Back to Hikaru Utada Lyrics
First Love review

This is the debut Japanese album of 16-year-old Hikaru Utada, who is very
talented--she writes both her lyrics (with one minor exception) and music.
Hikki's sweet and soulful voice often resembles singer/actress Brandy, but
I think Hikki sounds better. The songs are mostly R&B, dance, and a slow
song. This is probably the best J-pop R&B album that I have ever heard, so
if you are into this type of music, you should pick up this CD up now!!!
1. Automatic-Album Edit--Her first single. Everyone loves
this song. Thankfully this version is almost the same as the
single, it's just slightly different towards the end.
2. Movin' On Without You--Her 2nd single. I didn't like this
song at first, but it grew on me. Sounds like club music. Great to
dance to.
3. In My Room--A slower paced R&B song. Kind of mellow, but I
like it.
4. First Love--A sweet, slow love song. This song is a single
and is the theme song of the Japanese TV drama Majo no Jouken
(Witch's Requirements).
5. Amai Wana~Paint It Black~--This is a funky dance song.
She borrows a line from the Rolling Stones' song "Paint it Black".
6. Time Will Tell--Coupling song of "Automatic". Cool medium-
paced R&B song. I love the line: "Kono nagai Runway kara aozora e
Take off!!".
7. Never Let Go--Kind of dreary R&B song that I sort of like now
since it was playing throughout the TV drama Majo no Jouken
(Witch's Requirements).
* KT-cha disagrees with me:
I personally think track seven on Utada Hikaru's CD is very good
and it's one of my favorites. Inspired by one of her favorite
R&B stars, Monica, Hikki borrows the background loop from one
of the ballads on Monica's "the Boy is Mine" cd.
8. B & C-Album Version--Short for "Bonnie & Clyde". I think
this is my favorite song, next to "Automatic". It's a cute & playful
R&B song. Coupling song of "Movin' On Without You". The album
version is pretty much the same as the original version, so that's
good.
9. Another Chance--Reminds me of 70's music. Pretty good.
10. Interlude--It's just a 16 second break from the music.
She's on the phone singing about her emotions: "Yorokobi, kanashimi,
kandou, setsunasa" while ananswering machine picks up the call.
11. Give Me A Reason--Slow paced R&B song. It's pretty good.
Has a nice guitar intro.
12. Automatic-Johnny Vicious Remix---This song is more
fast-paced than the original. Good dance song, but I like the
original better.
Rating 10 out of 10!!!
