if this also goes for all of Japan. Japanese students are very studious. Even though they do not have homework, they are very attentive while in school. Friends meet together after school and almost everyone has an after-school activity. Many of the Japanese ideals are present in school. In my classroom, boys sat in two rows on each side with the girls istting in a middle section. Boys and girls are in the same class (where applicable) but there is still "boys' territory" and "girls' territory." |
