Info on how to make Holy Images

Many Thanks

Fist I need to thank my Buddhist holy image painting teacher, Chiang Hsio-han for teaching the finer points of painting these images. Actually I have only spent less than six months learning under him at one, two hour class per week, so he is not really responsible for what I have done to his art form. Further more, he taught me to paint with water colors on a special kind of paper just for this kind of painting; however I paint a scanned image on my laptop computer.

In class my paintings are the worst of the whole class, made up of mostly housewives who are over fifty. So Mr. Chiang was impressed when he had seen one of my computer paintings that was at least a hundred times better than any thing that I had painted on paper. In his painting style it is a must to keep the colors very pure so that the images have a glow to them. It may take up to twenty hours to finish just one painting and if there is just one smug in all that time then the painting is useless. On the computer it is almost impossible to make that kind of mistake and if you do, it is easy to fix.

Tools
Now to talk about the tools of my trade. I use a notebook (laptop) PC, Chicony Falcon with a 200 MHz Pentium processor, 80MB of Ram.  I do not use a desktop computer because the monitor is too powerful to spend long amounts of time in front of. The new notebook computer displays are as vivid as the desktops monitors but have a softer feel. Because they have a softer image it is more like reading off of paper, while a monitor is more like reading off a TV. But most important is that they have almost 0% radiation, can you say that about the PC monitors?

Next I have a pen mouse hooked up to my notebook PC. The old style mouse, invented over 30 years ago is just not up to controlling a paint brush. It is called a GOGOPen. Don't  you just love that name? Here the most important thing is that I have a pen that Touches a pad and a can draw with it.

Software
And finally the software that I am using to paint these holy images. I use Picture Publisher 5 from micrografx in Windows 95.

There you go, now all my secrets are out.
