Prison
“Man is born free, yet is everywhere in chains”
Why dost thou encourage the above claim?
Thy lips are but sealed: thus, so is thy heart.
Thou hast built a prison to hide from the dark.
However thine intention, I cannot adhere.
For, despite being ‘worthy’, it brings only tears.
Tears, idle tears! Quoth thee: “cast them away,”
I cannot: they return to me because of thy way.
Carpe diem! Seize the day! Forget about strife;
Our years are too few to complicate life.
Thy wrists grow tender as thy chains tighten.
This tenderness perchance is what love will heighten.
Wrists’ skin so soft, as thy hair and thine eyes,
Refute thee as a prisoner despite thy disguise.
Behind thy stone walls lies hope eternally,
Which I could share with thee, if we could break free.
