Chapter 21 - Tenderness
Mai serves Kaieda tea. He tells her that he never meant to harm her or her father, and about the Wisdom Alliance and his suspicions that Kuju knows more than he does. Mai agrees to go with him on the condition that nothing will happen to the people who have protected her, or else - she shatters a vase with her mind.
The police have discovered Intetsu's borrowed motorbike and soon find Intetsu himself, arresting him on the roof. An order comes from the commissioner immediately after his arrest to release him.
An old lady, Mineo, leads Mai to her new room. Kaieda informs
his aide Kenmochi, that they won't be handing Mai over to the Wisdom Alliance!
Chapter 22 - Psychic Power Reaction, Zero
Intetsu returns to his apartment to find everyone roughed up from their 'interrogations' - and Madarao in his room! Madarao is disappointed to find Mai gone to Kaieda.
Mai is watching a replay of the events at Ant's Tower, with a headset on to measure her PK - but there's no reaction on the meters. Mai cries silently.
The Wisdom Alliance isn't happy with Kaieda, and decide to start a worldwide
boycott of Japan. Then news comes of a serious accident, in which
Turm Garten is involved.
Chapter 23 - Another Psychic Girl
A passenger plane explodes on take-off. The Wisdom Alliance determines that Turm Garten was responsible, blowing up the plane out of jealousy of a classmate. They decide to use her.
Madarao almost gets run over crossing the road. A friend of Intetsu offers to take him to Kaieda's place, where Mai is.
Mai is looking for Ron. Mineo tells her that he's been taken to
the laboratory. Mai is distraught.
Chapter 24 - Garten and Mai
Ron has been left alone in a room, but manages to get out. Ron was put there on Kaieda's orders. He wants to use Ron to measure Mai's powers, having failed in all other attempts. When they discover Ron missing, Kaieda orders Mai to be placed in the laboratory to search for Ron with her powers.
Madarao arrives at Kaieda's building and climbs to the roof using a grapnel shot from a bow.
Turm Garten arrives at the headquarters of the Wisdom alliance, and is shown the video of Mai at Ant's Tower. Mai's power was measured at 450 times the force of gravity, Turm's at 360. Turm complains that it's un unfair comparison, and that she's much stronger - and agrees to go to Tokyo to 'meet' Mai. She destroys the image of Mai.
Madarao finds Ron, then Kaieda - and shoots an arrow at him as revenge
for Kuju's death. Mai stops it just before it hits Kaieda's forehead.
Chapter 25 - Hope
Kaieda declares that Kuju is still alive. Madarao and Mai are shocked. Kaieda explains that Kuju's body has not been found, and that it's likely that someone else rescued him just as Intetsu rescued Mai. Kaieda tells them that the immediate concern is the Wisdom Alliance, and says that he will protect Mai from them. Mai wants to go to school to see her friends; Kaieda promises to arrange it.
Turm still isn't happy about Mai, and systematically destroys her room. The Wisdom Alliance are impressed.
One week later, Mai is on her way to school (in a limo!), and the Gartens
are arriving in Tokyo.
Chapter 26 - Garten's Arrival
The Gartens are walking through the airport. A couple of young girls rush past, helium balloons in hand, and knock Turm's handbag off her shoulder. Turm bursts their balloons and sets fire to their hair. Her father comments on the unfortunate accident.
Mai's friends tell her that she's a lot more mature than when they last saw her. Mai invites them back to the condo.
Kaieda knows about Turm's arrival, and orders his men to get a picture of her - and to prevent her from contacting Mai. The boycott of Japanese goods is still in force.
Mineo is walking Ron near the school when a car carrying Turm drives
past. Ron growls and runs off to Mai.
Chapter 27 - Prelude to the Confrontation
Mineo serves the girls tea. Kaieda stops by to say hello on his way to see Tsukiro. Tsukiro now has several scars - and an artificial arm.
Turm goes for a bike ride. Kaieda's men try to get a picture,
but Turm blows a hole through the photographer's head.
Chapter 28 - The Encounter
Kaieda speaks with the Chief Cabinet Secretary about Mai. Mai wants to wait for her father at home; Kaieda arranges for it.
One of the servants in the East German Ambassador's residence is working for the Wisdom Alliance. He tells Turm that no one has succeeded in capturing Mai without harming her. Turm declares that she can do it.
Mai is cooking dinner when Ron starts growling. Turm is leaning
against a street lamp under Mai's window.
Chapter 29 - The Face-Off
Kaieda's men surround Turm, but she kills one and seriously injures the others. Turm tells Mai telepathically that that was just a warning. If Mai would obey Turm, they could be good friends.
Kenmochi suggests terminating Turm Garten in order to protect Mai. They plan to get a photo of her at the Foreign Ministry's ball.
A message arrives for Mai, the messenger stating it was from her father.
Chapter 30 - A Voice From the Past
The message is for a meeting. They're suspicious, but Mai recognizes her father's voice when she phones him at the hotel. They drive to the hotel.
Turm leaves the Ambassador's residence. She destroys the escort
cars.
