Cubic U = Utada Hikaru.

Unlike First Love (excellent album, BTW) this album is VERY mellow
so I intended to give it a low rating. Listening to it several times (as
usual) the songs got better & I found myself humming along to them.

I have to point out that Cubic U was pretty young (probably 12 or 13) when
she made this album so her voice isn't as mature & strong in some songs as
it is in her First Love album. This is very noticeable when she duets
with Stanley "Jamal" Hampton, who totally upstages her at times. I wish
that there weren't so many duets with him (there are four) but I guess
it'd be funny if she sang his parts.

Also, if Cubic U sang the backup vocals by herself like on her First
Love album (gotta stop referring to that), I would've rated it better
because like Stanley, the backup singers just totally take over the songs
& you can't really hear Cubic U.

Overall, this album is not bad. If you have to get it, don't be stupid
like me & get it for $30+ (not including shipping). The cheapest I saw it
was for about $24.

   1. My Little Lover Boy--A mellow song, but one of the better
ones from this album. Her voice is kinda similar to Brandy's in
        this one.

   2. Lullaby--Sounds like old-school R&B. A duet with Stanley.
You can't really tell which is Cubic U until she sings alone.
Interesting lyrics coming from a 12-13 year old.

   3. How Ya Doin'--The best song from this album in my
opinion. Upbeat & catchy compared to the rest.

   4. I Don't Love You--Another duet with Stanley. Why doesn't
she just sing by herself? Kinda depressing & I don't like her
        voice in this one.

   5. Promise--A slow song with nice vocals. Kinda gospelish.
Reminds me of En Vogue's "Giving Him Something He Can Feel."

   6. Ticket 4 Two--A bit more upbeat than some of the earlier
songs (except for track 3). Not bad.

   7. Take a Little While--Kinda remiinds me of "B&C"'s cuteness
so I like this song a lot.

   8. 100 Reasons Why--This song is pretty good. A little
upbeat. I love her voice in this song.

   9. Work Things Out--A dreary & depressing reggae-like song.
I don't really like this one cause it drags.

  10. Close To You--A remake of the Carpenters' hit song. This
would've been a great song if Cubic U sang alone. Stanley again.
He and the backup singers totally drown poor Cubic U out. I mean,
who's CD is this anyway? If I'm not mistaken, it's supposed to be
        by Cubic U.

  11. Precious--Um, another sing-a-long with Stanley but it's
actually one of the better ones on the album. It's a nice song
and it has a "Give Me A Reason" kind of feel, but it's a little
        more upbeat.

  12. How Ya Doin' (Rap Version)--This song is good, but the
original is better. Features Saphyri "Phyre" Justiz as the rapper.
Why are there so many people upstaging Cubic U? I think it'd be
        better if she rapped herself.

Rating 5.5 out of 10!!!
