Disclaimer: Rurouni Kenshin does not belong to me.All rights belong to Watsuki-san, Jump Comics, etc. I'm only writing this fanfic to still the creative urge inside my teeny heart. Please enjoy!!
Author's Notes: This story is totally out of whack with the actual storyline as I didn't finish the arc before I wrote this. But I liked the idea so I kept it. Hope this doesn't step on any toes. This fic gives away the end to the Kyoto Arc so if you don't like spoilers, I would quit reading now. I would also like to say that the idea for this fic and the title itself were thought of by me and was not copied. I've had trouble with this in the past so I thought I would clear anything up now. I would appreciate it if no one would copy me. Thanx. Please enjoy and all C&C is welcome at SailorUS7@aol.com. Thanx again for reading!!
Warnings: SPOILERS galore!! , major OOCness, we're talking MAJOR!!, slight death fic
The sky was ablaze as she felt the sword enter her body through her left shoulder. Pain seemed to blossom throughout her mind as she fell against her love's body. His arms came to surround her, a steadying force in her spinning and fading world.
Like in a dream, she heard the accusation of the red-haired Battousai. Her ears heard the accusation of betrayal. Yumi could not let her love be seen in a bed way by anyone. Her flagging life gathered itself one last time to explain why she had found happiness in her death. She had finally found a way to serve her Shishio-sama like the boy and Kamatari. She was able to help fight and not just serve as a care-giver afterwards.
Her words having taxed her beyond her life energy, her last actions would show her devotion to her beloved lord. She touched the hand that held her face for the final time. Black started to darken her vision as she turned her violet eyes to the bandaged face of her soulmate.
Her mind whispered her final words along with her lips, "P-Please win.... This battle.... Shishio-sama. Yumi's one step ahead... And I'll be waiting for you in hell...."

Shishio's mind was so settled on finishing Battousai, that he really paid little attention to Yumi's death. Yet deep down where his essence resided, he felt something break and shatter for all time. As the heat grew too much for his body to handle, his inner core took on an inner peace. His blood evaporated at an alarming rate as he fought his hated enemy and rival. When the heat finally consumed him, he gave a laugh at his enemies. Haji would make sure they didn't leave alive. Battousai looked more dead than alive anyway. He would win in the end. His red eyes turned to see one sight before he met his end in hell. he turned to see Yumi's peaceful sleep. When Shishio's soul left its earthly shell, directed the fire one last time to consume the two shells together.

Yumi awoke on a field of golden flowers and sunshine. She could feel a slight, cool breeze fly by her face. At first, she wondered if she had really died. Yet one look at her transparent hand confirmed her memories. She remembered vividly the pain of the sword thrust and the sense of overwhelming joy at helping her love. Yumi wondered where she was. This place definitely did not look like hell.
She started to wonder around her new surroundings, always staying in a field of golden flowers and sunshine. Yet when she would go made from her never-changing world, a flash of grayish light appeared on her horizon. She walked towards this phenomena, her curiosity overcoming her caution. When she approached, she saw a human figure within. A long ponytail could be seen on top of the male figure's head. He had a well-built figure that was slightly hidden in the shadows the light cast.
Slowly the light faded to reveal a young man asleep on the ground. Yumi approached him with care, no knowing who this individual was. Yet when she stood five feet away from the stranger's head, his eyes opened to reveal beautiful blood-red eyes staring back at her. Yumi gasped to see her Shishio-sama's eyes looking at her. She had thought she would never see those wonderful eyes again. yet she had expected to be in hell by now so what did she know, huh?
Without losing contact, Shishio rose to his feet. He remembered being burned from the inside out. He remembered his last sight was of Yumi's peaceful face before everything went black. Now he stood in a golden field with Yumi's beautiful figure before him. Her glorious eyes were wide in wonder, her lush lips agape. Shishio smiled gently as he looked upon the lovely creature that had really understood him. His legs carried him to her side. A little section of his mind reveled in the feeling of moving without the tug of burned flesh. Yet being ethereal might have something to do with that.
When Shishio reached Yumi's side, he placed his hands to cup her cheeks. A single tear started its trek down her cheek to rest on his thumb pad. Very gently, Shishio lowered his head to kiss away her single tear. His head backed away to reveal Yumi's eyes closed and her lips trembling slightly. His lips descended on hers for a long drawn-out kiss that sent them both to their own version of heaven.
